Blackie Sherrod, the greatest Texas sportswriter of his generation or any other, now and forevermore, died Thursday afternoon at age 96.

Sherrod died at his home in Dallas of natural causes, said his wife, Joyce. He had been in hospice care for the past week.

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

Sorry to hear this. However, at the age of 96 I rather doubt anyone could argue he didn't have a full life.

He quoted Orville more than a few times, too.  I recall him mentioning Bud Campbell.

You are right, the genuine best of all time in Texas.

Yep I feel for today's young adults cause other than Mike Irwin we have no one of the Level of Bud Campbell. Paul Eles, Orville Henry and Blackie    I glad I got to hear and read them for years and I appreciate their work even more today.
