He made a couple great plays tonight. It's nice to see a CB get in the mix and not fall behind everytime.

ricepig

He's still a work in progress, but definitely improving.

Hog Fan from Camden

I thought he looked good tonight.  Hope he keeps improving!

daprospecta

He did look good.  He got beat once but he tracks the ball which I love.

Hogs run wild

excited to see his progression. could be playing on sundays if he keeps improving.
We all got a chicken duck woman thing waiting for us.

Go ahead and give him secondary player of the game in my book. Good to see, I was a little concerned with his athleticism last year, he looks better.

HardingHog

Mr. Pulley really impressed me tonight! The one play that stood out was (I think) his first pass break up where he was essentially left on an island to cover 2 guys on his side of the field, and still broke to the ball perfectly and made the play

Given how thin we are back there, his development will be pivotal to a successful season.

Great job tonight.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Pulley made some good plays.  Smart kid :razorback:

Pulley island.  He played awesome!  I hope they leave him as a boundary corner.

Dominicanhog

He was my pick during our thread about breakout players this year.... He and Tollivar are going to be special, but man we need some more players back there, we are sooo thin.

It's great to see Arkansas with a corner who can stick with a receiver for any amount of time.  Dean and Collins were great in 2014 because Smith could get pressure on the quarterback with just the four down defensive lineman and play the corners in press coverage.  They weren't asked to stick with their assignments for a super long time.

Pulley's ability to do so, even if only occasionally, is a big development for the defense.

micali

He gives me hope we can pass protect against st some of our SEC opponents who like to sling it.

I think we'll see more pressure by the front four as we face less mobile QBs.  You could tell, especially in the first half, they were really trying to contain Hill more than pressure him.

hawgwild child

he is a great looking cb. i remember seeing him at fan day last year thinking he looked like he belonged on the basketball team.  nice to have a big cover corner

I know mobile quarterbacks are always dangerous, but it feels like they always give Arkansas more problems than others.  It'll be nice to see Ledbetter, Agim, Johnson, Wise, Ramsey, etc. line up against a quarterback that isn't so likely to take off in a foot race.

I actually didnt understand why we didnt have a "spy" on Hill.  Ramsay would have been good for this.  That would however have either had us "rush" three or pull a DB for sake of a "spy."

Ryan Pulley competed his butt off on Saturday.

Sorry if already discussed, but did DJ Dean play?  I wasn't able to watch the game.

I don't know if you want to use a defensive lineman as a spy for a QB as athletic as Hill, or even Ellis, but I think Toliver or Hackett may work well in that role because they're decent tacklers too.

One issue with the "keep it in front of you" system is the gap between the defensive line and the coverage can become very large at times and Hill took advantage of it a lot on Saturday.

He showed up on the participation chart, but I don't remember seeing him out there. I asked in another thread because his uniform was real clean in the end of game end zone celebration.

Thanks, Rice.  I'm very happy to see the emergence of Pulley, and hope that his performance stays at a high level.  Depth at CB appeared to take a hit over the last month (Sykes transfer and Richardson injury), so Pulley playing well against a very good spread team is encouraging.  I'd be more encouraged if DJ is ready to play as well.

Yes, this is correct, and our mode for most games we play. We rarely turn our DL loose to rush the passer. We usually are pretty successful when we do except a couple of those Hill runs were the result of letting them loose and the LBs dropping too deep.

Only play I saw him on the field was the hail-mary at the end of the half, interesting enough though before we called the time out I swear that was Dominique Reed heading to Deep safety, I guess they rethought after the TO.

We did fairly frequently, they simply lost contain a number of times.    Just because you do something, doesn't mean it will work.

I would imagine Smith wanted everyone he could get in coverage.  For most of the game, we did a pretty good job at keeping Hill in the pocket, and forcing to have to make the throws.  In the 4th Qtr, for whatever reason, if we were more aggressive, or gassed, or whatever, he finally started getting some running lanes.
