Georgia will play next Thursday [and four wins later [you] are in the Big Dance].

Basically, if Georgia upsets Arkansas, then it will get the sixth seed [FWIW].

Georgia at this point is barely out of the 68-team field, if you believe the projections. The Bulldogs rank 51st in the RPI as of Thursday morning, and have perhaps the most straight-line resume' of anybody in the tournament: Barely one top 50 win (over Vanderbilt, currently 49th), and barely one loss to a sub-top 100 team (Oakland, which is 104th.)

Most years, Georgia would have a lot of work left to do, but the bubble is very weak this year. [Don't stop believin'.]

According to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi, however, this week's action in Nashville, Tenn., should have little bearing on which SEC squads make the March Madness cut. Lunardi thinks the field is all but set at five teams: Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

"I think Vandy is in," Lunardi said. "They could be in a situation where they have to go to the First Four again, where they're played other times. And there has certainly been a lot of SEC representation at the First Four over the years. But when I look at it, I don't think there really is a bubble in the SEC at this point."

The Commodores won five of their past six games, including a 73-71 upset of the Gators on Saturday, and are among the "last four byes" in Lunardi's latest bracket. They also check in at No. 44 in the RPI rankings.

As for a fringe team like Georgia improving its standing with an SEC tourney run, Lunardi thinks that's unlikely —

Conference leader Kentucky, projected as the South Region's No. 2 seed by Lunardi, struggled to play complete games all season. Some media folks think that inconsistency could have the Wildcats destined for an early tourney exit.
