I have to tell you guys what happened at the Hog baseball game on Friday.  I was out of town and could not go to the game so my wife, her dad and brother went to the game.  You know in the 9th inning everyone stands up especially with the come back we had going, so they were standing and this guy behind them yelled SIT DOWN, they thought he was not talking to them then heard it again SIT DOWN.   My wife's brother turned around and looked at him and he said YA YOU SIT DOWN A$$HOLE.  My wife then sat down, but her brother did not, then the guy taps on my wifes dad shoulder and asked if that was his son and he said yes and he goes tell him to sit down her dad said no.  Obviously that last thing you want to go is listen to some jerk behind you.
A couple of things I left out, we sit in row 111 very front row, those are normally reserved for family, but we have had those tickets for years and pay enough for them.  We sit right by several parents that are very nice, one of the moms said she would talk to her son and see what he thought.  I just can't decide what I want to do.  I know they can check to see who was in those seats.  I have thought about sending an email to Dave Van Horn, because to be honest I pay $1500 a year for those tickets and I can do whatever I want in those seats.  By the way my wife talked to an usher on Saturday and he said those are our seats and we can stand whenever you want.  Basically I am just wondering what you guys think I should do??  I am going to the game tonight and hoping this guy is there.

pimphog

I would tell the guy to "Go to Hell!".....plain and simple.........

cmakrzrbak

Nothing you can really do but be an [CENSORED] back.  I would've to them to piss off, but thats just me.  Standing is a part of sports.

I have had the same thing happen at a football game.  That is the one thing you do not say to someone at a game is sit down.  After a couple of times I just tell them to standup.  If they keep insisting then I really start getting rude.  I hate cussing hog fans but it happens.  And if someone were to call me an ahole because I was standing, I think I would knock their worthless a**out right there in front of everybody.  That is something I do not put up with is a worthless fan telling me what my business is at a game.

For your sake I hope the guy is their so you can give them a piece of mind.

heathshogs

I would not try to start anything. Just cheer as you normally do and stand whenever you feel like it. If he complains again esplain just as the usher did this is you're seat and yo can stand whenver you want to. Heaven forbid you try supporting our team.  If the usher is on yor side, the guy has little he can actually do about it short of actually starting something. JUSt remain calm and don't let him bother you.

Well you can't "do whatever you want" but you can stand up for the last out or the comeback. That's not unreasonable.

brooks74

Next time he hollers at you, all of you drop your pants and moon him!  ;)

HighonSwine

Oh yea, and if he is their, just Stand up the whole time.  Make sure you are the seat right in front of him.  Be loud and just stand up.  If he ask to sit down, just say I sit down all day at my job so I have to stand all evening after work to compensate.

TuckFexas

He has the right to stand up just as you have the right to sit down. If the idiot can't stand up for a 9th inning comeback, he needs to sell/give his tickets to someone who is a fan. Stand up again, call the Hogs and if he says anything again....tell him to go to hell.

That sucks. I would tell the idiot behind you to STFU...you and your family paid good $$ for those seats and you're perfectly within your right to stand up the entire game if you want to.

However, I wouldn't go e-mailing Dave Van Horn about it. Policing fan behavior is not his responsibility.

See this is what we refer to as Networking. You should attend a few tailgates. At these tailgates you get to know other Hogvillians. We Hogvillians have these little cell-phone thingys. We can find each other at the baseball game. I'm sure if you find guys the size of myself , Tuck , Hogapalooza etc. Your troubles will go away quickly.

For the non-agressive sorts... most of us are connected enough to at least "pull" an usher to help you out. Heck even our resident 14 year old's dad is a cop that works most of the games.

As far as standing at a game goes ... It's his right to sit, yours to stand. If he can't see over you or your cheering gets on his nerves maybe he isn't much of a fan to begin with.

I myself tire quickly of the " social fan " that is generaly becoming the norm for Fayetteville.

Old people yell like that at Football games and it pisses me off.   I saw a guy standing up and just enjoying the game and some old guy starts telling him to sit down, he can't see the game.   The guy then says, I paid for a ticket just like you did and I choose to stand.  So the old guy went to get the cop and the cop escorted the guy that was standing, out of the stadium.   I couldn't believe it!!!  I would have been pissed if that was me
I have 10 to 12 points to make per game.

Scout Team Defense

That's one of the worst things a fan can do, telling another fan to sit down.  If the are cursing or drunk, that is one thing.  But if they are being pationate about the game and cheering their team on, I would NEVER tell someone to sit down.  I feel this way for any and all fans.  If an opponent's fan is sitting in front of me and they've paid their hard earned $$ for that seat I think they've got the right to do whatever the heck they want.

This has happened to me several times and I usually just continue on with what I'm doing.  I'm never drunk and never curse so in my opinion I'm never in the wrong.

What section was this in.  That is just terrible on the cops part.  I would have made sure the whole University knew about what happened if that would have been me.  There would have been a big stink over that.  Get thrown out for standing is ridiculous.

Similar thing happened to me at an Ole Miss game in Oxford.

I was sitting in the middle of Arkansas fans, and this lone Ole Miss fan was sitting behind me. I stood up to cheer when the football team did something or other in the beginning of the first quarter, and the guy told me to sit down. I turned around and said I was just standing to cheer and that we are at a football game. Then the next time I stood up, he did it again. So I just continued to stand and didn't sit down.

The guy left at halftime and never came back.

First of all , I'd blame HDN,  I mean we all KNOW that everything bad that happens in fayettville is his fault. Second of all, just ignore the [CENSORED] bag; except to make it clear to him that if he touches your wife in any way shape or form again you will end his life. Long story short, that guy needs to grow up or get the Frank out. GHG

After reading all these posts I begin to wonder if some of the anger directed towards Nutt is not spilling over.
We have had discussions about standing at games before, and I would agree with the original poster, during a comeback its proper to stand and yell until your are so hoarse you feel like a horse.
However I dont think it is right to stand the whole game, I for one have bad knees and i cant stand for long periods, nor can I sit for long periods with my knees bent.
I dont like feeling as if I am a nusiance either, so if the people around me are siting and I can see clearly I will sit. I can yell just as loud sitting as standing.
But when we do something great, or are marching down the field, or the D is making a stand and its time to stand and scream, I try to get those around me involved. I'll look making eye contact screaming a war whoop, high five them, whatever it takes. Something about acting crazy that is contagious. You might be surprised to find these people complaing will high five you back and scream right with you.
You catch more with sugar then vinegar, so dont be so quick to reach for anger or smart a** replys, instead, give em a woo pig soiie and try to get them into the flow. if you succeed, then you hav gotten another fan to pull his load, and if you fail, well then you will still be the better for not stooping to thier level, and maybe others around seeing your efforts will join your side and stand and yell
Just a little food for thought

I hope you never sit behind me. Lord you'll never see any of the game. Get you a wheelchair and you can sit right down front.

Or maybe some of your high-class friends that sit around you could stop selling their tix out front and you won't get the working class stiff like me that finds it a priveledge to be at the game.

Yes sir, good luck sitting me down. I hope you enjoy the view of my arse crack ...

I draw the line at drunk and obnoxious  but other than that I hate fans that feel like they need to police other fans........ for instance last year at the vandy game when the refs made  such suck calls and everyone was booing, including me, and I am a good booer, this lady in front of me who i had never seen before even thou i have sat there for years, just turns around and stares at me, like it is a library and i am bothering people....so I just stare back until she turns around.........what's the purpose in that, I mean if i was booing our players or nutt ok,maybe, but the refs are fair game and why someone thinks they need to be ref police is beyond me........at least her husband or boyfriend had enough sense not to get involved....they were below me I figure i got the advantage on anyone below me, well unless its mike tyson or a real bad a**..........

Working class? What makes you think I am not working class?
FYI, I have spent the better part of the last 25 years walking on concrete floors in factories, and anyone who has spent atleast 20 years doing know what I am talking about when i say it wears on your body.
You sir maybe need to get out of the class room or ofice and try a job at lowest wrung of the ladder. It might give you a new appreication for others.

Dude, take a chill pill and reread, he called HIMSELF working class.

it was his remark about high class friends. I wish I had high clss friends, then I would be in an office instead of destroying my body trying to earn enuff money to buy the nose bleed seats I sit in. For the record, in my section I am one of the first to jump to my feet when a big play happens, I just dont feel the need to be rude all my life just prove a point. Even us lower then dirt working class peons have manners

I have been to several games in each sport at the UA, and you know, they look the same standing or sitting.  There are times when standing is appropriate, and the 9th inning Friday night was one, HOWEVER, there was no need for the guy to turn around and call th guy a A$$HOLE.

I still think the school should have a standing only area, where those who apparently go blind when they sit down, and feel they have to stand the whole game could go and all be together.
People ask me what I do in winter when there is no baseball.  I will tell you what I do. I stare out the window, and I wait for spring.

I go to EVERY football game, and a lot of the basketball gmaes, i NEVER sit when at a football game not from kick off until half time then not from kickoff til the final gun. I stand the entire game , if you dont like it , that is too bad, I paid for my tix and that seat is mine to do with as a i please so long as i dont break any laws.  Believe me it drives me crazy to see all the blue hairs at basketball games sucking up the prime seats, while they dont even seem to give a flyng  rats ass about the game that is going on around them. but u know what, they paid for those seats, it's their right to do with as they please.

The thing about this fan that was behind my wife is that it was a parent of a player, so I don't really know if he is a fan or just a proud parent.  If I were there I would have given it right back to him, but my wife is 5'9 125 lbs not much to her.

Ture, to a point, but the people behind you paid for their seat too, and what if they are too short to see over you even if they stand up ( like someone with a small child or children )?  Or maybe they are phisically incapable of standing the whole game ( my 90 year old grndma does not need a wheel chair to get a round but she could not stand the whole time either ).

That's when I use this thing God gave me, called common sense and common courtesy, I have 4 seats to home football games they are on the 2nd level, [CENSORED], so i have no seats in front of me , and the people that sit behind us dont give a rats ass if we stand the whole game, but I don't stand to be an [CENSORED] i stand to root .

I hope you never sit behind me. Lord you'll never see any of the game. Get you a wheelchair and you can sit right down front.

Or maybe some of your high-class friends that sit around you could stop selling their tix out front and you won't get the working class stiff like me that finds it a privilege to be at the game.

Yes sir, good luck sitting me down. I hope you enjoy the view of my arse crack ...

Working class? What makes you think I am not working class?
FYI, I have spent the better part of the last 25 years walking on concrete floors in factories, and anyone who has spent at least 20 years doing know what I am talking about when i say it wears on your body.
You sir maybe need to get out of the class room or office and try a job at lowest wrung of the ladder. It might give you a new appreciation for others.

Let me enlighten you my working class friend: DID I QUOTE YOU ? No? Is your name in that anywhere? No? Well holy shitte Batman, guess I wasn't talking to YOU.  For the rest of scoring at home, that comment was to the "figurative" fan. Mr Wildhogman, you'd do good not to visit our politics section they'll eat you alive over there.

the only thing more annoying than the person behind you asking you to sit down is when you go see a movie at a theatre and people around you wont stop talkin now that is even more annoying

That is annoying, especially when you've just dropped 40 bucks to watch a movie that in all likelyhood wont even be that good to begin with. Hmm bad movie - bad football , similarities abound

TulsaHawg

By that point of the game, there were plenty of seats where could have adjusted his line of sight and still remained seated.

I try to be considerate of those behind me as far as standing is concerned, but to me that guy was being unreasonable under the circumstances.

but THE single most annoying thing in the world, is when you decide to splurge on a nice meal, to me 60 bucks for two people to eat dinner is splurging, and not 2 minutes after you sit down, they seat some frickers next to you that have the loudest, most annoying child in the world, and the parents do NOTHING to contain this child.

NOTE Last time this happened to me at olive garden in branson, i complained to the manager and he picked up my entire tab.

No the people that smash popcorn on their teeth for 2 hrs is, or the idiot that grazes on twizzlers and rattles the bag ranks up there. Insert cell phone story _____ here, but I digress. Movies your supposed to sit down and shoosh.

TulsaHawg

Here is something you might try if it happens again.....

Turn around and yell at him,  "Off you seat, and on your feet!  Make some noise!  Come on you Razorback fan, let's CALL THOSE HOGS!"  The yell as loudly as you can, "THIS.....IS.... BASEBALL!!!!!"

Works for Shank at every game.   ;)

FLKeysGuy

Maybe you can see if Hog Heaven will make you a baseball shirt that has "HOG FANS ARE STANDING" on the back.  ;)

I never quite got that either, are these people not intelligent enuff to realize that they can actually put the popcorn ALL THE WAY IN their mouths w/o fear of having their fingers bit off? Unless ofcourse they choose to bite down, in which case.....
