Yes! I hope we don't mess around with the Gus  drama triangle and we just go out and  get him. #hirenorvell

Here, here, Dilly, Dilly.

Don't put Gus' name in my mouth!!  I never mentioned him.  You did.  Sorry to tell you, it doesn't work like that. I thought this thread was about Norvell and my comments were ONLY related to Norvell.
then I apologize I assumed thats where you were going because thats where a large contingent go on here. So Dilly to you and have A Dilly day!

You may be right about Malzahn but I do not believe Norvell would go to TN(which I think you were eluding to).  I live in Memphis area.  Many around here have said before season started to look for him in Fayetteville.   I do not believe he would go to TN if Arkansas was offered to him.

I figured most Vols fans were ready to sell their soul to Bob Petrino

Malzahn took over for a coach that got fired after going 3-9 and went to the National Championship.

That team was loaded with talent, some of which he recruited as OC, but Chizik going 3-9 was all coaching related, not talent.

Auburn's recruiting rankings:

2010: 6th
2011: 5th
2012: 11th
2013: 10th

Let's not pretend he took over a complete dumpster fire

I went to school with Mike and think he'd do well. He only gets an offer if Gus turns job down.

Sounds like Mike is a shoe in.

So the team was successful when he was there, left for one year, bottom fell out, and returned to high level success as soon as he came back?

I'm not saying he's not a good coach or that he wasn't the reason for Chizik's early success. Just that him turning around a 3-9 team isn't quite the achievement that it looks like on paper

tends to happen when you put in a whole new offense you know players got to learn new things or it could have been a ploy to get Chiz fired so Gus could take over ala what BP tried to do with Tubbs but I guess it's just what you believe.

A 9 win turnaround is always impressive. And even if someone were to dismiss that, the point I made in the last post shows he's a good coach either way.

I live in East TN and Norville's name is not being brought up yet by fans.  Of course, it is all Gruden (comical) and Dan Mullen.

He is a good coach no denying that not debatable one bit. But also not that impressive players already recruited and knew the system

Everyone outside of the foolish TN fan's knows its not going to be Gruden.  Rumor is he is going back to the Bucs.

Mullen would be a good fit, but I'm not sure he would leave MS St for TN.  He has it made, and can retire there if he wants.  Plus, with Ole Miss sanctions coming, the MS ST job just got a lot better.  The in state recruiting just got a lot easier.

While that is nice, and I think he would be a good candidate for the job, that adds nothing to his football resume.

True.  But being close enough to it to keep a check on it and actually use it from time to time wouldn't hurt.   Assuming his resume otherwise lights our light.
I don't like to plan my day because then the word premeditated comes into the conversation.

a proven SEC coach vs American Conference maintainer.  Norvell hasnt built anything or accomplished anything.

Gus was a Sun Belt maintainer before Aubie hired him.  And he only did it a single year.

I think the problem with Norvell it's just too early in his career.

And the problem with our program is that if we want a young, talented coach we have to take a chance like that. We can't wait until they are at a bigger school because that means our ship has sailed.
Go away, batin'

He talks about his house in Arkansas on the podcast he did with Chris Vernon at the beginning of this season.

At the 19:50 Mark is when he talks about it.

Decent podcast too if you wanna know what kind of guy he is.

Tennessee is in bad shape. Don't think Mullen would leave Miss St for there either. Expectations much lower at State

Except for the fact that it is about 1 line long.  "Maintained mid-major program for 2 seasons."  Sure, there is nothing bad on it... there just isn't much on it period.

I love how loyal Arkansans are each other- but Norvell simply has not done enough for people to want him this bad.  He might even be a great coach one day- there just is nowhere near enough evidence at this point.  He has 1 recruiting class that is fully his- ONE.  Honest question:  if Norvell was from say, Indiana, and had the exact same resume would people be so in love with him?
as I suggested in another thread,  hit the links in other threads that talk about Norvell.  I think then you'll see why so many on Hville want him as the next coach.  To answer your question about him hypothetically being from IN, very likely no:  his being from the DFW area, playing fb in Conway & having a wife from the state makes him more attractive & less likely to leave for a bigger job if he's successful here.

Yes it was impressive for a coach with 1 year experience as a Head Coach in the Sun Belt. Good thing you're not an Auburn fan or you would have been against Gus getting the Auburn job.

Norvell is big on special teams. He completely revamped the Memphis special teams. They've returned 6 KO's for TD's in the past 2 seasons. Would have been 7, but they had one called back last game. They had gone like 33 years without doing it once before he arrived.

Wooderson

He has a home in Eureka Springs?  What?  I was all in on Norvell, but now?  I can't back someone with such bad judgement!

Good post. I wondered how long it would be before the Gus huggers attacked this tread and they are right on schedule.

I am just hoping we have the option between coaches like Malzahn and Norvell.  A lot better than bringing in John L Smith.  Im sorry I just threw up a little!
