I'll be here.  The best i could possibly do is discounted Le Reve tickets.  Depends on how busy they are that week.

Major Payne: Do not attempt to valid my authority. I have eight weeks to turn you gaggling maggots into a well-discipline cadet unit. From this day forward your sorry asses belong to me. You will not eat, sleep, drink, blow your nose or dig in your buts without my say so. Know this, killing is my business, ladies, and business is good.

What a great week... Saw Motley Crüe, Meat Loaf, Elton John and Kid Rock... Ate awesome meals at Hugo Cellar, Mesa Grill, Hash House a Go Go and a lot of little places... Enjoyed the last two days with a ton of Bikers in Town for Bike Fest. Plus got a lot of quality time with the wife.. Can't wait to go back next Spring

Every time I stroll through the board and I come across the title of this thread I think of this.

I guess I should have remembered to put Three Dog Night on my list of "guilty pleasures" in the Movies & Music forum.  Their greatest hits CD is in my car player rotation just about all the time.  Never Been to Spain is one of their best.

I'm sure it's nothing that a $500 retainer can't fix.  Contact JackRabbit Hog for payment instructions.

They did a few good songs. They're hit "Black and White" was the #1 song on the Billboard charts on the day I was born.

Staying at the Venetian.  I've seen them on tv but I want to try a  great buffet.  Any recommendations?

Just going to be tourists.  Taking a helicopter trip over the dam and having a brunch on the floor of the Grand Canyon, blow some bucks in the casinos, just touristy stuff.

Is it legal to walk around with a drink in your hand on the strip?

I think you're out of luck. I hear they don't have any buffets in Vegas :)

Did you say the floor of the Grand Canyon? As in, you're hiking to the bottom? Or maybe you meant riding down on a donkey.

If you're hiking, be prepared for what you're getting into. Seriously. The temps will still be warm this time of year. Could be anywhere from 80 to 90 at the bottom. (temps down there comparable to Phoenix weather). The weather at the rim fools you, much cooler up there. Also, many tourists get lulled into how easy it is walking downhill. Then they turn around and have to climb back out, and things change quickly. It's about 10 miles from the South Rim to the bottom, so a 20 mile roundtrip. So many people get into all kinds of trouble at the Grand Canyon that some former park rangers wrote a book called 'Death in the Grand Canyon'. Interesting read. Not to be overdramatic, but there are lots of tourists, and many strange and unfortunate things happening there...from falls, to raft trip drownings, to dehydrated people, people getting lost on hikes, etc

Helicoter ride to the floor and have brunch there.  Cancelled on us so we didn't do it.
I need to be more like my dog...if you can't fight it, screw it, or eat it, then piss on it.

Oh yeah...that was another chapter in the 'Death in the Grand Canyon' book. Aircraft!
Seems there have been some strange crashes, or plane troubles. Theory is that the Canyon creates its own wind currents, weather, etc. Stuff like that.

So probably well that you didn't make that helicopter ride.

We were looking forward to it.  It is a bit pricy, I think it was $700+ for both of us and it lasted about 3 1/2 hours but we we booked it anyway.  Their website showed it as being available but they contacted us a couple days later and said it was full and they had room on a flight an hour later.  We asked them since we'd already prepaid if it would be the same rate and they said it was another $100 so we just said screw it.  Little disappointed but you reach a point where enough $$ is enough for 3 1/2 deal.

I worked one year in the Canyon.  My friend called (he was manager of the lodge and was desperate for help so I went for the last 3 months of the season.  I was never interested in hiking to the bottom and the mules had a 200 lb limit and I was a little over that but others told me it was awesome.  Nearly every day the rescue guys  would have to go  down and get someone who could not make it back up.   I was told if they had to go and get you at the bottom it was $4000.  Always wondered if that was true.

HognitiveDissonance

The $4000 sounds about right.
I have run/hiked the Rim-to-Rim(24 miles) a couple of times and I've heard numbers to that effect, especially if the helicopter comes to get you.
It seems obvious, but it's clearly underrated. It's a hard trek to haul your carcass out of there. I run all the time and it was very tough for me. Heading up to the South Rim is 10 miles of climb from the bottom.
A common thing for tourists to do is start at the South Rim and hike 1.5 miles down to a popular turnaround; it's downhill and easy walking. Then they turn around and have to come back...

Hope to get back there at some point via a TDY. My next base goes to Nellis AFB, NV for what they call Red Flag and it is butted up to Vegas. Been once already but I definitely want to get back.
If it turns, burns, banks or rolls, crew chiefs made it happen.

We are going in 2 weeks. Staying at the Mandarin Oriental. Thinking about hitting either Love or O for a show, and I want to do one of the drive-a-supercar experiences. Getting my restaurant list updated with some suggestions from this thread.

I've been to both.  In my opinion O is a thousand times better.  When I go to Vegas I like to see a show that "wows" me.  O is one of those shows.  I fell asleep during Love.  Love is more about imagery and costumes and themes of the time of the Beatles.  The people that seem to love it are the guys old enough to remember the Beatles.  My wife and I are not that old.  She still loves the music, just didn't care for the show.

Another show on par (and maybe even better) than O is Le Reve at Wynn.

My wife is really hooked on O (recs from her friends), so thats what we'll do most likely.

I would like Love because I love the Beatles music. But I have no doubt that O is wonderful.

Anyone eaten at the Rao's in Vegas? The original in NYC is legendary.

La Reve at Wynn is the best show I have seen out there and I have seen most of the big ones.

Horsesrus

Absinthe is the best show I've seen followed by Mystere at TI for the Cirque fans.  Absinthe is very raunchy so if you're easily offended do not go.

Junkyard Hog

Headed out Sat and staying at the Wynn for a few days!
