My wife and I are looking at a 3-4 day getaway and I would like to go into Lousiana or maybe Mississippi.  We live just 10 miles from the LA border down here in El Dog, AR.  I don't want to drive more than 4 hours.  ANy place in this are anyone has been that would be fun for a few nights?

No.  jk... My inlaws spent a couple of nights in Shreveport/Bossier City before continuing on to Galveston a couple of summers ago.  They acted like they had a good time.  I guess it depends on what your looking for a relaxing vacation or casino's or whatever.

I'm actually thinking about going to Vicksburg, MS and maybe on to Jackson, MS.  I know there is some civil war history in Vicksburg.  I went there years ago in high school.  I don't know anything about Jackson, and have never been there.

Try Natchez Mississippi if you like antebellum homes and some nice B and B's.  They also have a small casino boat.

You can also rent a houses or condo's at the lake just outside of Natchez.  The park  is run by the Miss Parks Department.  Very clean and reasonably priced.

Tried fishing (it holds the Largemouth record for Ms.)  and caught a few bass-  mostly brim off the back porch.  Deer in the yard every morning.

We went through Vicksburg when I was about 12.  We took my cousin to get his car at the port in New Orleans.  He was returning from Germany (Army).  My dad wanted out of NO as fast as possible.  From there we headed over to Gulf Port MS.  Went out on some Island in the gulf with a fort on it, that was pretty cool. We came back through Vicksburg.  All I remember about Vicksburg is there was a bomb threat at the hotel and we spend about 3 hours early that morning in the parking lot.

I hadn't thought about Natchez.  It's only a little bit further than Vicksburg.  Looks like V'berg has some nice B&B.  I saw one has a bedroom and a bed that General Grant slept in during the war.

My wife was saying something the other night about Bossier City having a new boardwalk maybe.  She was talking to someone who had been there recently and said it was a lot of fun.  I'll ask her when she gets in and post it.

Your wife is right.  I've been there twice since it's been opened.  It's a GREAT place to go to.  It's full of shops and restaurants.  It even has a Bass Pro Shop.  My wife and I always eat at Joe's Crab Shack before shopping.  I ended up buying shoes at the Nike store and she got hers at the Addidas store.  The riverwalk is quite beautiful at night with the lights and the buildings on the other side of the river...

I don't know anything about Jackson, and have never been there.

in Jackson drive around the city doing at least 20 MPH over the posted speed limit of 65 around loop 220.  DO NOT STOP, I repeat..DO NOT STOP.  ;)

Really there is very little in Jackson..Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in NE Jackson, state capital I guess would be cool.  Otherwise a very unmemorable trip.  If you like the Civil War stuff, yes Vicksburg is a good stop, then south down US 61 to Natchez.

"I'd rather lose a game like that than a 5-4 ballgame when somebody walks in the winning run or makes an error" -MSU's former head coach Ron Polk after South Carolina pummeled the Bulldogs 20-3 on 3/23/2007.

Feb. 20, 2009-a new era in MSU Baseball begins.

Thanks!  I will stay away from there for sure...
