I was reading a USA Today article (Link below) over today over the recruitment of 5* PG Trae Young who recently committed to OU (from Norman), with offers from KU, KY and everybody. He was going through all his finalist and listing pros and cons It was interesting to see what he and his mom mentioned as cons for KY. This is Trae Young speaking:

"The other con is that, going there (Kentucky), if you're not a one-and-done you're looked at differently. Like you weren't built for Kentucky or something like that. I didn't like that."

Ray (Trae's father) conceded that point.

He said to be successful in the NBA it's more about going when you're ready and less about being one-and-done."

Also mentioned that apparently KY has old sub-par dorms, and worse than all his other finalist schools, including TxTech and OkSt. Here's hoping the ruthless NBA machine Cal works at the kids might be starting to see through it. Just churning kids through instead of developing them. I admire what he has done but doesn't seem sustainable.

They don't get them all but they will still get their share. I wouldn't read anything into ONE kid deciding to stay instate and play.

Maybe Mizzou student section say it best, "CAL YOU SUCK..." LOL!!!

He is clearly annoyed by the chant as he walks out on his halftime interview. Simply, priceless! LOL!!

Have look...

Lol at ky's dorms being old.  They are like a high end hotel and I think they have thier own chief. Kansas recently did the same thing.  These kids live like kings.
Sometimes wrong, but never in doubt

Calipari asked him to sign early he said no, Cal got Quade Green who other players wanted to play with and now has an unbelievable class coming in.  Trey didn't want to compete.  Cal has the top class already and will add more.

I saw the special on it.  Your spot on.  They get away with it because they have a select number of non-athletes that live there, but every basketball player lives there and they do indeed have their own kitchen and chef.

Saw it live. Cal was so pissed that he walked off without responding to the girl doing the halftime interview when she asked him if he could hear the students chant. Awesome.

And yet they'll still pull in a stupid amount of talent. Not every kid has parents that can help them wade through the bullcrap that is UK. It's a basketball factory that's become a stain on the game.

Come on Mountie.  Any time there's an article on Cal or KY with some negative connotation you've got the come-back excuse at the ready.  Sometimes you actually whiff on a kid - even Cal.

Wait, a kid actually not only stayed in state but stayed in town to play? Kids do that?

Its the same thing he did with Monk...  Commit or he has to move on...  Cant be left with an empty class and since signing Green others have jumped on board.

What a contrast. He is normally, amazingly smug for the camera and wont shut up when leading by a big margin...haha!!

So do you think he was peeved at the students or peeved at the reporter for asking him to comment on what the students were doing i.e. having to acknowledge what they were saying as if to give it legitimacy.

He may have been mad about how his team was playing. They were tied with Mizzu into the 2nd half.

In his post game presser he said when they are on the road if the home fans are not booing him, it is time for him to retire or be fired.

I will answer your question this way...Did u see his reaction the moment he realized what they (the students) were saying? He was starting to answer her initial question. Post that, she then ask him, "what  he thought of the student section"..Her second question was just salt in the wound...

Cal with no comeback? Come on...

Just curious, has there EVER been anyone he wanted that he didn't get?

Sure.  But Cal has finally found a rules structure that favors him, so he plays the rigged game the way its rigged.

I don't like it, and really don't like him-- but it works.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I don't think it's that Trey didn't want to compete, just recognized that it wasn't a good fit for him. He isn't going to be a one-and-done, and not from lack of skill, he just needs his body to develop for a couple more years before he's going to be NBA ready. He has a legitimate point that KY is set up to build a team around one-and-dones and the developmental guys can get a little lost in the shuffle.

Also doesn't mean much about KY, though. They're still going to pull in a great class and be contenders unless something breaks down/changes with Cal's system. I was surprised that Young decided to stay in Norman instead of going to Kansas, though. OU's arena sucks and the crowd support is awful (and most people on campus won't disagree with either point). They couldn't pull decent crowds even last year with a team that eventually made the Final Four.

Nice to see a kid stay loyal to his state. Wish more of Arkansas players had more home-state loyalty.

The awful thing is there was just as much blue in the stands as gold...  Mizzou cannot even sell out for UK.  But it was there largest attendance of the year of over 10,000  on a Tuesday night....
