The Hogs added their 14th commitment of the 2014 class in New Jersey OF Luke Bonfield.  Looks to profile as a LF for this class as he has 6.8-6.9 type speed and a mid 80s OF velo according to PG.  He has hit very well this summer so far at PG National and WWBA.

Big S/O to my teammate and future roommate @LukeBonfield for committing to the U of A today! This dude is the best hitter I know! #WPS

Noticed that 2014 OF Luke Bonfield had himself a perfect day at the plate going 3/3 with 2 doubles & a single. #PGTourney

Also, PG has Storm Rynard listed as a 2013 grad.  I know he was eligible for the draft this year, but I won't remove him from the 2014 list until he is confirmed to be a member of the 2013.  Anyone have any info on this?

Talking about the 2014 class?  If so, just about every position player committed has a legit present hit tool.

LaValley probably has the most power in his class.  I get the feeling he has more pop than Eibner or Wilkins.  His power tool is probably 70-80 right now.

Spanberger and Ockimey both have legit LH power.

Wiggins has hit everywhere he has been.

Bonfield has torn it up this summer.

This isn't a normal DVH class full of sub 7 guys who might hit for average and little power.  This class has several players who are average at best runners, but will flat out hit and hit with power.  Really hope we get the bulk of them to campus because I know we will suffer a couple of draft causalities because we always do.  If we are lucky enough to keep them all to campus, dang.

Probably should have held this thread off a couple of days.

1st one is their PG class ranking.

2nd one is their PG grade if they have been to a showcase.  Anything grade 9 or higher indicates top 10 round potential.

Of the 6 2014 commits that participated in the PG National Showcase in June, 3 made the top prospect list.

Iowa RHP Keaton McKinney was praised for his improvement on the mound over the past year.  Working in the 90-92 range, McKinney showed excellent command along with the best changeup in his class.

New Jersey OF Luke Bonfield was praised as making the most consistent hard contact at the showcase.  He had 5 hard hit balls in 6 trips during the games.

Kansas OF Jack Benninghoff was praised for his aggressiveness at the plate and for his strong arm.  He also displays some serious power potential.

The Hogs pick up their 15th commitment of the 2014 class in Fort Smith Southside OF Mark Clark.  Finally a player from Fort Smith good enough to play for the Hogs.  When was the last time that happened?  Was it Lundquist?

In 2013, Mark Clark hit .463 (25-54) with 6 2Bs, 3 3Bs, and 9 HRs.  That means he hit more HRs than singles.  He scored 17 runs and had 24 RBIs.  He drew 5 walks and struck out 5 times.  He stole 2 bases in 18 games.

The Hogs pick up their 16th commitment of the 2014 class in Spring, Texas OF Darien Simms.  Vitello was recruiting him at TCU and it looks like he is blossoming as a player.  PG has him listed a 5-8, 140, but more recent measurements have him at 5-10, 160.

He hit .424 (39-92) this season with 5 doubles and 1 triple.  He scored 48 runs and drove in 16.  He drew 26 walks compared to just 6 Ks.  He also stole 33 bases in 31 games this spring.

Here is his PG profile with a little bit of a description of who he is as a player:

Its on his twitter.  He cites "coaching and recruiting changes" as his reasoning.  He also threw in that he had some work to do on the SAT in talking with some people that were asking for more details.

3 commits made the 17u WWBA All-Tourney Team.

Chad Spanberger had a great week as he hit .692 (9-13) with 3 2Bs and 1 HR.  He had 6 RBIs, scored 3 runs, and walked 5 times.  His OBP was .778 and he slugged 1.154.

Blake Wiggins dominated as he hit .556 (5-9) with 3 2Bs and 2 HRs.  That means all 5 hits went for extra bases which is beyond insane.  He had 7 RBIs, scored 3 runs, and walked 2 times.  His OBP was .583 and he slugged 1.556.  His slugging percentage was probably the top at the tourney.

Luke Bonfield also had a great week as he hit .455 (5-11) with 1 2B and 1 3B.  He had 8 RBIs, scored 2 runs, and drew 3 walks.  His OBP was .471 and his SLG% was .727.

Hi guys! I'm new here and am just looking for some info. Hopefully you guys can help me, if not, maybe you can steer me in the right direction!
I have twin boys that will be Seniors this year (Angleton Texas) and are both awesome baseball players (Both are pitchers, 1 is pitcher/catcher/right field/3rd base, 1 is pitcher/shortstop/2nd base....this one is well know for his infamous, dirty curve ball and is the talk of the town!). We've been playing select since they were 10 and one of my boys played in Cooperstown a few years ago. Our High School is NO help in getting these kids scouted. I have no clue where to even start. My Dad and my Uncle both played Razorback football on scholarship back in the 70's, but Dad is no help in knowing what to do and my Uncle passed in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. Thank you in advance for any help or guidance you can give me!

USA Today released their 2013 All-Oklahoma Team and the Hogs are well represented.  Gavin LaValley and Zack Jackson make the actual team while Tre Edwards and Tyler Spoon make Honorable Mention.  Also making the team was signee Jon Denney who signed with the Red Sox after being their 3rd round pick.

You are kind of behind the ball if you've just started looking for college scholarships now. I know that Angleton isn't exactly the middle of nowhere and they've got a ton of baseball talent in the Houston area, so if your sons have played travel ball at a high level it's possible they've  already been looked at.  The trick is to go to camps left and right by the time they hit high school to try and impress coaches and obviously show huge success on the field during showcase ball. If you haven't done any of this to this point you are running out of options, and your next best bet is probably to put together a video package showcasing their abilities and send it to some smaller schools and see what the response is. Also, don't know where your kids are on the academic front, but that is huge in baseball. With the limited scholarships, the odds at getting a look are better for kids who excel off the field as well. Good luck!

dotnet

Yeah... Unlike football, coaches don't just travel the country looking under every stone for baseball players. That's too muh or only two guys to do. But if they've played at plenty of select tournaments then they were maybe seen.

This late in the game... It may be easier to focus on jucos.

That is what I would think.  Just couldn't find his name listed on one of the rosters.  I always thought Arkansas kids played for the White Sox, but Wiggins was selected on the Yankees roster.

Anyway, this seems to be a banner year for our commits playing in the Area Code Games.  I don't remember ever having this many commits in the ACG.

Angleton, TX ??????  I spent several years at Retrieve Prison farm in that town.
But if you want to be seen they are having a High School camp in Fayetteville next month.  Not sure on the exact date but you could call and check.  There will be a few other colleges there looking for players also.

Most of the time this summer he has been 88-89 and has hit 91.  95 would be a huge jump, but could happen for one pitch.

What have you seen him at?

It will be interesting to see what he and Fant hit in Long Beach as both are LHPs who have been said to hit 95 this summer.

I saw on twitter where Corey Herndon de-committed yesterday and I decided to mark off Luke Bonfield as well.  I do think Bonfield will re-commit once he sits down and talks with his family.

Herndon was the 2nd commit of the 2014 class after Blake Wiggins as he committed in March 2012.

Any reason Corey Herndon de-committed?

Haven't seen a reason, but it could be because of staff recruiting changes much like with Ockimey.  To be honest, he was falling in the rankings quickly and probably wasn't improving like our coaches thought he would.  There are a couple of in-state pitchers who are now rated higher than him who are improving faster and Kyle Pate will certainly shoot above him in the rankings as well.

Just from twitter, it looks like it might have been his father who announced it and it probably happened a while ago because a lot of his re-tweets had to deal with negative impacts to the baseball program.
