My bad guys, thought this was a pick discussion thread as well.  I have posted picks many times in these threads throughout the last couple years, and have had success doing so.  Felt lucky on that Giants game and felt the urge to come post after a strong weekend.  I don't have time to get in here every week and get them down, but I'll stick to just picking from now on. Thread title is pretty self explanatory now that I relook at it. That being said...

Tennessee +2
Nebraska -11
Pitt -7
UCLA -3.5
LSU under 44.5
TX +10.5
ECU +10.5

Very nice day. I severly underestimated Oklahoma, or overestimated Texas. And man, Kentucky has an APB out and has contacted the FBI to help find the terrorist group that kidnapped their defense and bring them to justice. Steve Spurrier hasn't had someone give it up that easy since prom night.

Well ended up +3 units on Saturday.  Sunday I ended up splitting so had to eat the juice.

Basically was a +2.5 weekend.  Wait I am sorry I didn't count Boise st so was a +4.5 unit weekend.

Had a light weekend but went 3-0 (22-5 YTD), with Bama, LSU, and Boise all covering. Time to get aggressive this week.

A few early lines this week:

Purdue at Penn St (-11.5)- TBD; PSU should cover but their O has been sloppy.
Indiana at Wisconsin (-38)- Always do well with Wiscy lines; think they cover here.
USC-E at Miss St (+5)- Really liking USC-E to cover.
Baylor at aTm (-10)- Gut says take Baylor here but may leave this one alone.
OSU at Illinois (-3)- Leaning towards Illinois to cover.
Okie St at Texas (+6)- Leaning towards taking Okie to cover.
Bama at OM (+23.5)- One would think Bama would steam roll OM here.
Kansas St at Texas Tech (-4)- Surprising line to me, liking KSU on the road.
OU at Kansas (+31.5)- One would think OU would hammer rock chalk here.

I've never done better than 55% on the NFL so I don't touch it out of discipline. However, I was very tempted to throw a bill on the Lions tonight. We'll see if discipline pays or not.

i believe in the hogville curse. Just look at my picks that i post on here....im probably 25%. But for the year, im hitting about 61 and have actually turned a decent profit so far.

Guess it's possible though.

I was really liking USCe to cover -5 at MissSt.  Then it dropped to -3.  Now it's dropped to -2.5.  All with the public heavily on USCe.  What am I missing?  I didn't expect Garcia to play, so it looks like him getting kicked off the team should be a manageable distraction (although it makes me a tiny bit nervous about their back-up qb having no experience).  Does it have something to do with the thought that Russell might start or that Relf might see very limited action?

It's time for a rant or tutorial.  You know who you are.  For starters if you are actually wagering money I suggest you go back and read every page.  Many good tips from people in the know.

I must now address the Hogville curse.I think McKdaddy said it best.  To make a long story short hindsight is 20/20.  Nobody is fooling anyone.  If you win every week then post your picks and lose then you were lying about the previous weeks.  Plain and simple.

I am not the best and never claimed to be, but if you will start from the beginning of this thread you will see that it is documented.  Good weeks and bad.

Tip for newbies betting real money.  If you use a local book occasionally bet the other way.  Example  if your local guy knows you are a cowboy fan and you bet them every week he will jack the line.  Put a small bet on the other team sometime.

Also do not ask what is the line on the cowboy game. Use the game numbers.  A  local guy learns trends just like everyone else.  If you will take the cows _7 you will certainly take them -8.  Hope what I am saying makes sense.

Have a second wagering outlet.  Do not rely on one guy or site for a line.  Yes Vegas controls a ton, but your local guy, OOOORRR your website will adjust the line based on money coming in.

Please keep in mind. EVERY book local or vegas wants the same amount of cash on each team in most cases.  They pay out nothing and collect the ten percent juice.

VERY IMPORTANT  if you are betting a game just to bet you shouldn't be involved.  If you are betting a game because it's on TV and you can follow you shouldn't be involved.

This is not a put down or insult this is the truth.  I am going to be 40 years old this December and have been doing this since I was 14.  Got introduced early.  I took a ton of beat downs in those early years.  It helped me learn while I paid my money as a bag boy in a supermarket.

People come onto this thread looking for guidance.  Do not throw out random picks unless you post them ahead of time and you are betting real money.

Allow me to share a bit.  I used to make a living doing this,.     well more money than most make at their salaried job,  I now have a 1 year old so my betting tendencies have changed.  Rather than bet 3 or 4 games at a dime each week I dropped to 1 and 2 unit plays. I mixed in a couple 5 unit and a dime play, hit them all by the way.  Yes they are documented on here.   But now I bet more games at a lesser amount.  No I will not make the scratch I used to, but I also do not run the risk of losing it.  My being a father dictates that, but rest assured EVERY BET I POST I PLACE AND FOR THAT AMOUNT>

Go back to the start.  Read learn and ask any questions you want.  I am no genius, but proof is in the pudding as they say.
Let's make some waves.

I suck.  Never blow your roll on a one game "lock"!

Hogfanintx, I'll ask you to expound on something you said previously in this thread.....you don't like teasers. Why not? Lower payout and/or no pushes?

Many reasons.  Yes you get to move the line.  Simply go back and see how many have won and lost.

A guy worth his stuff can find two wins in a weekend.  a two team parlay pays 2.5 to 1.   a teaser pays even money.  On a teaser a push is out the window.  If you bet a two team parlay for instance and win the first game, but push the second on the line it reverts to a single game bet.  You can still win money.

A teaser is to me a bet for someone that wants to make the game interesting by betting, but does not wanna lose much.

The better play is not tease.  Play a two team parlay instead and lower your bet..  You risk losing less, but get the better payoff.

They call it a teaser for a reason.   Avoid it, don;t play it. Stay away from it.

Either bet the parlay or make two straight bets.  One bet on each game.

For instance.  Monday Night I wasn't 100% certain so I bet the Lions -5.5 for two units and the under 47 for two units.   My mind said also tie them together on a two team parlay for two.  Had I done so I would have made 9 units rather than 4.  In a sense I hedged myself.  Minimized my winnings, but also did the same on the losing end.  If I split I only lose the juice.

Seem to be rambling hope that makes sense.
Let's make some waves.

Likely my only picks this week. No research, just gut instinct:

AU + 2 Florida
LSU -17 Tenn (line is now -17.5, and I still like LSU -17.5)

Jeff "hogfanintx" Anderson

LSU should kill them, that is a bet I will wait to make until game day.  I will take my chances on the line going even higher.

With LSU involved I am always scared they will end up with 15 starters suspended for doing something stupid the night before.

Eh I would lean toward auburn.  Not a game I have really looked at much yet.

Got my brain wrapped around those two tonight.
Let's make some waves.

I'm relatively new to the betting scene (and thus I haven't done anything using real money yet) but I'm following things closely and testing out my strategy.  If I do well enough I will start to use real cash...

I don't see any lines that stand out as a easy money.  This week I am picking Auburn over Florida (+2) because Auburn, given their youth, will play it better at home.  Florida just took two beatings back to back against Bama and LSU, losing their starting qb in the process.  It's very hard to win back-to-back conference games on the road.

Early in the week I got S. Carolina -4 over Miss. State but recent line movement and Garcia's suspension makes me very nervous.  From what I gather, Shaw has accuracy problems and plus it'll be his first SEC road game as a starter.    State has enough problems of it's own: it's o-line injuries and QB play were problematic enough that they failed to get on the scoreboard against UAB (yes, UAB!) in the first half last week.  This one could go either way...and it could come down to who Mullen decides to start at QB.  In hindsight I should have left this game alone...

I also did a small wager on a two game parlay for Alabama (-25.5) to cover against Mississippi and for Arizona State (+15) over Oregon.  Oregon's defense is suspect and last year Arizona State held them to less than 200 yds rushing, forcing Oregon to throw to win.  ASU also outgained Oregon by ~200 yards, but turnovers (7) killed the Sun Devils.  I actually have an inclination to pick ASU to win outright, but two factors make me stop short of this: 1) Oregon is very tough to beat at home, and 2) ASU just played on the road at Utah...   As for Ole Miss...as long as they continue having the problems they have on offense, they will struggle to score against the decent defenses.  Bama should win this handily I do believe....

WILL CLINTON

good stuff all around Hogfan...nice to have your knowledge here...

I had a chance to type up some really good info on some of the games that interest me earlier today, and then as I was about to hit post, my laptop got funky and shut down internet explorer. So, now, Im just gonna give the lines of interest.

None of these are my picks, I will update with my picks tomorrow evening probably.

North Carolina -3 v Miami...I just like North Carolina at home.

South Carolina -3 @ Miss St...line has gone down 2 points and 90% of the bets are coming in on SC...funny line movement

BYU +3 @ Oregon St...I just think BYU is the better football team here. No trends or anything, I just said "WTH" when I saw this line.

I love Mich St -2.5 v Michigan...The public is all on Mich, ESPN has them as a solid top 10 BCS team, I'm not sold though. I like this at -3, but at -2.5 it is a steal. If people keep hitting Michigan though, this could easily be under 2 by kickoff. Waiting to post unit play, but this will be one of my plays here.

Florida -2 @ Auburn...I don't like this game, over 70% of the bets coming in on Auburn, but the line moves the other direction 3 points...Im still trying to get a handle on this type of movement, but gut says take Florida and lay the points. Highly doubt this makes the cut.

Georgia -11 @ Vandy...I just like Georgia, they are still the 2nd best team in the East even though they got beat by SC.

I may add more and there is some line movement that is really confusing, but these are my first impressions. We'll see what tonight and tomorrow do to those impressions.
There is no sacred ground for the conquered.

Jeff "hogfanintx" Anderson

Well take it for what it is worth but here is what I did tonight.

San Diego ST +7 for 1 unit.   From what I can see they and Air Force are almost the same team.  Take away the 3 points Air Force is giving by being the home team and you would still be getting 4 with the Aztecs.

I played USC -3 at CAL for 2 units.  Neither of these teams are very good.  USC hasn't destroyed CAL the last few years.  I am playing the team with more talent here.

I played the over 58 in the USC cal game as well for 1 unit.  Both play terrible defense.
Let's make some waves.

Put 1 on the Aztecs. And 1 on USC teased to -3. Betus is at -4 right now, all based on Rashun Woods being a playmaker. And Cals qb looked horrible last week

I made those bets, but the over scared me because both these teams have shown the ability to struggle in the red zone.  As long as they don't go on clock churning drives and turn it over or start trading field goals for a half it should be safe.

Of course USC turns it over down by cal goal line.

I like Bama to cover on Ole Piss -27. I think Bama has covered nearly every game this year. They beat us by 24, they will murder Ole Piss.

Especially with those Ole Miss suspensions. I checked the line soon after the suspensions were announced and it was scratched.
