Dillon Gordon will have surgery on his injured Achilles tendon, and his recovery will take a year, Miles said Wednesday.

"I don't know that he's had it yet," he said. "I think they're waiting for the swelling to go down. It's not just an easy surgery. It's going to take some work."

Miles said Monday that the senior tight end, who is a critical piece of LSU's run-heavy offense, will likely miss the rest of the season. The coach is still unsure if Gordon will be granted a medical redshirt.

"I think a guy like that deserves another year, but that's not for me to say," Miles said.

Gordon aggravated his injury while making his first catch of the season against Florida. His original injury came in a 45-21 win against Auburn on Sept. 19 and caused him to miss the three subsequent games. Miles said during his radio show Wednesday that Gordon's injury is "one that will take a full, solid year to rehabilitate."

Tim Kimbrough, the Bulldogs' third-leading tackler this season, missed practice for a second straight day on Friday. Why the 6-foot, 226-pound junior linebacker out is unclear at this point. Neither Kimbrough nor any of the Bulldogs' defensive coaches have been available for comment since bowl practices began on Wednesday.

"I'm not allowed to answer that," senior Jake Ganus, a fellow inside linebacker, said Friday. "That's one for the coaches. Sorry, specifically told."

ATHENS — Interim head coach Bryan McClendon met with reporters after Georgia's practice and was able to provide updates on some players who have been missing from action the past few days. Among the revelations he provided was that linebacker Tim Kimbrough will not be playing in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

"It's from matters that have been handled internally," McClendon said after the Bulldogs' sixth bowl practice. "That's why he hasn't been out there. ... Right now it's just this game."

McClendon wouldn't provide any details for why Kimbrough is suspended.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jonathan Abram is not with Georgia as it begins practice here for Saturday's game, and his future with the program is murky.

Abram also missed the last few bowl practices in Athens to be back home in Mississippi to take care of some personal things, interim head ccoach Bryan McClendon said before Monday's practice.

"He had to handle some of those personal issues at the house," McClendon said. "There's a chance that he could be back but right now we're not counting on him to be here either."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Shaquery Wilson, one of Georgia's freshman receivers, will not play in the Taxslayer Bowl because of what is being called an academic issue.

Wilson did not make the trip with the team to Jacksonville, interim head coach Bryan McClendon confirmed before Monday's practice at North Florida University.

"His is more of an academic issue," McClendon said.

Austin Appleby, a redshirt junior from Purdue, has transferred to Florida

Appleby will reportedly begin classes at UF on Tuesday, giving the Gators five quarterbacks for the spring. The 6-foot-5, 239-pounder will compete with Treon Harris, Luke Del Rio and incoming early enrollees Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask...

Appleby had 18 touchdowns to 19 interceptions over the past two years and was benched this season after throwing six picks in a loss to Virginia Tech.

"Austin's created energy, Austin's created leadership," Purdue coach Darrell Hazell said of Appleby. "One thing we've always stressed, and will continue to stress, is the importance of taking care of the football."

Missouri rising sophomore defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of 35 grams or fewer of marijuana Wednesday night, according to the University of Missouri Police Department arrest log.

The arrest happened at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday...

"I'm disappointed to learn of Terry's actions," Odom said in a statement. "We take this very seriously and in line with our department policies, Terry has been indefinitely suspended and will face team disciplinary measures. I don't want this incident to be viewed as a representation of our athletic department or football program, but we certainly understand the impact one poor decision can have.

"While this behavior is not acceptable, this is a very challenging societal issue that is dealt with everywhere on a daily basis, and we will use this as a learning opportunity for Terry and our program."

He severely injured his right knee on the first defensive snap of Missouri's Nov. 14 win over BYU. The Tigers expect him to be back by the start of fall practice.

Rising junior safety Tray Matthews underwent a surgical procedure on his right shoulder recently, an Auburn team spokesman confirmed Saturday night

The junior was spotted at Auburn's basketball game inside Auburn Arena with a sling supporting his right arm.

Matthews missed three games in his debut season with Auburn due to a shoulder and ankle injuries. He suffered an ankle injury late in the season.

Auburn is "hopeful" Matthews will return for spring practice...

Matthews is the second player to undergo shoulder surgery in recent weeks. Running back Kerryon Johnson is not expected to participate in contact drills at spring practices in March after undergoing a procedure in January.
