I noticed Rueben Randle had been bumped up to the #1 player in the nation according to rivals....with speculations of Randle actually having a little interest in Arkansas, has he named any actually leaders in recruitment?

Beaverfever

Whats the deal with everyone talking about Randle?  We have NO shot.  I think he set up 5 visits and we weren't one.

Well, there's why he was bumped to #1.

Actually if you watched him play you'd understand why he is #1.  He was a one man show against Dollarway this year.

Anyone recruiting him needs to be very careful. I live twenty miles from Bastrop and the tales coming out of there make you go, "Hmmmmm?"

I will say that Nick Saban and Bob Stoops both showed up at the dad's place of work this week. I talked to an eye witness. He said Saban walked in the door only to find Stoops already sitting in the office of the Toyota dealership the dad works for.

It is between Bama and LSU for him.

I got the feeling when Randle took his official to Norman, his recruitment could be handled similar to Gabe Lynn's -- meaning dad is really putting the schools through their paces (not in a bad way).
One thing dad told a reporter, aside from academics, was his son wants to go somewhere with a good QB situation and wide open offense. I'm not sure which one that benefits most between LSU and Alabama.

I just Rueben Randle!

This comparison should tell you all you need to know about what offense benefits a WR more:

Julio Jones, for all his talent, finished with 51 receptions, 847 yds, and 4 TD's with a very experienced SR QB at Bama

Brandon Lafell had 61 receptions for 903 yds and 8 TDs with a very in-experienced freshman QB at LSU.

The numbers don't lie on opportunity for receivers.

Marcus Monk had 50 receptions for 962 yards and 11 touchdowns with a true freshman QB and a true sophomore QB in 2006.

Does that mean Houston Nutt's system provides an even better opportunity for receivers?  Hahahahahaha... right.  Figures don't lie, but liars can figure.

Now Bobby Petrino has shown the ability to FEED THE STUDS.  Look at the turn around for DJ Williams in a year.  He went from 5 receptions to 61 receptions from his freshman to sophomore years.

Neither of them.

Sounds like Arkansas would be a heckuva fit, though.  ;)

I've watched teams coached by Saban and Miles up close and personal for 9 years now. Saban is, by far, a lot more conservative offensively than Miles is. So, yes, a WR, has more opportunities to "touch" the ball in the LSU offense than the Bama offense.

Now if you want to talk defense that is a whole different story. Saban's teams are quite a bit more aggressive defensively than Miles teams are.

If he is looking for a wide open offense then he will go to Oklahoma who has the best offense in the nation.

That's the program that nobody talks about, but in the end may very well get Rueben Randle.

I hate it because Bob Stoops may be the most arrogant jerk in the country I hope Floride beats the crap out of OU in the championship so everyone will see that the SEC is still the beast of college football.

I don't care what kind of system you have set in place if you have a sub par QB your system can't strive in the SEC.  AL fans will see next year just like LSU did this year and if Bradford leaves this year OU will be in the same boat.

SemperHawg

I don't think he goes to Bama based mainly on the factor of Julio Jones is pretty much the big dog down there right now, and has, what, 2 more years before he can go pro?  Lately it seems that guys of Randle's caliber only go to places where they can be the "Go to Guy" right off the bat. But who knows.

It'll either be AL or LSU......

I don't know how reliable the guy Dandy Don is, he says LSU and Ala are the top 2 right now, but OU is still in it. If Bradford stays that has to help OU, who is also losing their leading WR after this season.
If Jordan Jefferson can show something in the bowl game against Ga Tech, I think that goes a long way in helping LSU.
Honestly, not sure what a WR sees in Alabama.
I looked at their roster, and it shows seven players listed as QB, and the best they had to put on the field was JPW. I know they have A.J. McCarron coming in the '09 class, but I doubt he's ready to play in '09 as a true frosh.
Julio Jones had 51 catches on a team that had only three WR with at least 10 catches and thrown by a SR QB — that's not exactly what I'd call a wide-open offense, and it won't be next year either.

Dandy Don is a LSU fan with a web-site. He has contacts around the state and people that follow LSU recruiting send him tidbits through emails. Other than that he doesn't really have any more information than anyone else that really follows LSU football extremely close.

This is the latest on Rueben:

All the "insiders" feel it is a two-team race between LSU & Bama, but OU does have an outside shot. Rueben was in Baton Rouge this week with his father and met with the coaching staff. Nick Saban was in Bastrop earlier in the week for his in-home visit before RR and his father went down to Baton Rouge.

If RR choses OU it won't be because of Bradford, because Bradford will either be gone or will at most only have one season with RR. He will chose OU because of Stoops and the offense they run up there.

It's going to go down to NSD with RR and right now it is anyone's guess on where he goes between LSU, Bama, and OU.

A interesting side note to the RR recruitment is the recruitment of WR Kendall Kelly from Gadsden, AL who is the #5 ranked player in the state of AL. He is telling the Bama and LSU coaching staffs that he will most likely sign with the program that doesn't sign RR.

Dragon I

I think OU is the biggest threat for Randle.  The WR's they have are putting up crazy numbers, and if Bradford comes back, Randle could go nuts in that offense.

The reason I think OU is still in it more than some "insiders" might think, it was Randle who re-established substantial contact with OU. Stoops & Co. had moved on at WR, thinking they were out of it for Randle, then his father contacted the coaches.
Also, I don't know it if was the same "insiders" who said JaMarcus McFarland was down to Texas and LSU.
Don't get me wrong, not predicting OU gets either, but if they get one, I would guess McFarland before Randle.

Our "insiders" were saying we were outside looking in with McFarland for a long time. They were saying we were the darkhorse since September.

The key on how serious any recruit really is in your program is: Does their Father, Mother, or primary guardian escort them on their visit to your program. How often does the parent talk with the coaching staff? If you don't get the parent on visits, then the odds are you aren't going to get the prospect.

McFarland's Mother and Grandmother were all over his visits to Austin and Norman and it took an act of God for McFarland to finally get his mother to go with him to BR. His Grandmother went with him and his mother on his visits to Austin and Norman. She did not on his visit to BR. Those were very telling signs on his "true" intentions.

As to Randle, his father has gone with him to BR several times and went with him to Tuscaloosa. No father on the visit to Miami, only the older brother. That was a fun trip and not a "business" trip. Therefore Miami was basically out. I don't know if his father went with him to Norman or not, but if he didn't, then odds are that OU is on the outside looking in as well. Randle's father is a huge influence on where RR ends up going.

That's because Miles is bat crazy.

I agree, Randle is like Gabe Lynn in the sense that their fathers will play a dominant role in where their sons end up going to school. Randle's dad went to Norman with him and I'm told he's still in contact with coaches there.

What I'm saying about McFarland is, there was never any indication it was a only two-horse race between LSU & Texas, despite Texas and LSU "insiders" both saying until at least late September that it was down to those two schools.

That's not a broadside at you. I know it's been quite awhile since you said you thought it was between LSU & Texas, and if I remember you said you thought he'd end up at Texas.

I certainly don't think OU is the favorite for Randle, just that OU is likely under more consideration than some folks concede. If I had to make an uneducated guess on where he ends up, I'd say LSU.
