High quality field for the NIT.  It has the potential of being a very exciting tournament unlike this year's NCAAT, which has the potential of being a real dud.

Syracuse   3 wins against Top 10 ranked teams.
Clemson   3-0 against the SEC this season (just like their football team was against the SEC this season)
Alabama   Probably played the 2nd best basketball in the SEC Tournament, 2nd best after Kentucky, and Kentucky was fortunate to have won against them.
Ole Miss   Lost a tough game in the SEC Tournament, a loss that could very well have been a win (which may have gotten them into the NCAAT).

Harder to make the post season via SEC Men's Basketball than say for State football to make a bowl game.

Georgia a No. 2 seed, Alabama a No. 3 seed and Ole Miss a No. 5 seed in NIT. So 8 SEC teams wind up in postseason.

QuoteAlabama's season ended with a whimper.

For the second straight season, the Tide was bounced from the NIT in the first round.

This time, the team that defeated Alabama was Richmond. The Spiders prevailed, 71-64, at Coleman Coliseum.

The Tide, the No. 3 seed in the Iowa quadrant, struggled to overtake the Spiders throughout the game. Alabama trailed for more than 30 minutes. If not for Corban Collins, the outcome wouldn't have been close.

Collins repeatedly made baskets to keep Alabama within striking distance. He finished with 19 points in his final game with the Tide.

Depth isn't always the answer. Alabama outscored Richmond 35-0 in bench points, but sometimes you find five and play.

Avery J.: "We've recruited in a way that guys coming in are ready to go. Take Kentucky. They don't sit a De'Aaron Fox until the 25th game."

Ole Miss beats Monmouth in the first round of the NIT, 91-83. Rebels face the winner of Syracuse/UNC Greensboro next round.

QuoteAfter a one-point loss to Arkansas in the SEC Tournament, Ole Miss didn't show any signs of letdown in the first round of the NIT.

The fifth-seeded Rebels trailed by three at the half, but shot 65.4 percent in the second half, which propelled them to a 91-83 victory against fourth-seeded Monmouth in New Jersey Tuesday night.

It's Ole Miss' first postseason win since 2015. It'll face the winner of the Syracuse/UNC Greensboro game in the second round of the NIT.

Deandre Burnett scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and knocked down four 3s. Sebastian Saiz set a program single-season record with his 21st double-double (23 points and 11 rebounds).

This is Ole Miss' sixth NIT appearance under Kennedy and its first NIT win since 2010. It reached the NIT semifinals that season before losing to Dayton in Madison Square Garden.

It's also the sixth time the Rebels have won at least 21 games under Kennedy. Ole Miss had three such seasons in program history before his arrival in 2006.

Georgia bows out of NIT with loss to Belmont:  http://www.macon.com/sports/college/university-of-georgia/bulldogs-beat/uga-basketball/article138788088.html

QuoteAthens

Georgia had a clear size advantage over Belmont up front. What the Bruins lacked in height it made up for with perimeter shooting.

The Bruins shot 47 percent from behind the 3-point line to defeat Georgia 78-69 in the first round of the NIT. Belmont (23-6 overall) caught fire especially in the second half, making six of its first nine 3-ball attempts.

For Georgia (19-15), the loss ends its season one game short of a fourth consecutive 20-win season.

The Bulldogs entered the game shorthanded as forward Yante Maten was unable to play due to a knee injury that will be re-evaluated. Guard Juwan Parker tore his right Achilles and will see a consultant in the coming days.

Without Maten and Parker available, Georgia was unable to make up for the scoring production lost. J.J. Frazier scored 29 points, with Tyree Crump and Turtle Jackson adding 10 points apiece.
