Yes, the small/"no name" schools we played this year are good teams that have a shot at winning their conference and making the tourney, but we didn't play any P5 schools worth a darn this year.  Minnesota, a good team but still not sure they're a tourney team, beat us soundly.  We beat Texas which is always great, but they suck this year.

And how are we supposed to know that Texas would suck this year? Do you remember when that game was scheduled?
My girl told me to whisper something sexy in her ear...so I leaned in and said....Dominic Fletcher.

It would be nice to start having a schedule like Kentucky. We might get owned a few games, but it would be far better for recruiting playing the big boys and it would have us ready for the SEC. They played 5 teams from the p5 conferences. North Carolina, Michigan State, Louisville, Arizona State, and North Carolina.

Disagree.  The schedule this year was perfect for the fact that the 7 newcomers made for an unknown, with teams being scheduled at a time when they were showing themselves to be very good tests (including directional schools that made waves in the post season the last couple of years) without being certain defeat (@UCLA, @NC or the like).  I think with the program at a get-over-the-hump juncture, it needs Ws.  Turns out, it worked out perfectly to this point between scheduling quality and wins.  Going into conference play with a Top20 RPI would not have been bested by a bunch of losses to really good teams on the road, and since the teams scheduled were of decent to good quality, AND the Hogs won...they're sitting at a tremendous #19 RPI going into conference play.  Given that, THERE IS NOT ONE THING to be complaining about, unless you were planning to dress up in a Wonder Woman outfit for a game in hopes of getting on national TV on a Sunday afternoon.  In other words, outside of some personal motive that I couldn't imagine the nature of, I don't see how one can argue (especially as much as folks have) that the non-conference scheduling situation could have been much better.  They're a Top20 RPI team going into conference!   Granted, it could all fall apart from here, but I did not predict better than this pre-season (thought they'd lose at MN and at TX at least).  I will say, I believe that knowing what he has coming in, MA and UA will schedule a few biggies in the next couple of seasons.  MA knows we will have showcase type players from 2017-2020 at least, and they will be showcased.

Our schedule actually isn't that weak though.
Ideal schedule for this team.  Got spanked, matured/learned from it and went on a nice little run.  A good season is there for the taking.

well said, now the real fun begins. here is to us going at least 12-6 in the conference.
this game with Fla. is huge for us, win it and we got a good shot at going undefeated at home.

Bracketologist for NBC Sports and NBCSports.com (College Basketball Talk) projects Hogs as a 9-seed in Tulsa.
It feels good that our team is playing to stay in the tourney versus trying to play our way in.  I'm proud of this team. They have struggled at times(much less than last year) but they play hard every game and I can support a team win/loss that gives it all they have.

I hear ya and for the most part, I agree, but I just keep coming back to the Minnesota loss. That was a chance to show the pundits that this year's team is different than other Mike Anderson teams that pad their schedules with tons of home games against sub par competition, but the Hogs could not pull it off.  But then they COULD have played the Gophers tough and lost a tough hard fought inter-conference(Big 10 v SEC) matchup, but they got blown out and it was never close.

I am proud of the TEX win but I think we all see that TEX is a young young team with tons of talent that just wasnt ready to win yet.  Minnesota was the chance and they did not even come close.

I remember years ago (1986-1987) when Nolan was trying to get his program established at Ark and he was struggling and folks were wondering if he was a good fit for UA and then Ark played #6 Kansas and beat them something like 103-86 or thereabouts and everyone took notice.  Nolan finished that season 19-14 and played ArkState in the NIT and after that year went on to tremendous success for many years.  Mike needs something like that- a signature win.  He needs to go into a hard place to play and take a game and show that his program is on the rise.  I was hoping MIN would be that win. Now, I guess it will have to come in SEC play maybe or next year.  We will see.

HoopS

Funny but I remember folks not thinking Minn was all that good before we played them. Had we beat them it would have counted about as much as beating Clemson or Tex Tech. It would not have been any kind of defining win. The only real chance for that is at Kentucky. Maybe if OSU keeps winning and is highly ranked, them. But all a win at Minn would have done is knock them way down the ranks and off the radar and the win would probably be criticized by our own as not being a real road test.

I am always ready for Hog Ball!

The football season has no bearing on my excitement for basketball season to begin.

I know I'm in the minority, but I rank Hog basketball above Hog football every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Has a lot to do with the era in which I grew up, but for me personally there is just nothing better than watching the Hogs run up and down the court!
Woo Pig Sooiee!  Can't wait for the season to tip off.  I'm hoping for a much more competitive team this season.

Need to go up (or down) to avoid the #1 seed in round 2.

Whatever.  Just need to get the Hell in and get the feet wet again!  We'll worry about how far we should advance if Gafford is the upgrade over Moses that I personally think he will be.  Right now these guys just need to get themselves in it...frickin' 16 seed, just whatever.

I would actually love to play Villanova in the second round. They are the most brittle #1 team I've seen in a while.  I highly doubt they come close to repeating.

Updated ESPN  bracketology  has Arkansas as a 9 seed.

Lets hope that changes, if not you are looking at a 1 seed in rnd 2.

it will but .. when playing the 8th seed.. #1's lose on average, one a year in the 2nd round... a bit less, but close.. maybe we'd be the one...

I think it will change too. Either they win most of their remaining games and move up to a 7, maybe even a 6, or they drop 3 or 4 and do not make it at all. Lets hope its the former.

agree.. not much room for in between... but I think that 5 is the max loss, as long as one is in the SECT..

I keep hearing people bashing CMA because some dumbarse named Joe Palms who ive never even heard of predicts us out of the tournament. I will stick with Joe Lunardi who is a national institute and usually spot on has us currently in I will keep listening to Luanardi as opposed to that noname Palm

I was thinking the same. Joe Lunardi has been doing this for a while and is used to predict brackets for ESPN. Im rolling with Lunardi

Seeds I do not want to be...

8 or 9

Depends who we draw. I'd be okay with a Baylor, Florida State, or Gonzaga if they end up a 1 vs. our 8/9.

Yep. It is absolutely the worst at large bid spot to have

Eh.  5 seeds are probably worse--  12 seeds are generally given to the best small conference teams, meaning you get the best possible bad seed team to play;   if you win that, you likely get a legit Top 15 type team in your 2nd game, then a Top 4 team in the next game.

For contrast,  an 8 usually gets a second tier mid major or underperforming major conference team,  then a top 4 team,  then a Top 15 type team;   you are more likely to have two wins in the 8/9 seed scenario, before getting bounced by the second quality team you face.

Still a 9 seed v. Dayton

A first round game against Dayton in Tulsa with a likely second round match up with Baylor?? I'd take that in a New York minute because that's a short drive from the U of A campus.

aint buying it, no 12-9 SEC team gonna make it in the tourney. Tennessee gonna have to win out.

The SEC just split the B12-SEC challenge--  its never done as well before as it did this year.  The conference RPI is better, as well.

This is much closer to a 5 bid league, than a 3 bid league.
