The article said that six 'seniors' left the team in a recent season and none graduated.  If they are within a full semester of their degree, how is it that all six choose not to spend that little bit of extra time for something that would be worth so much to these students?

thank in advance

Because it really isn't worth that much to them?

Everyone's motivations are their own; they don't feel they owe anything to the program, in terms of finishing on their own dime.

There's nothing that says that they were 'only' a semester away from completion, either.  Some of these guys do the minimum possible to remain eligible, and never have a degree in mind.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I'm sure some of them figure they'll play ball in Europe, make six figures and have no need for a degree. At least Steven Hill is taking online classes to finish his major.

I am confused - would not 'to be a senior' mean that they were 'on course' to complete a bachelors program that year?  (In other words, if they were behind in the program they would not be a senior.)  That is how I concluded that they would only be a semester away.

Not necessarily.   Keep in mind, for NCAA reporting, you are classified by year of eligibility, not academic completion.  It's how you have so many stories about good academic performers, who are actually in graduate school, competing as seniors, etc.

So now you say there are some full time student/athletes that are not completing a four-year program in five years?  That is sad for the student and the school.  And do understand, I am speaking at any school - not just Arkansas, Vandy, etc.
Thanks ErieHog
