Who else is playing the ranked teams we are

I was hoping to end 4-4 in our last eight but starting out at 0-2 makes that hard so I will accept 3-5

:)
Out of Arkansas, TN, A&M & Clemson, only Arkansas was playing a ranked team this weekend , and we were playing #8. Here's how the four teams came out.
Arkansas lost a road series at #8 Kentucky, 2 games to 1
Tennessee won a road series at unranked Florida, 2 games to 1
A&M lost a road series at unranked LSU, 2 games to 1
Clemson won a home series against unranked Georgia Tech, 2 games to 1

I fail to see how that justifies any drastic poll movement except Kentucky moving a few spots up. I kind of get it if Tennessee jumps us to #2 & we drop to #3, but only kind of. We also won a road series 2 games to 1 at unranked Florida. Clemson home series 2 to 1 win over an unranked team? Meh.

Quote from: Pork Ranger on Today at 12:00:27 pmIt's from a few years back but you can watch it on ESPN+. Really good documentary and gives you everything you need to know about the man and his coaching career.

I was too young to remember much from the 1994 season and didn't realize how bad Cal and UMass stuck it to us that year. The man's been a helluva coach for a very long time. Good times ahead

I watched it when it first came out and then again when Cal announced he was coming to Arkansas. I agree 100%. It is an honest depiction of his life and shows why his former players still love him years later because he always had their backs and truly cared about him. Great documentary, every Hog basketball fan should watch it.
I don't get why anyone wouldn't think that the 30 for 30 shows aren't great.

Monday Morning Quarterback / Re: Chamblee to SMU
Last post by bennyl08 - Today at 11:07:55 pm
Quote from: Hogo Piglitz on Today at 08:44:42 pmI said they don't in present form with real leadership. You are aware they finished in the top 25 at the end of the season for the first time since 1984.

Chamblee is going to a better team in current form in a strong conference. Let's be honest every conference is a step down from the SEC Most seasons.

1. No you didn't. You literally never specified anything resembling 'in present form', and also yeah, they've lost to many of those teams quite recently.

2. You are aware that SMU went 0-3 against any power conference schools last year right? That includes a 5-7 BC and a 5-7 TCU... They lost those games by an average of 13 ppg. Yeah, good luck playing 9 games like that or better moving forward... And like you said, losing badly to 5-7 and 7-6 teams in the weakest 'power' conferences is SMU's BEST season in nearly 40 years.

3. Chamblee isn't going to a better team.

4. ACC is a vastly weaker conference than the PAC was 2 years ago and likely won't exist in 2 years time either. Heck, the ACC came in 4th, barely above the B12 (again, where they lost badly to a 5-7 TCU team) in draft picks this past draft. Powerful relative to the FCS? Sure. Relative to the PAC, B1G, or SEC last season? No. Relative to either conference next season? Not a chance.

5. True, but 2024 onwards, which is the season that Chamblee is stepping down for, that step is turning into a small jump. Facing a 20% decrease in talent is a step down. The NFL talent he's facing next year will be halved (albeit, still way more than that "top 25" SMU team this year faced who again, couldn't beat any power schools, not even two schools that combined for a losing record.

Miami transfer Norchad Omier has committed to Baylor, per his Instagram

@BaylorBears247
Huge addition for Baylor. Elite rebounder adjoining Baylor in Norchad Omier. Tons of postseason experience, and a developing 3-point shot.

That came out of nowhere.  I didn't even know Baylor was in the running, they obviously paid up.  I was really hoping we'd get him.

Looks like we need to shift our efforts to JT Toppin or Achor Achor.

I got ya, Kris. I must have re-written that 4 or 5 times & still wondered whether it was just too much. Maybe it was. I'll tell you this. It spent WAY too much time on the SEC baseball site getting that info.

Quote from: Olive Branch Hog on Today at 09:51:42 pmWell, that kinda stings, although I hadn't seen much to believe that he would end up a Razorback.   Like most, simply ready to have a good feel of what our roster will be next year sooner rather than later.  Patience is a virtue however and I solidly believe we will fill these last scholarships with players that will help achieve the goals for 2024-25

As Sully and Rick said the other day on Drivetime / it's been an adjustment to get used to the drip, drip of information on the BB recruiting front. Cal just has a different way of doing things than Muss.

So people who think like we do are sort of between a rock and a hard place.  You make a good point about the distribution of wealth in this country.  People who work the hardest often make the least.  Education helps.  But at the end of the day I'll take free markets over government controlled markets - or worse - monopolies or oligopolies - every day, and I'll bet you would, too.

Funny thing about this is that I would hazard a guess that the majority of the kids benefiting from the current climate are coming from the low income side of the wealth distribution. So this is a good thing in that regard.

I'd also take a country not controlled by monopolies or oligopolies. I wonder what that would be like ;)

Quote from: bphi11ips on Today at 02:22:17 pmMarcus Camby was a man among boys at Umass.  Maybe that's where Cal's rep with Centers began.  Positionless basketball aside, you can build a team around a dominant Center. But it's the dribble drive, rotation offense that he seems to be best known for.  Makes you wonder whether Battle might have worked in it, but his style of dribble drive isn't Cal's style.  His teams create space with great players everywhere.

Never been a big fan of "30 on 30", but that's one I'll watch soon.

I loved watching Camby at UMASS and in the NBA. I was pretty young when he was in college, but I watched so much basketball and baseball on tv at that age. 1993-2001 ~ is the era that I remember the most about in sports, as a fan.

Quote from: Dave-Van-car-Horn on Yesterday at 09:55:02 pmI was there in Fayetteville sitting beside the fans from USC. Cocky group! The loudest I heard the stadium that night was when Nutt finally put Mitch in and him and Williams hooked up for that last TD.

I was in the student section - I'd gotten to the game late and had to sit in the NEZ upper deck.

I remember staying until the end of the game, mainly to see if Mitch would enter the game.

Had a great Birds Eye view of that drive.

Somehow that's actually a good memory, despite getting our ass handed to us.
