Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin says his staff is "not a high-pressure recruiting unit" – he explains that (cont) http://tl.gd/n_1so94n3

Quote"We're looking for guys who are great team guys, guys who want to be at Texas A&M, guys who've expressed an interest in being here, that really understand what we want to do.

"We're not a high-pressure recruiting unit. We've got guys who come in here and take a look at us and understand what we're about. Because of that we don't have a lot of de-commitments. We might have one or two a year. We don't have five or six guys who are committed to us, and just leav

Recapping Texas A&M's national signing day http://es.pn/240XGtF

QuoteBiggest need heading into signing day: Quarterback. Because of the departures the Aggies had at the position in December, when Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray transferred out of the program in successive weeks, Texas A&M had to have a quarterback in the signing class. Even though they already landed a graduate transfer in January (former Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight), it was imperative to get a high school quarterback in the class because the top two quarterbacks on the roster are a senior (Knight) and a junior (Jake Hubenak). For depth now and competition later (the Aggies already have a 2017 quarterback commitment in Tate Martell), getting another signal-caller was a must.

The Aggies landed a solid passer in four-star prospect Nick Starkel. Formerly committed to Oklahoma State, Starkel reopened his recruitment late in the process and eventually gave his verbal commitment to the Aggies on Jan. 21. Ranked the No. 18 pocket passer in the country, Starkel is a likely redshirt candidate in his first season. Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin alluded to the fact that Starkel will need to add some bulk to his 6-foot-4 frame (he's listed at 185 pounds), and with two upperclassmen on the depth chart, he won't be needed right away barring injury. An in-state product from Denton, Texas, Starkel was one of 18 quarterbacks nationally to make it to the Elite 11 finals last summer.

A&M loses commits over WR coach Aaron Moorehead's tweets

QuoteShortly after the Aggies lost their top recruit in quarterback Tate Martell, Moorehead went on a rant about loyalty, which was a not-so-subtle shot at the former commit.

"I feel sorry for people who never understand loyalty," Moorehead tweeted minutes after Martell announced his de-commitment. "I can't really even vibe with you. At the end of the day, trust is 100 (percent) and everything else is BS."

After more questionable tweets, Texas A&M wide receiver commit Mannie Netherly announced that he was de-committing from the program.

"After tonight, I see what kind of person my "future coach" is and I myself don't want to play for someone like that, so without further ado, I would like to announce that I am de-committing from Texas A&M," Netherly tweeted.

The hits continued for the Aggies.

Five-star wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey took to Twitter to announce he was done with Texas A&M, too.  He will no longer consider the school.

"I would like to say thank you to TAMU and fans but due to some tweets subtweeted towards my brother, I will no longer be looking at A&M," Lindsey tweeted.

Frankly Aggies should be happy the 5-10 Tate Martell backed off his pledge now. Gives A&M time to tab larger, more SEC suitable QB.

QuoteMannie Netherly had enough.

The Crosby, Texas four-star receiver got frustrated seeing tweets from Texas A&M coach Aaron Moorehead about loyalty.

The tweets came not long after the nation's top dual-threat quarterback, Tate Martell, decommitted from Texas A&M.

So around midnight, the 6-foot-2, 183-pound Netherly announced his decommitment.

"After tonight, I see what kind of person my 'future coach' is and I myself don't want to play for someone like that," Netherly tweeted.

This is relevant for Alabama and Auburn because both schools have offered and are pursuing the talented receiver. Netherly actually visited Alabama unofficially in April and the Crimson Tide coaches could sign four receivers in this class.

Coaches and athletes and sportswriters need Uber for Twitter, especially at night. 'Gee, I don't know if that tweet is a good idea, Champ.'

Thing is, people who've grinded for everything they've got agree w/ Aaron Moorehead, an ultimate grinder. But passion can't grab the wheel.

Quoteate Martell, the No. 1-rated dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2017, de-committed from Texas A&M Wednesday night. The decision, according to Martell's father Al, had a lot to do with a communication breakdown between the Martell's and new Aggies offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, who was hired from the same position at UCLA in January.

"It was different with Mazzone with the whole communication," Al Martell told Rivals' Adam Gorney. "Mazzone had been there two weeks for our visit in January, he had been there maybe all of 10 days, so I get it. If the guy didn't want to talk a whole lot, he's still feeling out his job and his co-workers and his staff and where he fits in.

"I get that but when you go out a month later, for two days on that trip, didn't talk to him once and then when we were there in March for their scrimmage, again, we were there for four days and not once did Mazzone ever talk, and I was five feet from him. Not a handshake, not anything."

In addition to the communication issue, there was also a concern over the Aggies offering two other quarterbacks. Class of 2017 four-star quarterbacks Jack Sears and Ryan Kelley recently picked up offers from Texas A&M, which worried Al Martell about his 5-foot-11 son's favor with Mazzone.

That's the short answer.

QuoteTexas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin has disciplined WR coach Aaron Moorehead for his tweets:
Sumlin: "Last week, one of our assistant coaches, Aaron Moorehead, abused the privilege of social media and the result reflected poorly on Aaron, on our football program and on Texas A&M. He has apologized publicly and privately for his actions and I am confident that he understands the expectations moving forward.
"However, there are consequences for actions and Aaron has been disciplined and the details will remain private. We will use this as a learning tool for all of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and we are now moving forward as a program."

QuoteBears currently have six verbal commitments, five of which date back to the middle of 2015. All six players also hold offers from A&M. Reactions from some of those recruits were shared on Twitter shortly after news broke.

Kellen Mond, the dual-threat quarterback out of Bradenton, Florida, currently holds offers from Ohio State, Texas A&M and 15 other schools.

Other four-star athletes currently pledged to Baylor include wide receiver Hezekiah Jones and tight end Kedrick James. James has been to College Station on multiple occasions...

Jalen Pitre and Donovan Stiner are both safeties committed to the Bears in 2017, while 6-foot-6 Jayden Peevy rounds out the list as a three-star defensive tackle.
