We had three players with cramps on the floor. We were already outmatched athletically; trying to run a motion handicapped was impossible.

We needed a minimum of 2 legitimate scoring threats on the court at the same time, to execute in the half court all day.

Beard and Bailey and a Moses off his offensive game, and it becomes a steep hill to climb on a number of possessions in the last 4 minutes, where offensive efficiency went out the window.

Our guys were gassed. Had to be at 100% effort in every facet to get to that point and they ran out of steam.

Carolina extended their defense, cut off the passing lanes and really put pressure on the ball handler.  It didn't look like we had an answer.

Selfish play that's what.

Rat cooty street ball instead of a true half-court offensive set.  Similar to lack of rebounding, it's a failing that comes with our style of play.

That said, I don't think we could line up and play a half court grinder with NC.

Roll the dice, play hard. We did.

They also started playing super tight man knowing late they had only been called foe 3 fouls so they took the risk.

Beat me to it...that's the benefit of only being called for 3 fouls...they were able to play tight and we were too tired to beat them off the dribble

They did to us what we did to SH. They also benefited from not really having any first round competition.  The fact the game was close and we had a chance late speaks volumes about our heart

Selfish play that's what.

I'm not sure it was intentional. Players got tight. They mentally overthought everything and couldn't see the court. They didn't get the ball to Dusty for a dagger a couple times when he was wide open and could have put us up eight. In other words, we fell apart, largely due to our lack of experience in these situations. We outplayed them, but made a few mental mistakes down the stretch.

Sucks to lose this way, but it was a great effort, and I think CMA can use this season to help bring in the recruits he wants.

This^^^^^.   Plus we were standing around without setting offball screens to get open.   Team played well, tired at the end and NC stepped up D once they got ref helped momentum.

Barford and Hannah killed us...Barford stops the offensive flow and plays 1 on 5...Hannah can't handle the ball...both slow down the offense..

Completely panicked and froze up. Dribbled around for 30 seconds and chucked 3s.

Barford and Hannahs were ineffective tonight due to UNC's length. Their drives to the hoop were automatic turnovers. Combined, they were 7/21 with 11 TOs.

Pretty amazing that we were able to keep it close. Macon used his quickness to get around their length and was hot from the field.

The answer most people won't accept is that UNC simply played incredible defense like the #1 seed they are. Everywhere we turned there was a defender in their face. We do that to teams at time, even did it tonight at times. They did it to us. Really really good defense makes any offense look bad. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

Lack of any type of offensive plan. One guy dribbles, no penetration, shot clock forces up some desparation and thats what you get. Proud of the team though- they never quit. NC defense stepped up hard and we had no answer.
This is the time that the coach has to draw up something and get his team believing- not throw up prayers.

Woopig- it sure was fun to care in March wasn't it?

North Carolina's defense wasn't chopped liver either. Those guys rose to the occasion and played really freaking tough the last few minutes.

Yep, needed another scorer to step up. Too much, I'm feeling it at the end, instead of some motion we were running. Their length definitely played a part, Dusty was overmatched most of the time.

Poor spacing.

Too much one-on-one ball.

Both are results of poor fundamental basketball.

The magnitude of the above gets amplified during crunch time.

Unfortunately, in the last three minutes our answer appeared to be to have the ball-handler stop in the corner and then direct traffic with NO movement from anyone else for 15 seconds; now time to panic.

ACCURATE.

It's also a by-product of the style we play in the what is required in a tight game under two minutes is (all of the above) what we do worst.

^^^^^^

It's a shame that we have absolutely no idea what to do at the end of a game like that.  It was great seeing us play toe-to-toe with them, but when we had a chance to ice it we stood around waiting for someone to throw up a prayer from 25 feet.  Did MA not tell them what to do?...or did they just not do what he said?

We were gassed. The reason why Barford dribbled so much was because he didn't have the juice to get past anyone after the injury. It wasn't due to us getting worn down by UNC, we wore ourselves down because the only way we could win was to extend our defense like we did. If Jaylen doesn't hurt his hammy, 50/50 chance we hang on.

When all you fatasses can go toe to toe with the best team in the country, then you can come on here and talk about how "poor" these kids played at the end. Until then STFU, and congratulate these kids on one hell of a season.

No offense Erie, but it is amazing how people can see the same game and come out with a different view.  I felt the opposite.  When we tried to run our offense, their length and speed really affected us.  When we tried to push it in transition, we scored more easily.  I don't know how many to times we tried drive the baseline  and they cut us off forcing a turnover.

UNC goes like 6'6" to 6'8" and 6'10" at the 2-4 Hogs were running a 3 guard lineup with a 6'6" kid at the 4.  That caught up to Hogs.

Watch the game and chart the possessions.

We were much, much better when the shot clock ran under 17, than when we shot before then.

And Carolina shot about 27% in their halfcourt sets.    They'd have had no offense whatsoever, without transition today.

What happened was it stopped being an up and down the floor game and went back to what it was when NC jumped out to the big 1st half lead. Hogs couldn't handle the size in half court situations.

Correct, transition and offensive boards was their offense for 75% of the game. We've never been a great set piece team, just get used to it, I have.

We may have been better then their half court O, but our offensive efficiency was much  better in transition.  Their length really affected us in the half court.

As have I.

The problem is, in tight games, what you often require is a set piece.

Our offensive efficiency in transition was not that good;  in the 1st half, it was absolutely abysmal, though it did pick up significantly in the middle 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Overall, we shot a little better in the halfcourt than we did in transition-- which is severely messed up, as transition opportunities should be easier ones, often at the rim itself.

Selfish play that's what.

Alright man, you don't really have to give me your house, but you do need to either make a public statement that says I am letting you out of it.  It would also be nice if you would admit that you're wrong and start acting like your knowledge is so great either.

Omg.  Most inaccurate post of the year?

We got tired at the end.  Not enough horses that can play with that level of competition.  Dusty was overmatched, but I'll take him shooting a pull up 3 every time down the court over our last 6-8 possessions.  He's bound to hit two of them.

The last 4 minutes of the game we got zero in half court.  We tried all three pointers with two or three defenders on it.  It was horrible.
