....my vote would go to the 1989-90 Final Four team with Day, Mayberry and the BIG O.  To me they just exemplified what 40 Minutes of Hell was all about.

So how is your favourite Arkansas team of all-time and why are they your favs?

BrooklynRoss

I'm partial to the 1993-94 national championship team, but for selfish reasons. I was a poor college kid working as an advertising salesperson for the student newspaper. When we got in the final four? Suddenly every time you answered the phone a t-shirt company wanted to buy a full-page ad for Razorback Final Four merch. I actually just lived in the office for a week so I wouldn't miss any of those phone calls. I made like $600 off that team, which was a fortune to someone like me at that time. The team was pretty good too!
I support the Razorbacks in the city that never sleeps.

ErieHog

I slightly prefer the team that lost to Kansas the next year (90-91) and the one that lost to Memphis in a great game in 91-92,  as well as the national runner up of 94-95.

It all comes down to brand of ball you like.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

The triplets and company a la 77-78.  They started the love affair between the Razorback basketball program and the state of Arkansas.  They were all Arkansas lads, they played with incredible tenacity and Syndey Moncrief was my absolute hero when I was 11 years old.

Me too. That team that started it all was so solid. They were both clutch and tenacious on D. Fans fell in love with BB and Barnhill became a dreaded stop for visitors. Just behind them were the 93-94 team with Corliss and Scotty

SPAL

The 2000 squad that gave Nolan his only sec title. That team wasn't all that but they got hot and played with tremendous heart and won the SECT.

ErieHog, can you please expand on your reply? Specifically, what about the brand of ball played by the  90-91 and 94-95 teams do you prefer vis a vis the 1989-1990 team?

The 90-91 team did a few things better-- they were better at getting to the line, they rebounded better, and they liked to shoot the 3 more--  they probably weren't quite as skilled, but they scored more on volume and being a better team defensively-- they forced about 30% more steals+blocks+turnovers, than the previous squad did.

94-95 was definitely our mad bomber team-- they loved that 3, and lived by it-- no other Hog team, before or since, has taken anywhere near as many 3s-- the next closest in program history shot 85 less threes.  They also played frantic, turning the ball over and forcing turnovers at historically high rates.

Erie, so are you basically saying that both the 90/91 and the 94/95 teams PRESSED MORE and played the 40 minutes of hell style MORE AGGRESSIVELY AND FRANTICALLY than my beloved 89/90 squad did?

Not really.    With the 90/91 team, they got into a ton of sloppy games--  pressed similarly, but with more feast/famine results.  94-95 was a pure bombing team, which was fun to watch, and had some issues handling the ball in the halfcourt, particularly among bench bigs.

1994 was my favorite although I think the 1991 team was the best.

Easy answer is the national championship/runner up teams, since I was very young when I attended early 90s games, but I really latched onto the 97-98 team because I enjoyed basketball more by then. Kareem is still my favorite PG we've had, and "The Shooter" was all unathletic white guys favorite. Nicky D, Hood, and Adebayo may be my favorite combination of rim protectors we've had as well. And of course the head case Glendon Alexander jumping ship. That team had talent, was on a roller coaster, and still almost knocked off a national runner up in Utah in the 2nd round. They weren't are most efficient squad, but they played fast and were fun to watch, especially going undefeated at the Bud.

Biggus Piggus

The 1993-94 team and it's not even close. Had some of everything you need, could match up with anybody, incredible depth of talent on the bench, shooters galore. Tough defenders, some quickness, power and skill in the post, nothing else came close.

And no fricking way on earth the 1990-91 team was better. Nolan diagnosed the shortcomings and built it better. Competition overall was tougher in 1994, and Arkansas still won the national title.

Kareem Reid/Pat Bradley/Derek Hood... It is when we first got our season tickets. I knew all about the 94 team and the 95 team, but I never got to see them play live, so for me it was that great trio.

Dominicanhog

1979.. the greatest year by any Razorback in Football/Basketball history... Sidney put us on his shoulders and came within some suspect officiating of ruing the Bird/Magic lovefest that lasted for the next 15 years..

of the two great eras (of my lifetime) I always thought the most highly of Day, Mayberry, Miller.  Lee Mayberry was the man in my eyes as a kid.  He could do no wrong.  When he squared up to hit that long 3 vs Texas (Strollin' with Nolan game) I yelled "IT'S GOOD" before it left his hand.  There was no way I could see Mayberry missing that shot.  Not when it counted. When we lost to Duke in the Final Four...that was my first Razorback basketball gut punch.  None ever hurt as bad after that one.

The 2nd era is when we touched greatness and they deserve all the credit but something about my age in that first era.  Made it all seem magical.

Bingo, they had it all except maybe a dominant inside defensive presence. On offense it was take a number on who you want to kill you, along with Big Nasty. Corey Beck will always be one of my favorite Hogs, the Heart of a Champion.

I'm with you here, but I'm over 60.  My favorite moment is sports was besting UCLA in the Albuquerque pit.

Same for me. Was just a little too young to appreciate those championship teams, though I remember watching the games somewhat. The teams with Reid/Bradley/Hood/Nick Davis were when I really started watching and knowing what was going on. I remember Reid use to wear one sleeve cut off and I wanted to do that in my basketball games.

How do you choose between the Moncrief/Delph/Brewer teams, the Day/Mayberry/Miller teams, and the Corliss/Scottie/Corey Beck teams?  I mean, that's like asking somebody with three kids which one is their favorite.

I will always remember all three of those teams - and yes, I know they span more than one season each - as special groups that I was fortunate to follow.  Great memories from all of them.

Exactly right. I was fortunate to be at the UofA 76 to 80. Those were special teams and exciting times. Ive been hooked on Razorback basketball ever since.

I can' only imagine what is what it was like for students during those 90s teams. I do know how it felt watching them win it all on TV.

I've raised my kids to be all Hog even though they were born elsewhere. I hope they get to experience even a little bit of what I did.   :razorback:

The 1978 team is my favorite simply because I was close to the same age as the players..never forget beating UCLA that  year, that game MADE Razorback basketball.

I also liked the 1991 team, though I don't think we could have beat Vegas had we reached the final four or maybe even Duke though we had beaten them earlier in the year.

The 94 team is the best team Arkansas ever had though and was the best team in college basketball that year. The best team doesn't always win the NC but that year it did..

ChicoHog

The 77-78 team was important but because I was still in HS in PA I only got see them play in the Final four on TV.  I just knew about them through my sister who was a teacher at the University and whatever I could read about in the papers and/or Sports Illustrated.

So for me it would be the 82-83 team which was my senior year and I loved going to the games even when we lost (to Houston).  Sutton was a master tactician.  Hogs rarely made mistakes and played up their ability just about every game.

ShadowHawg

92-93 for me. Man, those kids played hard.

They went into Arizona after Corliss got hurt and took it to them. Stopping the longest home winning streak in college basketball at the time. Robert Shepard broke the single game record for steals at Arkansas that game. Darrell Hawkins provided incredible leadership on that team and passed on a work ethic that the 94 team used to win the Ncaa tournament.

That team also overcame the loss of Craig Tyson in midnight madness. He was a juco transfer who was supposed to be a big time scorer. He was powerfully built too. He and Beck on the court together would have been something to see.

They made the Sweet 16.

The game against Indiana St was my basketball version of the great shootout. I refused to pull for Celtics because of that game.

I like the 93/94 NC team and not just because they won it all the year I graduated HS and joined the AF.  I loved that they could beat you in so many ways.  They could hit you with a full-court press, shut you down with half-court defense, beat you in the paint (Big Nasty, Darnell, Wilson) and kill you from the outside (Scotty, Dillard).  Three of my favorite players were Corey Beck, Clint McDaniel and Alex Dillard
