Tigers have already lost its prized QB commit in Feleipe Franks, the nation's No. 1 athlete in JaCoby Stevens and now 3-star safety Clifford Chattman has de-committed, according to Hunter Paniagua of The Advocate.

"I had little contact with LSU, and with all the stuff going on, I figured it was best to reopen my recruitment and look at other universities," Chattman told James Smith of NOLA.com.

Wayne Davis got to know Jeremy Pruitt well over the past two years when Pruitt recruited his son Ben, a five-star linebacker from Gordo, to Georgia.

Now, the relationship will continue with Pruitt as Alabama's defensive coordinator. AL.com has reported that Pruitt is expected to assume that role and Alabama made the news official on Friday afternoon.

Wayne, who will head to Hattiesburg, Miss., this afternoon to watch Ben play in Saturday's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, caught wind of the news Friday morning.

Wayne Davis, Alabama's all-time leading tackler, noted that Pruitt is a "great coach and a great recruiter."

"If that's something that 'Bama's seeking, man, no doubt, he'll be a good fit," Wayne Davis said. "As far as Ben goes, he's met Coach Pruitt numerous times. The system that he established there in Georgia would be a good fit for Ben, no doubt about it. If that's what is about to take place, I'm all for it. I think it would be great."

For the past 18 months, the 6-foot-6 frame of star high school quarterback Feleipe Franks seemed as prevalent on LSU's campus as any current football player.

"He already new (sic) the terminology and schemes. ... I had a good source telling me that. That's how entrenched he was," Crabtree said. "He was the guy. He was walking around campus like he was running the place."

They're on the hunt for a QB, searching for a prospect to replace Franks — a guy ranked at one point as the top dual-threat QB in the 2016 class.

It's not the best time to be looking.

Hughes left MSU to accept the head coaching position at Jackson State. Hughes' on-field title at Mississippi State was assistant head coach and safeties coach. But his title of recruiting coordinator made him invaluable to Mississippi State.

Hughes spent 29 years coaching in the Magnolia State. Few, if any, understand the recruiting landscape within these borders better than Hughes. He's coached high schools, in junior college, and at Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

His familiarity within Mississippi's high schools allowed the Bulldogs to unearth many prospects overlooked by other programs.

"He has been a loyal assistant and a tireless recruiter," Mullen said in a release. "He's done a tremendous job in helping elevate our program in our seven years here."

Hughes also had the tools to reel in the highly-touted prospects. Last year, Leo Lewis, the top-rated inside linebacker in the country, remained undecided heading into signing day. Hughes closed the deal.

"Thank you for (Tony Hughes), God Bless," Lewis tweeted after Hughes' announcement at Jackson State.

Michael Divinity, a 4-star linebacker, de-committed from LSU late Wednesday night and said he will decide between the Tigers and Texas A&M.

"I have decided to officially (de-commit) from LSU," Divinity tweeted. "I (want to) thank the coaching staff and fans for the support. I want to take this time to make sure this is the right decision for me. I will be signing my Letter of Intent on Jan. 5 at John Ehret High School. The two schools will be ... LSU (and) Texas A&M."

Auburn, Louisville clean up in Mississippi
"We are thrilled to be able to add two outstanding players to our 2016 recruiting class during this period," Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino said in a release.
Auburn also filled position needs with Mississippi juco products. Co-Lin defensive tackle Paul James III and EMCC quarterback John Franklin III will head to the Plains next month to begin their SEC football careers. Both played for Power 5 programs prior to heading to junior college (James at Illinois and Franklin at Florida State).

SEC schools tap into Mississippi talent
Outside of Auburn, two other SEC programs signed Mississippi juco players on Wednesday. Northwest offensive tackle Terrance Malone signed his NLI with Arkansas after picking up a total of 18 offers. The Razorbacks were the first SEC program to offer Malone last week. Holmes wide recevier Dre Massey, the top ranked Mississippian in ESPN's JUCO 50 at No. 12, signed with Florida.

BATON ROUGE – With the loss of elite quarterback commitment Feleipe Franks to Florida, LSU has gone to the hurry-up, no-huddle recruiting offense to find another quarterback in time for national signing day on February 3.

Franks, the No. 2 pro style quarterback in the nation according to Rivals.com at 6-foot-6 and 203 pounds out of Wakulla High in Crawfordville, Florida, had been committed to LSU since June of 2014. Franks being in LSU's fold was one reason why the Tigers lost No. 1 dual threat quarterback Shea Patterson out of Calvary Baptist in Shreveport via IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, to Ole Miss.

Franks attended LSU games early this season, then began shifting to his state school – the Florida Gators – and attended games at The Swamp.

Through early and mid-November – weeks before LSU athletic director Joe Alleva and LSU Board of Supervisors members began a move to fire head coach Les Miles – Franks told LSU coaches he was considering de-committing from the Tigers. On Monday, Nov. 23 – two days after LSU lost its third straight game to fall to 7-3 and Miles looked in danger of being fired – Franks told LSU he was de-committed. He then committed to Florida on Nov. 29 – one day after Miles saved his job with a 19-7 victory over Texas A&M to finish the regular season at 8-3. Franks signed with Florida last week.

LSU offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Cam Cameron had been the lead recruiter for Franks. And it did not help LSU's efforts for Franks when Alleva did not allow Miles to extend Cameron's contract, a three-year deal that expires in March. Miles has still been unable to extend Cameron's contract.

Since the end of the regular season, Miles and Cameron have been trying to find another quarterback to sign for the class of 2016. Last Wednesday, Cameron spoke to Anthony Russo, a nationally unranked pro style quarterback out of Archbishop Wood High in Warminster, Pennsylvania, according to Shea Dixon of 247 Sports. Russo is committed to Rutgers but has not been recruited by a lot of big time programs. His other offers are from Bucknell, Buffalo, Connecticutt, Monmouth, Towson and Temple.

LSU coaches are also recruiting Dwayne Haskins, the No. 3 pro style quarterback in the nation and No. 83 overall prospect in the country, according to Rivals.com. Haskins (6-2, 188) is out of Bullis High in Potomac, Maryland. He has been committed to Maryland since May 15. He visited Ohio State on Dec. 11 and Florida on Nov. 27. LSU is also considering other high school quarterbacks. As of yet, Miles is not considering a transfer.

"I'm not really at this point in time looking for that," Miles said Friday after practice. "And if I was, frankly, I wouldn't tell you."

Miles has four quarterbacks on scholarship now – sophomore starter Brandon Harris, junior Anthony Jennings, freshman Justin McMillan and Purdue transfer Danny Etling, who will be a junior next season.

Jalen Hurts, a 4-star prospect from Channelview, Texas, has signed his financial aid papers with Bama

By signing the papers, the Crimson Tide can have unlimited contact with Hurts. The grant-in-aid paperwork doesn't bind Hurts to Alabama but it binds Alabama to Hurts, which means that the school must give him a scholarship. If he doesn't sign, Alabama will be hit with recruiting violations.

A&M coach Kevin Sumlin had an in-home visit with Hurts shortly before the NCAA dead period began. The Aggies have had two former 5-star quarterbacks, Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, transfer away from the program in the past week and now are in desperate need to fill the holes left by them.
