Orlando Sentinel story said that among 574 players signed by the state's five I-A football programs, 85 never made it to campus, or 15%.  South Florida 28, Miami 19, Florida State 17, UCF 12, Florida 9.

UCF signed 29 players in 2001, and only seven of them stuck around to become seniors.

Using the same methodology, here are Arkansas' numbers:

125 players signed
23 no-shows
18% no-show rate

The story is a little unfair, in that South Florida is the only program that oversigned, taking gambles on academic marginals and trying to manage the final numbers to the allowed 25.  Arkansas also oversigned in 2004.  Take away the six oversigns (including two grayshirts) and the no-show rate goes to 14%.  That's similar to Miami and Florida State.

If you include the 2000 recruiting class (28 signed, 11 no-shows), doesn't look so good.  Thank goodness we are past the effects of that.  Big reason why I think last year was the bottom.
