SEC coach getting ready to play for the title get's an offer for his dream job... hum didn't we see this last year?

Urban would be as screwed leaving Florida for ND as Stoops would have been leaving OU for Florida or Ohio State or Saban could have been if Alabama went 6-6 this year. No Shame fans would be expecting a national title run in 2 or 3 years and even if he pulls off a few 11-2 seasons if he doesn't beat USC fans will be asking why he couldn't do with Notre Dame talent what he did at Florida.

Urban is doing what any other coach is doing in the right situation, saying the right things and then going ahead with game planning and shooting 18 while waiting for a call from his agent.

Florida could call his bluff, but it's too close to the Ron Zook era for them to.

If private citizens decide to spend their money on a football coach, you need to STFU and mind your own business.  The state needs to cut it's budget and quit wasting so much of OUR money.

"STFU?"  Now THAT'S the Christmas Spirit!

I'm not surprised by this at all.

What else is left for Meyer to accomplish at Florida? He's either going to play for or win two national titles in 4 years. So what if he wins three in six years? Been there, done that. Plus he spends year after year fighting it out in the SEC, and make no mistake about it....sooner or later Florida fans will tire of Meyer. All fan bases tire of coaches sooner or later. It's human. Familiarity breeds contempt.

But if he can go to Notre Dame and return them to their glory days...THAT would be an accomplishment. That would be a challenge worthy of a great football coach. The Irish have been down awhile, but there is a lot of history in South Bend and people WANT them to be good. Plus, no conference affiliation and their own television network.

Their own TV network. Gee, I can't imagine a coach wanting to work in that environment.

ND could provide Meyer with the contract that trumps all contracts.

He also just sent the message, loud and clear, that negotiations can begin immediately (start date to be determined). Meyer, Saban, Stoops...these type of coaches don't publically interview. Not like Dan Mullen had to interview for the MSU job, with everyone and his pet gerbil out talking him up. Meyer just said to ND, "I'm your guy, just tell me when we start."

I wonder if old Charlie goes to Hawaii for the Bowl and decides he likes it so much he negotiates a settlement and we see Meyer in South Bend next fall. Nah, that'd be too "right" for ND.

I don't worry about Petrino. He's either our coach or he's not. However, he opened a lot of (important) eyes regarding how top coaches do their job. We'll not "settle" for an underachiever in hiring his replacement.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. I have to disagree with the statement "what else is left."  There's a lot to be said about a coach who builds a legacy, stays somewhere for a long time, and wins a whole lot of games.  Maybe we live in a different time, but a legacy is something that lasts forever.  That being said, I think Meyer just sent a loud, clear signal about his intentions.

What if the OC knew meyer was leaving after the bowl. Meyer might have told him get out while you can and make some money.

To get rid of Weis under his current contract ND would have to pay him his weight in gold. OK. Maybe not quite that much
but several million.

HogHillbilly

Urban is a big name Coach right now............Add that to a big name School like Notre Dame..............Recruits would be knocking down the Irish doors to get in there
Pain heals.......Chicks dig scars.......Glory lasts forever.......GHG

Several million? I had to read that again, thinking you said seven million.

And what is that to ND with their boosters nationwide? No amount is too large there. Money will be no problem at Touchdown Jesus's residence.

QuoteIf private citizens decide to spend their money on a football coach, you need to STFU and mind your own business.  The state needs to cut it's budget and quit wasting so much of OUR money.

If private citizens/taxpayers are being asked to bailout states that can find money for football coaches, then it is our business.

The New York Yankees are having this problem right now.  They "need" help with the new stadium from NYC and the state.  Both NYC and the state are having serious financial problems right now, though.  Meanwhile, the Yankees can find hundreds of millions of dollars for pitchers.  Do you think it's the people's business how much the Yankees spend on a pitcher right now?

As far as who is "throwing money around," look no further than the athletic departments of these schools.  They are state funded institutions but we have Tennessee, Auburn, and Clemson all signing coaches to large buyouts only to fire them a year later.  Now, some of those states are going to plead poverty to the federal government?  Really?  If Auburn can find tens of millions in private donations for football coaches, then the state of Alabama can spend the money it gives to Auburn on something else.

This applies to the local level, too.  People say that it's not my business what a local school district spends it's money on.  Au contraire.  There's a school district that may or may not be east of Fayetteville that is on the verge of having their sports teams shut down because they don't want to spend money on classrooms.  If they have money for sports, then they should have money for academics.

If it's tax money, then you have a voice.

If it's private money (such as an athletic foundation), then you only get a voice if you donate.

It's a simple, nonsocialist concept.

Courts have ruled differently in the past.  They've ruled almost without exception that an entity that would not exist without the existence of a public institution is subject to public scrutiny.

Today's kids want to play in warm weather and look at scantily clad females on the beach, not live in a winter wonderland (South Bend).  Notre lame will NEVER be what they were.  Never.
Dont kid yourself. ND still pulls in a lot of talent nationally. Look at the past few recruiting classes. Which is evidence that Weiss is a terrible coach.

Agreeance. He placed this comment for two reasons.  I am available for ND job, if you want me.  And "It's gonna cost somebody" Cause I want NFL type money - Five mil for five years.

What does that mean?

Well that settles it... I mean we all know that courts never get anything wrong...
