I didn't realize our backs were so bad...  ;)

interesting he mentioned that about Wilson being the OU backup, I told someone that last night. Sure is nice to have to have two capable QB's on the team.

Steef

No biggee.

We sound like that...to them.

Some of what he said was true to a point. Our O-Line didn't make much glimmer for a running game. Coach'll work on that between now & Georgia.

But....either we are all crazy...or the world just doesn't understand the blitz of TD's that's comin' their way via Air Ryan.

So many receivers. So few downs to throw to 'em.   :)

Can we just forfeit now and save ourselves the embarassment?   ???

no joke, they beat a stuff team and suddenly we don't look so tough. i guess when you lost to arkansas state beating someone by 30+ points makes you feel like a world beater. those ags are in for a rude awakening when they face us. we are going to curbstomp them.

After he states that Mallett was on the run 1/2 of the night, I considered this an over zealous fan who is peeing his pants after seeing us.....and then his team and understanding the true butt kickin coming to his team in Arlington.....I also stopped reading his crap.....who the f cares what he thinks

If they can't take Arkansas State, what makes them think they can handle the University of Arkansas?

OMG! I hope wingo breaks some guys ankles when he jukes, and michael smith will put up at least 150 on them...its gonna be a long day for that fan....

cardinalandwhite

We can't run the ball.  Good thing he didn't tell Michael Smith last year, because in his ignorance he just outrushed everyone in the SEC but Moreno.  And if they recruited Wingo, this moron would talk about how he is the best back since Doak Walker!

If that guy really is a doctor I'll be sure not to go anywhere near his clinic, if he sucks as bad at diagnosing as he does at critiquing our football team then he's a malpractice suit waiting to happen.

our RB's suck, based off one game of vanilla offense, unreal.

BP even said they were sticking 8 in the box, daring us to throw, which we did, with great success. We had to run a few running plays even when we normally wouldn't because of what Mo. St. was doing on defense. The Ags can pick their poision, be run over or thrown over, or a little of both.

hawgsav1

It's always interesting to get an opponent's perspective.  While I don't think our run game *sucks*, that scouting report was pretty good.  Our OL didn't seem to get a good push all game and there weren't many holes opened up.  Our pass blocking wasn't as bad as he made it out to be, but it still had holes.

Michael Smith is still our best option at RB, as he said, and while I wouldn't say it the way he said it, Broderick Green did not look as impressive as he could have.  His impression of the rest of our RBs was rather off base.  I don't know how he thought DJ was slow, and I don't know where he got Knile Davis and Ronnie Wingo being 'overrated'.  Davis had one carry the entire game, and it went for 15 yards.  Wingo was our leading rusher that game, getting 8 carries for 50 yards, which is certainly not a bad average.  I definitely think that Michael Smith needs more carries, and Broderick Green may be limited in his carries if he does not run to get the tough yards.

His assessment of our special teams was pretty spot on.  While we are improved from last year, we are still in need of major improvement.

THIS Aggie booster's analysis needs to be posted in our running backs conference room!

I'm certainly not a coach or football guru but how can you make an assessment on a team when that team didn't show you what they can do.  Michael Smith had five or six carries, other rushes being split among the other running backs, defense was hard to figure out who was in and out so many substitions were being made.  Mallett pulled from the game early, etc. etc. I think Coach Petrino knew this game was won and he ran a lot of basic plays to see what various players could do and to give them some playing time.  More of a training game than a football game for him.

By the way, my grandson plays for Chaffin in Ft Smith and his team has a ninth grader that  consistantly kicks the ball into the end zone every kick off.   I know they kick off from what the 40, but still might be worth watching in four more years.

Yep.  This was like an extra scrimmage where they kept score.

MojaveJoe

I think that's what the poster failed to understand. I think we kept pounding Green to see what he could do, not because we thought he was the best back. I think his assement of RM was spot on, he really is good and you don't need high levels of competition to see that. But, I never saw RM under that much pressure and you can tell he doesn't know the team he "scouted" by saying we have a true 2 qb system running up here. That's bs, RM is the man for sure.

razorback44

Did the guy really truly even watch the game??  Mallett was hardly ever pressured when he was throwing the ball and he states that Michael Smith sucked at running the ball last night.  I think 4 rushes for 43 yards makes our OL look damn good.  What an idiot.

Try to keep in mind he is an Aggie.  They can't help it.

zero sacks. Mo St. only came close once, and Mallett improv'd on that play and got a 1st down.
Not to mention, Mallett is very comfortable standing in the pocket, looking down the barrel of the gun (the blitz), and fire bullets with his right arm down the field. (show the Aggies what our AR-15 looks like)

RedSoxFan

"We'll get pressure on Mallett and when you do he makes horrible decisions.
Michigan looked 10x better this year without him."

so last year if they had him they would of been even worse??? that bodes well for that comment i assume.

these fans that make the assumptions that Arkansas is so awful, i guess we need to consider the source of mediocrity.... for one.. wasn't Sherman ran outta the NFL??? and is he really gonna turn around a team that lost to ASU last year... people can be really dumb in their opinions of breaking down games... if this guy gets paid to do his breakdowns of teams i would seriously be asking for my money back,.

I really liked his scouting report, and I hope copies of it are passed out to the entire aggie team and coaching staff.  Read thoroughly, memorized, and recited before bed time each night...

...every night....

....until game day....

....when we run the ball down their throats with our 'no talent' and 'no speed' RB's and have them screaming 'IN COOOMMINNNGGG!!!" and throwing themselves on the ground every time Mallet and Wilson go to the air during another one of their 'bad decisions' when the the TA&M 'brings pressure.'

All those old Aggie jokes from when I was a kid make so much more sense now.

Idiot lol.  And I'm just fine with that.

These are Aggies were talking about right?

I don't know what to think about this "analysis" but I pretty much figured out the "analyst" when he said Ryan Mallett was on the run most of the night.  I was there and I was actually hoping I might see Ryan have to move around in the pocket just for some more experience.

It's interesting how he compares our starting senior rb (who finished 2nd in the SEC in rushing) to their back who has played one game outside of high school.  He uses that same rational to condemn two freshmen who ran pretty well against nine in the box.

jackflash

With our WR and QB they will have to start defending the pass. Which means no 8-9 fronts. If they don't you will more of the same, easy scoring?

regi

Stopped reading after he said Mallet didn't have much protection and was hurried half the time. WTH? He wasn't watching the same game I watched.

Michael Smith was used sparingly.  The pass/run balance should look better from now on, unless a team sells out to either pass or run the whole game.  Bobby has said he's going to take what defenses give him.

It's a good point. Last year teams knew we didn't really have what could be termed a "prolific" passing game, though it turned out to be a lot better than I expected. We had a RB that rushed for over 1,000 yards in the SEC...a pretty big accomplishment.

Mo State comes out determined to stop/limit the rush, thus all of the 8 and 9 man fronts all night.

BP's offense is predicated on being unpredictable and taking whatever the defense gives you. They gave us a greater opportunity to throw and we did and they paid for that. Had they run a straight 4-3 or tried to run a 3-4 and put more emphasis on pass defense, we would have still thrown for a ton but probably would have seen another 100 yards in rushing.

All that being said, I do want to see our OL step up and not only show that they are a great pass blocking line, but a dominating run blocking line as well. I didn't get to see the game, so I can't really judge how well or how poorly they truly did run block. What I hope is just what I said above, that we just took what the defense gave us and that accounts for the major diff between the pass and run yardage.

We'll beat A&M and I hope we rush for at least 185 yards on them.

The weaknesses this guy points out are there, even tough he did exaggerate them.  I didn't see Mallet hurried as he states.  Run blocking does need to improve tremendously.
that said, best start and balance for a Razorback team in years.  Get your shades, the future looks bright!

+1  I love the AR-15 comment.  He is a weapon.  Hope we can set him to full auto for the UGA game.

TNhawgfan

Not only do our RBs not run "with any purpose," but apparently Wingo has "no talent." I guess that's why Mizzou and other schools were so high on him...because of his lack of D1 talent

Later in the thread, this guy went on to say he wasn't "convinced" they would beat us.  I think his review of us was to give a little hope to the poor Ags.....can't blame him there.  He sounds scared of us.  WPS!

Wilson floated a deep comeback on the sideline.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Technically maybe.  But Moreno needed 4 more games to surpass Mighty Mike's numbers last year.  Mike played in 10 games, KM played in 14.

want2be

This was like a pre season NFL game for Petrino. He was strictly testing the waters. Our biggest problem on offense is our Oline is not getting the push on short yardage. Petrino is going to have to be creative on his short yardage play calling.

If we don't run for 200 yards against A&M we will pass for 400 yds. But I would actually like to see both.

There were also a lot of missed blocks that resulted in our running backs being hit in the backfield.
Two come into mind, one from DJ Williams and from Matt Hall.
I'm sure that will be corrected though.

Tyler Wilson was intercepted on a diving catch on the sideline.  Not a really bad throw, but just a great play by the Mo. State defender.
