6th or 7th...

But the more important question is, where would this question rank amongst all your other questions?

I'd probably put it in 3rd, just a whisker ahead of Texas Tech.  No way it's better than LSU or Ole Miss in my mind.
I've never wanted a Hog coach to be successful more than I do for Pittman.  He's one of the good guys.

demonHOG1013

#1 Ole Miss, shutting out #8 in the country 30-0 barely ahead of the game of 17's in the LSU win. It would be hard to top those. I'd say #3 unless something just crazy happens.

3rd, behind LSU and Ole Miss and ahead of TTU or NIU, depending on whether you see name or quality of opponent as the deciding factor.

5th. Ahead of Nicholls and UAB. Behind the other 4. LSU and old misses were 1/2. TT was 3rd because it got the attention of the nation, not because tt was good, but because of how the Hogs DOMINATED them and physically beat them into submission.  NIU was 4th just because it showed what a huge gap there is between a team that ended u winning the MAC and a "lowly" 2-6 SEC team. That game was literally over from the opening kickoff, and by half time NIU looked like just another wannabee cashing a check.

Now,a bowl win will be big as a springboard for next season, especially if the Hogs put a beating on the horns.

Not to play devil's advocate, but NIU didn't have their starting QB in that game.  Obviously that wouldn't have helped them on defense, but that kid would have made them a lot better on offense.  As it was...they had nothing.

Exactly.  I've learned my lesson in bowl games.  I'm still hacked that we lost to Mizzou in the Cotton Bowl.  All my friends from Missouri when I lived there for 5 years called in advance of the game talking trash, and I couldn't wait to see DMAC and the gang just run all over them.  I'm not sure who got abused more...our team, or me for all the ribbing I took afterward.

"Well, we didn't have a coach and our team didn't care" didn't seem to resonate like I had hoped it would.   >:(

I agree, it might have been more competitive, but if they had scored more, the Hogs would have scored more. In the end the Hogs would have still won by 21+.

That was the 1st game in my life I ever bet on. When I saw the Hogs were only favored by, I want to say it was 11ish, I could not resist.

Are you going to make this Texas game the second one?  I think the line opened at 4.5, and I heard a few days ago it had already moved up to 5.

Prior to the TCU game, Texas was making some strides.  They beat WVU handily, and handled OSU easily....then total fail against TCU.

I want to believe that they haven't faced a running team like us all season and we'll push 'em around, but in my heart of hearts I just can't picture us doing that to Texas.

What I hope we do is blitz up the middle early and often.  With our threats at DE, and the improvement we've made at LB, I think it's time to take some risks and get this Swoop kid rattled.  Even if we don't get home, let's get him out of the pocket and uncomfortable.  If they burn us...dial it back, but I want us to be the aggressor.

On offense...I would love to see us come out and not even run the ball on the first possession at all.  Just controlled short passes, and make them honor it.  Forget that "We'll run off tackle and show them who's boss."  They can stack the box and stop that, and it will just give them confidence.  Throw to run....

1. LSU
1A. Texas

The losing streak was getting beyond frustrating.
The bowl will leave an important impression on present and future recruits.

I would never touch a bowl game. When teams have 3 or 4 weeks to prepare, or to sit a round and get stale. You never know if their heads or hearts will be in the game either. I THINK the Hogs will be playing like they have something to prove. I only watched 1/2 of 1 texas game, so I do not know what they look like on offense. I know their D got torched with regularity early in the season.

I'm in the same boat.  Their defense is pretty good against the run, but....that's against the run in the Big 12.  It's not the same physical running that we do, so who really knows?  They did give up some long passes, and maybe we can take advantage of that, but stretching the field vertically isn't exactly one of the feathers in our hats.  When our best long pass threat is the TE releasing down the seam...that's not really going to scare many people deep.

I don't envision us running through them like we did TT, but that's what I would love to see.  I really think we'll have to pass effectively to move the ball.  Defensively, I want to think we'll take away their run and make them one dimensional, and they'll give us some gifts with INT's.

But...like you said, and just like Bama showed last season, you better show up and play hard or you can get beat.

#1 LSU : We needed to break the drought and it couldn't have come against a better team.
#2 Ole Miss : We needed another win to be bowl eligible and OM was it.
#3 Texas : Just kick texASS. Tied with LSU for rival satisfaction (if we win).
We need all three for recruiting and the programs improvement.

LSU 1, Ole Miss 2, Tech 3, Texas 4 if it happens...because without the other 3....we are packing up equipment.

So I guess a good healthy quarterback is important. I'm shocked they didn't have a capable one waiting in the wings or at least that's what many on Hogville think. NIU must have lousy coaches.
Hog fan since 1960. So thankful for Sam Pittman.

I voted first because of the significance of a bowl win, especially over Texas. Would help with recruiting and gives a little momentum going into next season.  I hope we shut em out

1. It's a bowl win.

2. Because it's texas.

3. Because it's the final game of the season.

4. Because it's texas.

5. Because we'd go into next season with a victory instead of a loss.

6. Because it's texas.

A win is a win. It's a bowl win. And a good way to start next season and establish recruiting in Texas.

ErieHog

4th or 5th.

Ahead of Nichols State, and UAB.   Probably a slight edge, albeit not far from a coin flip with TTU.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

NLRHog92

Well it's a bowl game and would cap off a winning season with one the hardest schedule in the nation and builds momentum moving forward. Losing doesn't.

Follow-up vote should be by age.  I bet old farts like me pick TX #1 more than rest of board.  Beat Texas and it feels awesome going into last leg of recruiting, offseason, and momentum for next season.  Lose and the whole season leaves a bad aftertaste for everything.

i'm with you on what i hope we do on both sides of the ball, how, and why.  like we did with wallace and sims, we need to hassle swoop all day, whether we get him or not.  and we will.  and we have to do it early in the game.

what i don't want to see is a real intense first defensive effort, holding them to a 3 and out, then follow more conservatively on the second defensive series.  force them to run screens and draws and be ready for it.  this might mean we're giving up some deep coverages, but go for it.

on offense i really hope that when we go to the air, that we've set up the play action and follow with rolling out.
The rest of the frog.

It would be by far the biggest win of the season for a whole lot of reasons.

First.  Only because I hate Texas more than Ole Miss or LSU.   ::hornsdown::

I'm one of the 29 that ranked a win over Texas at first. There is just no better feeling than a Hog win over Texas, never has been, never will be. I remember one year we beat Texas in basketball 3 or 4 times in the same year: in the regular season, in the SWC tourney, and then later in the NCAA tourney. That was a swell year.

That positive vibes from beating Texas would be huge.

I hate the longhorns.   Would be the biggest because I'm an old fart and remember the good ole days and it's our bowl.   It's also important for recruiting.   Don't underestimate the talent on that team in Austin though.  They have very good players.

Choctaw Hog

As the 7th win of the season and a good way to end the season.  Nothing more, nothing less.
