South Point Casino in Las Vegas recently revealed its over/under marks for win totals on all FBS teams.

SEC

    Alabama: 10
    Arkansas: 7.5
    Auburn: 6.5
    Florida: 7.5
    Georgia: 8.5
    Kentucky: 5
    LSU: 10
    Mississippi State: 6.5
    Missouri: 5.5
    Ole Miss: 8.5
    South Carolina: 5
    Tennessee: 9.5
    Texas A&M: 6
    Vanderbilt: 5

Some of these totals differ from the win totals set by the Golden Nugget sports book earlier this month. Saturday Down South previously examined those win totals set for division favorites in the SEC East and West.

Now, who else does South Point have right there with Alabama, LSU and Tennessee?
Power 5

    Clemson: 10.5
    FSU: 9.5
    Michigan: 10
    Notre Dame: 9.5
    Ohio State: 9.5
    Oklahoma: 10

I would take 8 wins right now and be happy, 9 or 10 would be great..  With a new QB..

It's not just a New QB.   Our entire Offense and Defense have some gaping holes that we will have to see if they get filled.  after we actually start playing games.

See?? I TOLD ya'll that slimeVOLs  10.5 was abnormally high. This 9.5 makes much more sense.

I believe the Hogs return 10 starters on Defense.

What if we had a real coach, like HDN?  9+?  Sound about right?

How much is your house worth, do you have any equity in it?

Too much of a stretch. We are only eighth in potential....and that was before the expansion.

You can take the over on Alabama to the bank.

Edit: I had to go look - 5Dimes has the Alabama over 9.5 wins at -140 but is NOT including conf championship or playoff games. That makes more sense and becomes a lot less intriguing/interesting.

They DO have Alabama at +800 for winning the ship, which is a pretty good line.

You're in for a BIG surprise

I sure hope so.  Going on 10 years of season tickets and hope it is out best year ever....but hopes and reality rarely intersect.

I think you just brought illumination to your problem: your "hopes", or expectations, are unrealistic.  When they're not met you see failure.

An 8 or 9 win season this fall would beat that prediction total, AND would be a very good season, though it wouldn't come near being the best year ever.

Can we reasonably expect to reach 8/9 wins this fall? I think so, but it's not a certainty.

But I'll take the over and you take the under for a case of your favorite malted beverage, ok?

If the phrase "defense wins Championships" is true, then the Hogs should do very well this season because in my opinion that appears to be the strength of this team. The offense is still a work in progress so the quicker they gel and start playing well, the better the Hogs chances are of winning 9+ games.

Under. New QB that'll take more risks than BA, special teams I'd bet will still be near the bottom of the SEC, and a defense y'all are giving way too much credit to. Bad start, decent finish. Typical Bielema Hog season.

No Nutt couldn't win with this 2016 group either. I think the next 2 years will look similar to his 2004 ,2005 years. 2018 is when I think we have a chance to get back up to 9 win

This Hog team returns 10 starters on defense and some good depth. If they aren't vastly improved on that side of the ball then something is seriously wrong..

It's great to be returning 9 starters on defense, that certainly helps from an experience standpoint. What will be more important in my opinion is the key measurables in terms of production.

For example, our Secondary had 32 PBU's last season, just 1 less than Alabama's Secondary had last season in 2 more games than we played. But their Secondary acquired 5 more INT's (15) than we did, had 3 Sacks compared to our 1/2 sack and had 6 TFL compared to our 1.5.

Alabama's LB's had 23 PBU's last season compared to our 4 (but no one in the West had more than 7), had 2 INT's to our 1 (pretty normal for the West though Miss St did have 4), had 27 sacks to our 2.5 (second most was Miss St with 13.5) and had 38 TFL compared to our 14.

As for the front 4, Alabama's front four produced 24 PBU's compared to our 7 (and their 24 tremendously surpassed that same number by other play off teams), produced 23 sacks to our 17 and had 38.5 TFL compared to our front four's 35.5.

So there are key measurables on defense that really matter and by reading this, you can tell where we need to pick up the pace in order to play better quality football at a Championship level, which of course, is the only reason that I compared our defense to that of Alabama.

I knew about Gaines but I didn't realize Hodge was a starter. I knew he played a lot though. Thanks for the correction.

That deficit in PBUs from the front seven was a telling stat. Knocking down a pass or two at the LOS can really help a defense. All the great Hog defenses I can remember could do it well.

The athleticism of their LB's in pass coverage is fairly impressive as well, something we need to get better at as a unit. And it wouldn't hurt if our LB's and DE's could pick up more sacks this year as well. Both of those things will help our Secondary.

I agree Guv, but I have a GUT FEELING that the offense will gel  very early. We have the weapons at WR & "IF" we're solid at RB [and I think we will be (Hammond is gonna be a star)] that covers that & AA is gonna do what AA DOES......follow big brother & SHINE!!!! We've got GREAT coaches and I think "THIS" is our year......Rodney Dangerfield, wait till they get a load of us.

2006 a legit SEC West championship....2010 our first BCS game...it hasn't been as bad because you apparently focus on the year that was John L. Smith and the following year of the crap talent he left Bret Bielema. Since Bielema's first year, we have been in every game we played. The days of getting blown out by Alabama are over. Dependent on the QB, this year could be anything from 7-5 to 11-1. If Allen jells and our defense plays up to their potential, we will be tough outs again. I think fans will start growing fond of the Hogs when we travel to Ft Worth and take out the Frogs second game of the season. Also, LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss come to our place.
The long Grey line will never fail our country.
