Brian Anderson got the call

So Eibner and Anderson have both been called up to the majors?  I will get that updated, thanks!

Did Blake Treinen ever play for the Hogs, it has University of Arkansas listed under his schools and he currently plays for the Athletics?

DFA means that Eibner was sent back down and/ or removed from the 40 man roster.

It's actually kind of humorous that he has Arkansas listed. Our coaches never gave him a shot.

Twins appear to be trying to stretch Baxendale out in AA because he was pretty effective in his AAA role.

7/31 Update

Eibner's tough year just got worse. Looks like he has undergone Tommy John surgery today. Prayers for a quick & successful procedure.

Maybe he can come back as a pitcher.  He gave it a good hard long try but it was becoming apparent that he wasn't going to make it as a position player, certainly not in a starting role.

Hogs49ers

Dallas Keuchel just threw a gem of a game!  Incredible!  7.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 10 K and no runs with the 2-1 win over Yankees in game 1.

Alex Rodriguez just said "I never once saw someone that good in the 22 years I played, he is a magician." during the post game show on FS1.

Papi said "Lets not get confused about Keuchel, he was the CY Young winner, we are not talking who has the most explosive stuff, but when it comes down to pin pointing the ball, he may be the best I have ever seen."

WizardofhOgZ

How much fun must it be for our coaches to be out on the recruiting trail these days when they can flip their recruiting sales pitch book from a picture of 2 "recent" Cy Young winners (Keuchel, Cliff Lee) to a VERY recent Golden Spikes winner who is balling as a regular at Fenway (Benintendi)?

We've had players in all of the major professional sports before, but I don't remember any one sport having the high-profile names at the same time like we've got in baseball at present.  Just another reason to love our program now and for the next 5-10 years.

Brian Anderson started at 3rd for the Marlins vs the Cubs and is 2-2 with 2 RBIs so far.

Bumping this back up as I am going to update it this week, so if anyone knows where a player is at right now or anything at all that needs changing, I would be happy for the help as I update the list.

Michael Gunn is playing with the Cleburne Railroaders in the American Association. So far this season, he is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 16.33 innings of work.

Chad Spanberger is at Ashville now. Has 17 bombs and is hitting over 300

Chad Span is in A ball, full season in Ashville, NC. I follow him and another kid on that team that my son played high school ball with (Will Gaddis).  By the way Chad is tearing it up and I can't believe the Rockies are not moving him up already.  Some big numbers at any level.

He struggles on the road and he still strikes out a ton. It will be interesting to see how he does against better pitching moving up. As a Rockies fan, I can't wait to see him, in Denver.

Bolsinger is playing in the Japanese league this year.  Has a fantastic 2.06 ERA and is 8-1 in 10 starts, with a 1.16 WHIP. Decision to go overseas is clearly showing his value.

Hogs49ers

With a bit of time on my hands from this rain delay, I was just able to update where all of our former players are at right now.  I am sure I missed something as there were a ton of changes, so please let me know if you catch anything.

He had some injuries towards the end of his career and I believe he retired in 2015 after a forearm strain injury.

The upside is his K rate is falling.  Its still high-- about 1 in every 4 plate appearances, but its better than Rookie ball where it hovered near 1 in every 3.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Just curious what guys do when they make it big. Hopefully for is family and him, they are set.

Lee led the calling of the hogs at the LSU game in 2010. Great time.

Brian Anderson now leads the MLB in hits with RISP. https://twitter.com/Marlins/status/1014310619825270785

Of the 30 2-hole spots in the entire MLB, 2 are occupied by people who played for the hogs in the past 5 years. Pretty good.

Here is a feature article from yesterday's Orlando Sentinel about his success.

He leads rookies in the MLB in batting average, hits, and wins above replacements.

Barrett Astin is now pitching for the Kansas City T Bones of the American Association.  Looks like they've turned him into a starter.  The Reds were using him as a reliever at Louisville before they released him.

Ryne Stanek set/tied an MLB record with 7 consecutive starts without give up a run. "Opener" strategy be dammed.

His line in June was something like: .085/.204/.106, 54 hitters faced, 0.00 ERA.

Funny story.  We had a swarm of bees in the yard this spring and I called the Bee Keeper Association.  Some Guy named Cliff Lee called me and said he would be there in an hour.  Cliff Lee, retired MLB pitcher showed up at my house and removed the bees out here in West Little Rock.  He said it was a hobby he picked up on.  I think he does a lot of things to stay busy and spend time with family.  Really nice guy.

I noticed the Rays also recently called up Hunter Wood from Rogers Heritage.  Was he ever committed to us or on campus in the fall?

I know he pitched for a JUCO in 2013, and went pro after being drafted. Just remember him being a big time pitcher coming out of HS and thought at one point he may be a Razorback.

Blake Parker (Fayetteville High, U of A, drafted in 2006) is having some success lately as the Angels' closer. He picked up his 10th save of the season yesterday in a win over the Mariners.

QuoteThe most unhittable arm in the minors is Colin Poche. Last year, he led the minor leagues in strikeout rate. This year, he again leads the minor leagues in strikeout rate, having increased his own strikeout rate by a dozen points despite going up against much stiffer competition. When Poche pitched in High-A last year, he struck out 37% of the hitters. In Double-A this year, he struck out 60% of the hitters. In Triple-A this year, he's struck out 50% of the hitters. All year long, over 41.1 innings, he's allowed just three runs. He's allowed an OBP of .185, and he's allowed a slugging percentage of .184. Colin Poche is turning in one of the most unbelievable performances you might ever see. Better still, it's not entirely clear how he's doing it.

Was surprised to see him doing so well honestly.

Jalen Beeks just got recalled to Boston today.

Hogs49ers

Beeks is pitching right now for the Redsox.  However, he has had a bit of a rocky start with hit batter and a double on his first 2 batters.  Benintendi has an RBI double and a walk though.

After starting the inning with a hit batter and a double, Beeks got a hit right back at him and traded the double play for 1 run, then walked Gallo on a very good at bat, then grounded out the next batter to only give up 1 run.

yeah, well he cleaned it up with a dp that he started and got out of it with giving up only one run.  AB coming up next inning most likely (fifth batter)

Yah looked like he was a bit nervous to start the inning, but appears to be settling down - hopefully they bring him out for 1 more inning.  In his other start, he struggled early, but really responded well with the adversity, so thinking he will be much better in the next inning if he gets the shot.
