How much of a recruiting boost do you guys think it is? Do you think food there is good enough that recruits would want to come on visits just to eat???

Shrevepork

You would think it's the only place to eat in Fayetteville.

Would be worth the drive to take recruits to Alma Sonic.

I think we've talked about this in previous years.

The catfish hole is one of the places recruits go to during their visit.  They also go to The Grillehouse for a more formal dinner with the family.  They get campus tours.  They see the facilities.  Much more than just the Catfish Hole.

Yes it is a HUGE benefit.  Best catfish and hush puppies ANYWHERE ;D

FANONTHEHILL

It's about the atmosphere.  That's not a to be critical of the food, because it's very good, but the east side of the restaurant filled with Razorback decor and excited fans is something that gives prospective players and there families a taste of how passionate the fan base can be.

It's amazing how a positive fan base can affect players and families.  Something that seems to be lost on a lot of Hogville.

What exactly do you guys want a black tie affair?   Has any other place even been competitive with The Catfish Hole for providing the atmosphere needed for these recruiting visits?

Might as well go to Long John Silvers.

Sir Oinksalot

...when I ate there is was ok, not great because the catfish tasted kinda muddy, not the pure white meat, so it must be the atmosphere.  I have had better at that Sassys, but, Ill go back because one visit doesn't make or break a place for me. Since I bought a place up there recently I'd like to go on recruit night, just have to time it right.

I spoke with a guy several years ago who described raising the best catfish and, it's an art form!!

Great atmosphere during recruiting visits. The food, it's pretty good. CH is one of the better catfish places in NWA, but would be hard pressed to crack the Top 5 NEA.

Some of their other dishes are good.

Their food is ok, it's all fried so hard to mess it up. It's on the college side of town so they can show off the area's where they will be most of the time. I personally do not know many people who go their that often. It's just on the wrong side of town for us to frequent with any constancy.

HoneyNuttPetrinoos

I like catfish and hushpuppies with the best of them but i don't want to sit and smell it for 2-3 hours.

while I really like the catfish and slaw, sugar in hushpuppies (for this South AR boy, anyway) is just wrong.  that said, hard for me to believe that a visit to Catfish Hole "...seals the deal..." for recruits

Cubbie08

Backwods Barn had better food than Catfish hole. They closed down about 6 years ago though.

The sugar in hush puppies is a Yankee thing.

every college town has a place like the catfish hole. Maybe serving different kinds of food, but it is replete with school pride ( banners, signs, pictures, etc ).

No, I mean, for a weekend place just to go and eat, sure, go and take the family and order you some hush puppies.  But to take some of these city kids for a recruiting stop over, IMO, it's a bit hokie.  And I'm as backwoods country as they come.

And I agree very much with this, putting sugar in hush puppies is a yankee thing.  I can literally name 20 places around me with better hush puppies.

They are fed steaks at other places, or being catered to on top of the BAC...oops, hard to do that now.

I've always thought it was a bit curious as well as slightly rednecky that we tote our recruits to one of the "whitest" places you can find in NWA--- please folks, I'm not talking about the owners or the restaurant. But a wood-wrapped catfish joint stocked full of about 98% white folks? Must be appealing to our football and basketball recruits.

NWA is 98% white so it's going to be like that pretty much everywhere.  I bet even the rib places up there are owned by white people.  Maybe y'all could send some buses down here to central Arkansas to import some actual black people just for those recruiting visits kind of like the casinos do to get gamblers.  😉

As the dad of two boys ages 18 and 14, taste of food is not usually a big issue, it is just how much. I am not worried if the catfish there is just average. I just do not think, compared to where other schools we compete again, that the catfish hole is a bigger asset than some restaurant in Oxford or College station or Baton Rogue or even Columbia.

Hate to disagree with you. Not one place in NEA can touch catfish hole for catfish, fries, hushpuppies, and slaw.

Catfish hole and the fans there have helped recruiting tremendously.

Didn't Bobby Petrino order spaghetti there or did I dream that? Another good reason to get rid of the man.

But that's not in any way a knock on the recruiting trips, etc. CH is pretty good. There just happen to be many others that are better.

No sir I have not but I have noticed that you have a tendency to be disagreeable bordering on argumentative so I am taking this with my usual grain of salt considering the source, and I say that with all due respect.

And not to be cantankerous but it seems like you NEA guys have mentioned that there are SEVERAL places better and I have one name and I don't know if that's the name of a city or a woman or restaurant or even you trying to wrongly spell the name of a car, so if you could flesh this out a bit for those of us who are unfamiliar with the various gas stations that serve catfish in NEA that are better than Catfish Hole it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you had ever been out of Benton County, you would know that Portia is a town in the Mother of Counties, and that the Dairy King is the place to go for catfish. In fact, I'd be more than happy to buy your meal there, should you ever leave Benton County.

Sounds like more of a trap or ambush than a dinner invitation. Hate to be that way.  Think I'll just stay home and go eat catfish slathered in the best tartar sauce I've personally ever eaten at the catfish hole tonight rather than show up at a gas station where a bunch of Portia toughs and punks try to beat me up.  Oldest trick in the book. No thank you.
