You guys kill me...these were two great kids who sacrificed a lot to walk on as Razorbacks, the team they loved.  Both could have played at a lower level, but wanted to be Hogs.  Bothshould be commended for their efforts.  All of us admired Brandon Burlsworth, who like these two fellows walked on.  We all would love to have a great walk on program, but here you are blasting two kids.  That is why this board has a reputation for being the "hater board" because those of you bad mouthing idiots.

Clark Irwin would like to be a coach and received no encouragement from Bobby Petrino that he would be welcomed here as a volunteer or as GA so he is going somewhere that will help him get into college coaching.

If there is a fault here, besides some of you imbeciles that have bad mouthed these kids, is that Nutt should have put them both on scholarships -then they would have had some stature with the new staff.

Gus Malzahn once commended to Clark Irwin, whose Central's team beat Gus' when MM was a junior for the state championship, that "you only ran three plays in entire game". (implying - up the middle right, up the middle left and sweep right.  Clark's reply to Gus was, "That is all it took!".

RZRBack_FAN

They didnt want to be hogs that bad or they would have stayed. Sounds like to me Irwin is more worried about being around Nutt than he is being a RAZORBACK. What does the whole 3 play comment have to do with anything? One Qb is quiting the Team and going to walk on at Ole Miss(haha) the other is on scholarship and competing for the starting job at probably the best Program in the country this decade.

OKhogfan1959

Oh the pope..What a dufus you are..You are a Gus hater and support Irwin. Imagine that..

Everyone on here has wished the kid well.  He's on his way to Nuttville and to me that is not a good thing for the kid too do.
It's also coaching suicide to work for Nutt. All he will learn is those 3 plays. That's probably why he's going to Miss to run Nutts offense..

I can't believe you would put that in your post like it's something to be proud of..

they were both just occupying scholarships that could be used for players who will actually make a difference vavra was only kicking ahead of tejada because he is a nutt hugger and an a$$ kisser but and for irwin let him go to ole miss and teach there quarterbacks to be career backups.
They were walk-ons brainiac.

OKhogfan1959

Thepope..Burlsworth is in a class all by himself. Don't know how you can mention him in a sentence with those two players?
Burlsworth was an all american and high NFL draft choice that had unbelievable dedication that is pretty much unmatched. No way to compare the two to Burls!

Can't blame the Walkon and Irwin well that is best unsaid!

OK, so CI is a great kid and apparently did great things for us, but we're just saying that following in ole Nutty's footsteps isn't very smart.  That's all, no hatred intended just not very smart.

Please explain to all of us why going to be GA is a bad decision at any major college. From what i've heard they take a few GA a year.

Mainly because Clark Irwin is doing something most people here are jealous of.  No matter who he is being a GA for, it is something not just everyone can do.

Congratulations to Irwin & Vavra for having the heart & desire to be Razorbacks. Comparing them to Burlsworth is ridiculous.  Burlsworth was a great football player.   Irwin and Vavra provided little in terms of performance on the football field.  Vavra was medicore on kickoffs. To be honest, they provided so little it's not even worth the time to write an article about them leaving.

I must admit, this is one of those times that "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

True, they probably won't be missed much, but I didn't see or hear of either one of them slamming the U of A, the razorbacks, the coaches or the fans.  They are simply doing what they feel is best for their future.

Considering their roles on the team, I would asssume under their previous coach they got a lot of free time and did pretty much what ever they wanted.  Under their "real coach", they probably actually have to work out and practice and be at team meetings, etc.  We don't know the "whole story", maybe they both got word that they were going to be cut and therefore wanted to leave on their terms.

They should be thanked for their contribution to this point and that's it.

Now lets move on.  Besides, we need a place kicker that can put it through the endzone.  Only 8 touchbacks last year is not good.

Why wasn't he in the first place?  Never could figure that one out.  If he can kick a 50 something yard field goal, how far can he kick a kickoff.  Tejada kicking against Auburn at the end and things might have been different.  Been wondering about this all year. Thanks for making me revisit it. ;)

That kick at the end was called for by the coaching staff. Learn something about football.

Some of you are just plain stupid.

Is it really that big of a deal that a kid is graduating early and following his former coach in order to become a GA?

Does it really bother some of you that much?

If so, then wow, I truly feel sorry for some of the pieces of trash that want to bad mouth a kid who gave his all for the razorback program. All of you should be ashamed.

hog_fan

Why did Clark say he was quitting to focus on school and then say he was wanting to follow nutt? All he had to do was say he was leaving and planning to go to Ole Miss in hopes of being a GA

From the article it looks like Vavra wasn't on a scholorship

Tejada was Nutt's first kicker to be on scholy.  He never paid attention to the kicking game, hence he never recruited kickers/punters.  Tejada in highschool was just to good that even Nutt had to offer him a scholorship.

You guys are relentless. Just leave the kids alone. First off, Clark was expected to get a scholarship for this upcoming season from Nutt, but obviously things happened. He talked to Petrino and he said he wasn't going to grant him the same offer. So like a kid who is close to graduating with a degree from the Walton College of Business, he decided to just finish up strong and graduate in december of 2008 instead of may 2009. This should be noted considering most football players are kiniesology majors. I am sure the oppurtunity to become a Graduate Assisstant at an SEC school are few and far between. So if you were in his shoes, wouldn't you go assist the coach who gave you a shot to live your dream of playing for your homestate team?

Dont forget, we just signed a transfer from Mich, and I bet you guys are glad he decided to leave one school for another.
Couldn't agree more. I do see a moderator is taking part in the discussion, but nothing will happen because nobody's being "thrown under the bus". I bet if their last name was Mustain it would be dealt with. Oh, well, it's their board.

Clarks Dad

Clark Irwin has no Skill? How did he win the Top Gun QB 1? Give me a break. He may not have been the biggest or the fastest player. But he gave it all he had. He always knew he would never snap a down in real game. But he still gave 110%. I admire the charicter that must have taken. Anyone who would insult this guy is a big jerk.

And no I'm not his Dad. I'm the OTHER Clark Irwin's dad.
Clark, you were sent to us for a very special reason. And whatever that reason is, it's not to score touchdowns.

You think????

I'm well aware that TCTWF and his merry pose called that kick.  I've played, coached and watched football for 40 some odd years now.  My point was, why not have a field goal kicker that can kick a 50 yarder do ALL the kickoffs (not just that specific one) and put them into the endzone.  That particular one just sticks out because it went a long ways towards giving Auburn the win.  My statement wasn't a knock on Vavra per se, it was just a "I don't get it" statement about Tejada not being the kickoff specialist.

Maybe you need to learn to read a little deeper instead of flying off the handle.

Ah yes, the "tell it to his face" angle, all too well-known on this board.  Reminds me of the culture Dale created while here.

I understand you are defensive because you know the kid.  That is understandable.

It doesn't change the fact that choosing to go play for or do anything for Dale is dumb.  If you think people aren't going to point that out..on THIS board - THE most truthful board for AR sports - then think again.

By the way, this is a sports' entertainment board, where all opinions are allowed.  Players choosing to go play for Ole Miss and for Nutt...ESPECIALLY after everything we know to be true - are making a DUMB choice - this is my opinion and I'll state it however many times I want because that is what we do here.

As far as your Mustain comment...if you don't see the difference, then you don't have a good grasp of the damage Dale did here - and that is fine.  But you are pushing it when you get on here and blast this board and the mods because an opinion is given about a dumb decision made by a soon to be former player.

If you can't handle the discussion then head back over to the pay boards.

Thanks.

Mods you guys need to do a better job of keeping crap post like some on this thread outta here. Irwin put his all into the Razorback program. You people need to look past your hate of Houston Nutt and realize that he did in fact give Clark the chance to even be apart of the Arkanasas tradition. Houston is a Central guy and Irwin is a Central guy. If you had the chance graduate early and get a head start in the career path you dream of being in, wouldn't you take it?

Sometimes I just don't know about some of the posters that call themselves fans. Sometimes it seems like some write hateful and hurtful things about kids just to "look cool" on the board. Make a sarcastic hateful remark towards Nutt and everyone is smiling from ear to ear. Then talk about a kid whose getting a terrific opprotunity to jump start his career.
