He is a HOF player, no doubt.  Probably the best player to ever put on a Razorback jersey.  His pro career also speaks volumes.  One of the home grown "triplets", that brought Arkansas basketball to national prominence.
Arkansas born, Arkansas bred, when I die I'll be a Razorback dead.

Yes! Thanks for posting that SI cover. 'Twas the dunk I was referring to.

Best cover ever...I had this blown up to poster size right after this came out...had it redone while Sid was an assistant with the Mavs...Emailed Mark Cuban to see if I could get Sid to sign it...He had me mail it to them and he got Sis to sign it...That was great of them to do it for me....

wasn,t the nickname more for the way he could worm his way around and between players for his shot or to grab a rebound from bigger guys?

Not in terms of performance as a Hog.    But he's undoubtedly the favorite Hog,  the most successful professional Hog, and the best regarded Hog.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. The numbers show Day crushes him, even when controlling for differences in era, pace, and style, when it comes to actual basketball performance-- and did it against much stronger competition, with very similar winning patterns.    Its Day 1,  then a toss up between Syd and Corliss, depending on how you weigh subjective factors like the value of a title and NCAAT POTY vs. establishing a reputation for the program, etc.

Sid would have crushed Todd Day all things being equal and I loved Todd.   Lock down defender , attitude, rebounding, scoring. Sid did whatever the team needed. Stats don't always tell the whole story.

elksnort

Joe Johnson might be the best NBA player that was a Razorback at one time.

But Sidney was a great one also.

gmarv

going and looking at both of their 4 year stats here is what i got. todd day averaged 18.9 points a game Super Sid averaged 16.9 points.Looks bad for Sid right but Todd Day averaged had the 3 point shot figured in so there is that. Sid averaged 8.5 rbs a game Todd Day averaged 5.75 rbs a game . Todd Day averaged 2.5 assist a game Sid averaged 2.0 assist a game. One last thing Sidney average 60% shooting versuses Todd Day shooting 47%. Means probable Days % reflected the 3 point shots he took to a degree.
AT best for Day the stats are a wash. You can,t compare the heart and will to win between them and that is where i think the greatest difference is Sid wins that one big.

The numbers go deeper than that;  steals?  Day broke the school record (so did Mayberry, the only reason Day isn't our career leader there, too) . Sid, no so much.  Day left campus among our Top 10 shot blockers, despite being a SG/SF.   Sid, not so much.     Day played fewer minutes, had better efficiency stats, and a lower usage rate to boot--  all while playing better competition.

This is Erie's personally favorite delusion.

It has all been discussed before; the numbers, wins, awards, etc. DO NOT support his claim that Day is clearly the best Hog.

The evidence is pretty clear--  Day is head and shoulders above Moncrief when it comes to actual on the court performance.

Its because they mistake two different arguments for being the same one;  Greatest Razorback, and greatest basketball player as a Razorback.

And sentiment is nearly impossible to move people on, in spite of mountains of evidence.   They love Sid, but wonder why we have problems with kids from Memphis, when we don't acknowledge the best actual Razorback player in our history.

Todd Day may have been a better scorer. Todd had the three point line but until his senior year Sid the Kid was not a guard. He was a 6-4 player who made his living inside.
Which if you think about it, is remarkable. He was a much better defensive player than Day. Michael Jordan once told the Los Angeles Times, "When you play against Moncrief, you're in for a night of all-around basketball. He'll hound you everywhere you go, both ends of the court. You just expect it." Overall basketball player Sidney was the best ever produced by the Hogs.

Sid was a much better defensive pro;  the numbers show that Day crushed him as a statistical defender, though, in college.  People forget just how versatile he was--  Day was in our all time Top 10 in blocks until 2011, and blew away our Steals record as well.

Sidney out rebounded Day 1015 to 673 in five fewer games. He was the best and most versatile.

He also had significantly more minutes, so the disparity is much smaller than raw numbers suggest.

Todd played in the high scoring early nineties versus the lower scoring seventies in which Sidney played.
Example in 1978 the Razorbacks took 1943 shots. In 1991 the Hogs took 2820 shots. Hence more points to be scored and more rebounds to get.
