"Lose" a scholarship or have it stop being used?  Arkansas already has some freed up with the transfers of guys like Turner, Tavarres and Buchanan.

Simple percentages suggest at least one or two guys won't make it to campus from this class.

Bielema isn't about to have to just start dumping scholarships like Saban is.

I think the point is that if we do indeed have to free up some scholarship room, it likely won't be a 4 or 5 star kid that entered on the top of our talent pool.  The guys that will be asked to leave from Bama, will have likely had their choice of schools to attend out of high school.  You keep stuff like this in your hip pocket.

AuburnUndercover spoke to former collegiate coaches about the stresses of managing the commitment numbers of a signing class as the cycle comes to an end.

Jenkins, tight end A.J. Branisel and defensive tackle Trevarris Saulsberry are all slated to miss the spring season, coach Butch Jones said.

Jenkins redshirted after dealing with persistent setbacks in his first year. He rarely practiced and spent most of time doing rehab.

Sophomore Jason Carr is now listed as an offensive tackle, giving the Vols a projected 11 scholarship offensive linemen in 2014 and a projected 17 scholarship defensive linemen.

We've also deleted JaRon Toney from the scholarship roster. Unofficially, UT has 82 players on scholarship, although that number is impossible to verify. If all goes as planned, expect one, two or three current walk-ons to be placed on scholarship by August.

Finally, the changes have shifted the geographic midpoint of the Vols' scholarship roster to Calhoun, Ga. Why does that sound familiar? It's the hometown of former Vol receiver Da'Rick Rogers.

Parker McLeod knew this was a possibility. When the former three-star quarterback prospect enrolled at Alabama in 2013, he understood that he would be fighting tooth and nail for playing time.

Nick Saban told reporters at the SEC meetings in Destin, Florida, that McLeod had been given clearance to look around for another school to transfer to this offseason.

Two UK football players won't return to the team this fall. Sophomore safety Josh Harris will transfer, and fifth-year senior defensive end Alvin Davis, Jr. will forgo his final season of eligibility.

Florida redshirt sophomore tight end Colin Thompson will leave the program after repetitive foot injuries kept him off the playing field in his first two years on campus. Thompson was removed from the team's official roster this spring, but head coach Will Muschamp indicated Thompson was still seeking a second opinion on his health. Thanks to a glut of talent at the tight end position at State ... Artimas Samuel is no longer a member of the Bulldogs football team.

The Bulldogs will still have depth at the tight end position even with Samuel not on the roster. MSU has seniors Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Hill, sophomore Gus Walley and redshirt freshman B.J. Hammond at tight end. They also welcome junior college transfer Darrion Hutcherson into the fold.

Samuel was a three-star member of the Bulldogs' 2012 recruiting class.  He picked MSU over offers from, among others, Alabama, Auburn Arkansas (sic), Clemson, LSU, Miami, South Carolina and USC.

Reported that former Florida tight end Colin Thompson will transfer to Temple to finish out his football career. Thompson was unable to get medically cleared at Florida and received a medical hardship waiver from the SEC after suffering repetitive foot injuries that sidelined him for most of his two years in Gainesville. Thompson played in three games for Florida in 2013 before a foot injury forced him off the field again.

A&M defensive lineman Gavin Stansbury has left the team to attend to personal matters, football coach Kevin Sumlin announced Monday.

In May, he was in a Houston court defending himself after being charged with assualt (sic). Police said he punched a student in a Rice University dorm on March 16. He is claiming that he wasn't on campus and it's a case of mistaken identity.

Stansbury, a 6-4, 257-pound senior from Franklin, La., played in 10 games a year ago, recording 47 total tackles and three sacks. As a sophomore in 2012, he saw action in 11 games and recorded nine tackles with seven assists and a forced fumble.

"While we will miss Gavin being a part of our program, there is more to life than football," Sumlin said. "We wish him the best as he focuses on the personal issues ahead of him."

Sumlin also confirmed the arrest of defensive back Victor Davis, a 6-0, 194-pound freshman from Rosenburg, on a shoplifting charge in his hometown recently.

Defensive lineman Trent Simpson will transfer Mullen said on Thursday. Simpson practiced with the team in the spring but was also hampered by injuries. He redshirted last year as a freshman. Mullen said Simpson will focus on baseball at his next school.

Mullen also commented on linebacker Ferlando Bohanna, whose name is not on the roster, but he will be on the sideline. Two concussions last year ended his season and his career in Starkville as a player. But he is with the team this year as a student-assistant coach.

Bohanna held the same role during practices in the spring.

"It was a great discussion he and I sitting down and saying, he's much more comfortable medical reshirting, playing out his last year as a coach," Mullen said.

Tennessee's Butch Jones Appears To Be The Latest Coach Showing Players The Door http://dlvr.it/7qdHmK

Tennessee's program is hemorrhaging transfers at the moment.  This weekend Butch Jones announced the impending departures of freshmen Daniel Helm (tight end), Dewayne Hendrix (defensive end) and Derrell Scott (running back).  Freshman D-lineman Joe Henderson is leaving too, though he was away from the team for much of his freshman year due to NCAA eligibility issues.

Look up the numbers on those four and you'll quickly realize that none were major contributors for the uber-young Volunteers in 2014.  They played a bit but they didn't gain many yards or make many tackles.  Meanwhile, Tennessee's recruiting class has ranked in the national top 10 of most polls for that past three months.  The Vols are a hot name according to most experts.  But the Vols' list of commitments has had more names on it than the UT roster has had holes on it.

Hmmm.

Ya don't think some of those freshman above were told that their playing time might shrink in coming seasons, do you?  As a gentle encouragement that their services are no longer needed?  In order to open up slots for better recruits in greater positions of need next season?

Two of the four players transferring out -- Henderson and Hendrix -- are defensive linemen.  Check the Volunteers' current list of commitments and you'll find six ends and tackles including three four-star players and a five-star prospect.  You do the math...
