I'd be willing to bet that if you went back and looked at every 9+ win season, 80% were done on the back of an exceptional in state class.
In the 122 seasons that Arkansas has had they have had only twenty-three 9+ winning seasons, the first was in Frank Broyles second year (1959 - 9-2 season).  Broyles had eight 9+ winning seasons (1959,1962,1964,1965,1968,1969,1970,1975), Holtz had four(1977,1978,1979,1982), Hatfield had five(1985,1986,1987,1988,1989), Nutt had four(1988,2002,2003,2006), Petrino had two (2010,2011).     So, given the era's, who do you think were the exceptional instate class members for these years?

Im not old enough for 1980 and earlier but i can take a quick stab at it.

Hatfield had James Rouse and Derek Russell
Nutt had Madre Hill, Matt Jones, Cedric Cobbs, Dmac
Petrino had Mallett, Warren 3, Tyler Wilson

btw my difference is "good" and NFL possible/probable.  Basically Cedric Cobbs was good Darrin McFadden was great.

that is a lot of research.

the 2008 class had 15 instate recruits that culminated in the 2010-2011 seasons

2005 had 8 instate commits that lead to success in 2006.

2001 had 10 instate recruits that leadd to success in 2002/2003

thats about as far back as the recruiting records Im using go.

obviously a lot more goes into success than instate recruiting, but having good instate recruiting years definitely helps.

we get some good instate players every year.  that is not the same as having 10-15 instate signees in a single class many of which end up in the NFL.

that is pretty rare for arkansas, and generally equals success over the next few years.

Problem is, since 2002 anyway, we have had 1 class with 15 players from Arkansas. We have had a few (2-3 maybe?) with 10-12 but the vast majority have had 9 or less. Now I am sure that pre-HDN (especially the Broyles era) there were a lot of classes that had higher numbers of Arkansas kids, but that was before everyone started going more nationally to recruit.

yes, the state of arkansas high school football has been discussed at length in the recruiting forum.  We need better high school football to produce more/better high school prospects.  CBB can only work with whats there.

Oh I agree with you but as you know it is a matter of "per capita" and that probably isn't going to change a great deal. That's exactly why we have to focus on out of state recruiting so much and also why I think that there is an increased emphasis on Louisiana and Texas, both of which are good things.

This should be the end of it. He is having to rebuild a program after an interim coach debacle, and it takes time. It takes more time when you don't have in state talent that can compete at an SEC level.

And I think I've said it on here before, but IF we had (stupidly) fired Bielema after 2016, we'd have been on our 4th HC in 10 years. Who do you hire? Who dares to come here for that rebuild in the SEC WEST? The program needs STABILITY, and Bielema is recruiting well, has his players doing well in class, and doesn't get into trouble off the field. Should we be ok with 7-8 win seasons forever? Of course not. But it's like, people have no concept of the task he has inherited when came here.
This can't be posted enough IMO.  CBB has a solid roster of players staying out of trouble, in class getting their education.  He's recruiting high character kids and he's coaching them up to build a solid foundation.  And he's doing this while keeping Arkansas out of the NCAA cross-hairs, which speaks volumes in the recruiting environment of today.
