Texas State appears to be starting completely new with a new staff. They are installing a new offense & defense. Articles with the information are listed below.

It also appears they have an Urban Meyer disciple running the offense. He also spent some time at Miss State assisting with QBs during the Dak era.

"It goes all the way back to when I was playing for Coach (Urban) Meyer at Utah," said Elliott. "The whole idea of the spread offense is to utilize all 11 players on the field. I have been in this offense with a runner, and I have been in it with a thrower. I think when it is really dynamic is when you have (a quarterback) who can do both. That is what I think we are looking for." It will be interesting to see how our D will respond to its first run in with a tempo spread attack with a mobile QB. That has kind of been our kryptonite in the recent past.

Texas State appears to be converting from a "4-2-5 formation to a 3-4 alignment because that formation allows McCray to make several different defensive calls using the same pre-snap formation that an offense tries to read." In the article, they mention how they can execute with it and how multiple they can be. It will be interesting (for me at least) to see it against our OL.

I agree that the odds are heavily in our favor in this matchup. Regardless it will be interesting to see how the team responds to seeing this kind of odd mix of styles. A mini version of a Utah/Urban/MSU up-tempo spread attack and a 3-4 style defense that we would usually not see until those elephants come rolling around. 22 days till the spring game.

They been up and down in their league the past 4-6 years.  So it will be an unknown then they come to town.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

What to expect?? REALLY. A WIN, nothing more, nothing less.  Unless u want to discuss the total embarassment that goes with playing a Citadel Jr.

A little known fact about TSU is that they beat Yale 12-7 in 1936 in a blizzard in front of over 70,000 in the Yale Bowl.  Judy Garland entertained at the half.

TSU will be a chance for us to recover from a tough game at TCU and work on any weaknesses that the Frogs reveal.
We should be able to give a lot of players some quality time.

VERY little known. Judy Garland's first movie wasn't released until November 28, 1936. At the Yale Bowl, in all that snow, she sang "La Cucaracha."

It wasn't a regularly scheduled game.  It was a fund raiser at the end of the season.  Yale asked Texas State because the Board of Trustees thought Arkansas Normal was a cupcake.

Judy Garland didn't sing "La Cucaracha", but she did sing "Texas Tornado".

Judy Garland? Ok Bacon and you need to turn in your man cards.  ;)

One of the things I love about Spring is that boredom brings strange topics to the board. Judy Garland and her choice of songs ranks at the top.  ;D

Post Spring Report is they are installing a hurry up Offense but that they are short handed coming into the fall.

funny how they update things....

in 1936 Texas State = Southwest Texas State Teachers College
Texas A&M Commerce = East Texas State Teachers College
University of North Texas = North Texas State Teachers College

also other fun oddities: Howard Payne and Daniel Baker merged in the 1950's and

Southwestern was a charter member of the Southwest Conference in 1915.

Ashdownpanther

I saw the Texas State vs Yale movie too.................... the guy was throwing watermelons from across the field into a net on the road, and that is what got him recruited.  he also like to play without his shoes, which makes him a true Hope Bobcat.
