Hilltoppers have just over three weeks before the spring signing period begins April 13.

With scholarships already available and the status of the three suspended players in question, that recruiting window will be of great importance to the next coach.

Dennis Felton, assistant coach, Tulsa – Coached WKU from 1998-2003, leading the Hilltoppers to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2001-03.

John Pelphrey, TV analyst – Paintsville native and former Kentucky star was most recently an assistant at Florida under Billy Donovan. Had head coaching stints at Arkansas and South Alabama.

Sean Miller sent a strong message on Tuesday when he tweeted that he has no interest in leaving Arizona and returning to his alma mater.

It also signaled that the Panthers' administration may have to be a little more realistic in their potential targets to replace Jamie Dixon.

Sean Miller said no. Dayton's Archie Miller will also likely say no, sources told CBS Sports.

Scarblog: After Stanford made it official that Haase will be the 18th head coach in school history, after the Cardinal made him an offer he couldn't refuse, I asked the fifth coach in UAB history how hard it would be to say goodbye.

"Brutal," Haase said. "It's going to be hard leaving here in a lot of different ways."

Haase isn't just leaving a job he did and did well for the last four years. He's leaving a home. He's leaving a community where he walked his kids to school and his wife helped coach T-ball.

Scarblog: Two words for Mark Ingram as he starts his search to find a new basketball coach: Chuck Person.

One of the best basketball players this state's ever produced has the right stuff to become one of its best coaches. Imagine the impact he could make as a head coach in the state's largest city at a program with a history of success.

All Person needs is the right opportunity, and UAB could be the right place at the right time for Auburn's career scoring leader and associate head coach.

Consider the timing.

Four years ago, when Jerod Haase took the UAB job, Anthony Grant was at Alabama, Tony Barbee at Auburn. To be polite, Haase wasn't facing the stiffest competition in his own back yard.

The next UAB coach has to compete with Avery Johnson at Alabama and Bruce Pearl at Auburn.

Who's the stature, pedigree and name recognition to win some of those battles with Pearl and Johnson? How about a man who coached with Pearl at Auburn and played with Johnson with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs? How about a man who could match Pearl as a recruiter and would not take a back seat to Johnson in terms of NBA connections?

Scarblog: Mark Ingram has begun to make initial contact with potential candidates to become the next basketball coach, including Auburn associate head coach Chuck Person.

People familiar with the search say there is mutual interest between UAB and Person.

Ingram is searching for the sixth head coach in UAB history since Stanford made it official Friday that it has hired Jerod Haase away from the Blazers.

Of the five head coaches in UAB history, only Gene Bartow and Mike Davis arrived on the Southside with head coaching experience. Murry Bartow, Mike Anderson and Haase had been career assistants, although Anderson had spent time as the interim head coach at Arkansas.

Along with Person, a number of other high-profile Power-5 conference assistants have expressed interest in the UAB job. The Blazers will lose only one senior...

Scarblog: Ask any UAB fan to choose his or her favorite to become the school's next basketball coach. Most answers seem to fall into one of two categories.

    Rob Ehsan; or ...
    Anyone but.

The "anyone but" category seems to be split into two subcategories.

    Anyone but someone associated with Alabama or Auburn; or ...
    Anyone but someone associated with the SEC.

Letting those bad feelings extend to the entire SEC is understandable on a gut level. UAB lives in the SEC's shadow. It just does. Always has and probably always will.

It doesn't matter if UAB has a better basketball program than Alabama or Auburn or any number of SEC schools at a given time. It's simply a matter of math and history. There are two SEC programs in Alabama, and people in this state started growing attached to them long before UAB was born.

The most successful UAB head coach since Gene Bartow spent a lot of years as a top assistant at Arkansas, but Mike Anderson's SEC roots didn't prevent him from sharing a C-USA title or reaching three straight NCAA Tournaments or beating No. 1 seed Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16.

The right coach can come from a lot of different places. Even from the evil empire known as the SEC.
