At Friday's press conference in Fayetteville.  Collen served under Gary Blair here at Arkansas before making a few stops (some rather bizarre events in between), and for the last three years guiding Louisville to the NCAA Tournament.

Maybe he'll hire Michelle Marciniak as his assistant.
Pts/Game: 122nd
Rebounds/Game: 208th
Assists/Game:  240th
FG%:  173rd

Is this a good move for us?

Is this a good hire? I don't know anything about him. What are your oppinions on him?

Great choice.  Maybe our girls can win some SEC games now.

Go Ladybacks.   :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback:

A good move would be having the Lady Backs play in Barnhill...easier to sell out or at least make look more full for a game...more intimate setting and more intimidating...great tradition...more profitable to run for a sport that doesn't attract many fans.

Mark Lericos

It appears to be a stellar hire. Collen is a proven winner, I just read he's already 11th on the all-time winningest list in terms of winning percentage. Not bad for just 8 seasons as a head man.  He revamped Louisville and went to 3 straight NCAA Tournaments, last year they were 27-8.

Has ties to Arkansas, working under Blair. And the Ladybacks need someone to elevate the talent to compete with the big boys (or girls as it would be) in the SEC.  Getting drubbed by 40 to Tennessee, LSU and Georgia is downright painful to report. I almost feel bad running those scores sometimes.  8)

That's a nice resume indeed.  Thanks for the profile of Collen.

he needs to recruit stricklen from morrilton hard. shes the number 3 forward in the nation.

TMc

He is an excellent hire.., although I am surprised Bev Lewis made this one.., but she made the right choice. This guy can recruit and coach.

Sao Ming

Hognoxious Jr. has to be proud right about now.

Pig_Lebowski

Uhhhh he doesnt fit the "criteria" for Bev Lewis.

Philip Seaton

Well Lewis probably knows that she could be next if she doesn't make a good hire. He sounds like a good one!

The way things are going, the men's team will have to play there to make it look full and to cut a profit.
Life is short.  Act accordingly.

Didnt I say this yesterday?? ;)

I wouldn't call it a stellar hire, but it's a good hire.

I still think Joe Foley at least deserved the respect of an interview.

My only problem is that he is a "cousin" to Mike Markuson who coaches for Nutt at Arkansas.  Hopefully he won't be so.............

Just kidding.  The picture on the Louisville bio makes him look a little like Markuson.

yes it seems like a wise move but they chose not too.. didnt want to be considered "second best". Also at that time, Walton was completely sold out for mens games, a lot of people went to ladyback games just so they could experience walton arena.  sure would seem to make a difference though in a smaller setting

FIRE TOM COLLEN ! !

Congrats on being the first person off of the bandwagon :)

When the time comes to fire Collen (and it will, as he's a college coach), you can proudly say:

"I called for Collen to be gone before anyone else!"
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

jdhoover

I think this is a great choice.  Read the ADG on Thursday to know more about him.  Esp his recruiting classes where he was the head recruiter when he was an assistant and his head coaching jobs.

GHG.
Don't mistake my support of the Razorbacks and their coaches with the acceptance of mediocrity.

This is a good choice only if Joe Foley turned down the job.  How could you not offer him the job?

HeathWimp

Remember how they passed out Heath bars at The Heath Bar's press conference?  Maybe they will have Tom Collins for Tom Collens presser...Lord knows we could use a drink right now.
11/19/2023:  Keeping my original semi-prophetic, apocalyptic signature below.  We continue to regret passing on Norvell, who is in the running for the Playoffs.  We continue regret passing on Kiffin, who is eyeing a New Years 6 game.  Heck, we regret passing on Drinkwitz (he may be a dork, but he will have his team in a New Years 6 game after they truck us on Black Friday).

Meanwhile, Sam is drinking Pittman, wondering if he has the leverage to re-hire Enos, Sexton is doing the triple Lindy into his Olympic-size pool full of cash, and thousands of hog fans are planning to dress up as empty seats for next year's Halloween game.

11/25/2018:  My original "Chad Morris" signature is below.  I'm modifying my view as follows:  We will continue to regret passing on Norvell and Kiffin.   After 3 years, when Morris is 10-26, we are going to be saying "What were we thinking?  Even Bert was better than this!"

I think this is s good hire.  He seems to be a proven recruiter.  He had the Big East player of the year last year.

His primary goal should be to get Shamika Stickland from Morrilton.   I think he will be an excellent recruiter, not only instate, but on a national scale as well.  If you want to play great ball the SEC is the place to do it.  We also have the academic and athletic facilities that are top notch.

I just hope he has us competing in the SEC when NLRhosts the tourney again in 2009.

I wanted the OA to make a run at Dawn Staley of Temple.  That would have been a hire of big proportions.  She's a great coach, but oh well.

Too bad, we are not hiring in the Louisville men's basketball coch.

jhudson84

He should definetley get started off well.  This is the best few classes Arkansas basketball has seen in quite some time.  He needs to be sure to keep Zachariason (CAC), Arnold (Northside), Richardson (Mtn. Home).  The you HAVE TO get Strickland, shes a franchise player.  There is also a sophomore at Shiloh who is going to be a GREAT player, and already has a few D-1 offers.

As you probably already know, she's an assistant at South Carolina, but the reason I brought her name up is the fact that she was the strength and conditioning coach under Collen at Louisville just a few seasons ago.

I'll be enrolling at the UA year after next, and oh what I wouldn't do to see Marciniak's gorgeous smile in BWA.  And yes, she was an incredibly intense, entertaining player during her time on the court at Tennessee.  The Lady Backs would do well to learn a few things from her in that facet of the game.

Hogs hired a mixed drink to coach the ladybacks WOW ! ;)

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.
