That we are going to be discussing baseball season real early this year with a lot more folks paying attention to this forum than before
Usually in EI where intelligent conversation is required

I have a funny feeling you have an apprehension some fans are going to get turned off on other sports sooner than normal?
Like the erstwhile Clark Kent, my true identity is shielded.  I am an author, Nathan J. Allison is my pen name.

Knot2brite

As long as they bring quality rather than quantity drivel...there is no apprehension ....if they bring some of that BS they are bringing to the others forums....yeah

Baseball may be our saving grace this year.  We should have more than 5 pitchers this year

ErieHog

I think its a double-edged sword.

People may get so irritated by perceived underperformance elsewhere, that even the slightest hints of the typical ups and downs of a baseball season may have them over here, populating ledges to jump off of.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If they come over here with that fire DVH bs they should get booted automatically.  That should be in the EI rules

Honestly we haven't seen much of the Fire DVH crap over here. We have seen the blame game put on the assistants ( namely butler) but most are not going after DVH. But then again it is hard to blast a guy that has gone the NCAA tourney every year he has been here and took a team that no one expected to the CWS last year. We don't generate as much traffic here until NCAA tourney time but it is quality conversation. A lot of people disagree here...but usually it is about strategy or situations. When we lose it isn't a blood bath ( usually) but it is frustrating. We do see the flood gates open during tourney time and the casual bandwagon jumpers can come in here to put their two cents in the game but mostly it is the same old handful of cronies that actually know the game and the team.

There's been tiny smatterings of it, first directed as criticism of his loyalty to Todd Butler, before Butler left.

The past couple of slow starts haven't exactly been the best moments of EI, either.  I could easily picture an influx of barbarians being out there, tossing out 'Fire DVH' stuff, if we aren't great out of the gate.

Last year was brutal at the beginning....and then...amazing. Hopefully we will start fast and stay the course. Of course there will be some less than intelligent conversation here. I have even dabbled in that myself. I try very very hard not to though....I fail sometimes

Thankfully this board is well moderated.

Looking forward to the 2016 baseball season.

There are definitely times when the forum needs moderating, but the best thing about EI is that we for the most part have a gentlemen's (ladies included) agreement to be constructive not destructive in our observations and desires for the team.

I think that tempers our comments and frustrations, I know it does mine.  I, like everyone else, wonder what exactly is DVH's mind in some instances, but when that occurs I just concentrate on the young men and look for positives. I think that is what DVH does as well.  He isn't perfect (unlike some fans in other forums obviously are) and he will occasional do some things that some of us could no doubt do better  :), but he has a pretty good track record of getting it right before conference time.

Just wait until we don't sweep a MAC team to start the season, there'll be plenty of hair pulling by noobs.

Generally, one early season game doesn't make or break a baseball season.  Most of us are mature (enough?) to understand it.  However, if the diamond Hogs lost a baseball game like the hardcourt hogs did today, on a 21-1 run, people here in EI would be pretty angry.

But Coach Van Horn would have been run in the 6th or 7th unlike CMA who waits until a couple of seconds to get T'd up.    :-[
I'm in shape.  Round is a shape.

Most Hog fans don't even know that we field teams in anything but football or basketball so I doubt they find their way here. I once had a guy tell me he would trade all of our track championships for one football championship. I wanted to deck him. I find that most Hog baseball fans are like me in that they just love the game of baseball. When it is Hog baseball it is just a little more special for us.

Not to worry....the regular EI posters, administrators and moderators will not let that happen!

Looking forward to another fun and great season.

Not sure why people are worried that noobs will be freaking out after not sweeping a MAC team the first weekend. There are plenty of regulars who freak out pretty consistently every year.

You know what I mean Kevin...

I think people are afraid the negativity and dissapointment from the basketball season will make its way into EI

I get that... My point is the negativity isn't only coming from noobs

Knot2brite

Yeah but yall can handle when Kevin and I are negative....we try to be constructive in our negativity

For a room that lets you know every chance it gets that this is the forum where nirvana exists and nary a discouraging word is said, seems to me there are quite a few in here who brag about being positive who are going negative on events that haven't even taken place yet and members who haven't even posted in here this year.

short and sweet this time....this room gets just as down and dirty as any other, with exceptions to politics....that halo on your head is not nearly as bright when looking straight on than when looking up
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

Knot2brite

Yes....we gripe and cuss and scream at each other....just like everyone else does....no halos...no Angels....no perfect people....also...the regulars actually know the game and how it should played....not so much in the others

and we have moderators that back us up when we tell people to behave, and make us behave as well when we cross the line.
