"December 7th is tomorrow, but every time I look at Pearl Harbor, it gives me chills.  My grandpa was on leave to get married to my grandma, but was assigned to the USS California.  I exist out of sheer luck..."

I had to say... glad you're here and good job. Thanks to your grandpa/grandma . Enough thanks cannot be given to those that have gone before and those present.

Early Merry and Safe Christmas to you and your family. Cheers to about 60 or so more.

On December 7th 1941 the U.S. Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii awoke to a surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy.  At, 7:53a.m. the first wave of Japanese planes attacked and by 8:55 a.m. the second wave of Japanese planes arrived which left 2,403 casualties, 188 destroyed planes, and 8 damaged battleships plus the destroyed U.S.S. Arizona. U.S. government sources had received a encoded message from the Japanese government which heeded a warning of an attack in the coming hours.  The U.S.  couldn't decode the message in time to give a proper warning to the U.S. citizens and forces.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor Winston Churchill announced to the U.S.. that British colonies in southeast Asia had been attacked by Japan. He also said that Britain would declare war on Japan the following day.  President Franklin D. Roosevelt went before congress the next day and demanded that the United States declare war on Japan. On Monday December 8th ,1941 F. D. Roosevelt signed the declaration of war granted by Congress and America went to war. On Tuesday December 9th, 1941 Japan joined the Axis Forces which consisted of Germany and Italy.   So it began America's involvement in World War II.

Below is a TACRECCE photo taken during the attack and used for BDA.
