There is belief nationally that the SEC has around 10 teams who could contend for an NCAA bid. The league has gained a lot of strength.

Good, more motivation for Barford, Macon and Co.

Hawg Red

I don't see Arkansas finishing worse than 7th in the SEC, FWIW.

Atlhogfan1

Dumb to put the Hogs behind UGa and Tenn just to name a couple out of the SEC.  Maybe it has to do with strength of unbalanced SEC schedules or what is returning vs lost.  38 spots behind Bama.  30 behind AU.  ::)
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

JayHog

I would like to see all the SEC do really good in these preseason tournaments and do good against their out of conference opponents. That would help boost the SEC's image.

sigpooie

Massey comp has us at 39 and Massey has us at 32. He's show us winning 26 games.  Look up Massey ratings, you can see all the polls in one page. Our lowest rank in 56 and our highest is 25..
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! Hunter "my buddy" Thompson

So you're okay with no post season?

nwahogfan1

Wichita State number 2 preseason.  Not bad.

HOW is WSU staying in the top 25 year after year when their recruiting rankings usually fall outside of the top 35 in most years?   It is called coaching.    Nice job coaches.

If we are to finish in the top 4 in the SEC we  better find a PG and an inside game by Conference.  IF not I see inconsistencies and a 9-9 conference season and no NCAAT.

No they don't and it's called a bs schedule. Win 35 games straight and exit in the 2nd round is called underachieving if the wins were against a legit schedule as you say.

They have made the Sweet 16 once in the last 5 years and not made it beyond the round of 32 the rest of the time.

We will be finishing higher than that for sure by the end of the year.
Hogs up! Covid down!

Atlhogfan1

We would have finished higher before the recent news about other SEC teams.  Now that the incoming talent responsible for the optimistic projections of some SEC teams won't be playing, the conference schedule appears to be turning back softer again while competitors will be heading to less success.

I can't believe that ranking, even if it was for football.  Too low for BB and way to high for FB.

Since it was posted before the season started I agree 100% he obviously did not watch the 1st 2 games.... That being said this years team should not have a problem handling the point or scoring in general. Guarding the 3 so far is my biggest concern.

If we are to finish in the top 4 in the SEC we  better find a PG and an inside game by Conference.  IF not I see inconsistencies and a 9-9 conference season and no NCAAT.

Could not disagree more with this post.

This post tells me you really didn't watch the first 2 games!  Just because neither Macon or Barford fit your idea of a prototypical PG doesn't mean they aren't adequate distributing the ball.  I'm not worried about post play at all as we have been killing the inside game!  I don't think you give Thompson enough props for his D down low or Gafford for how quick he is off his feet.  This kid is up twice before the centers are up once.  We will finish no less than 4 in the SEC and be in the conversation of winning it all season long!

Face palm.

Good for the SEC Bama got their guard eligible.  Still think this ranking gap between them and Hogs is crazy.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

I'm doing a Fred Flintstone triple take with my head after reading this unlearned crap above. We play 3 guards much of the time...they can get the ball up the court. Macon is so confident in himself he can run the show by himself. And if there is a better rebounding 6ft or below guard in the nation than Anton Beard, I'd certainly like to see him. You watch this team. More than any team since '98 these guys are constantly moving on offense. They truly have a motion offense and the cutters are doing a beautiful job. This is something we haven't seen in two decades. We have superior guard play and we have it in spades. Two of the three guards can knock down a three at anytime and all three can get their own shot. A big time rarity in college basketball. If you can't see that, you've never played the game.
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

We have terrific ballhandling and passing at guard. Stupid to worry about that.

I agree with the original statement.
Me too.  Our guard play will not be a problem this year.

I agree with the original statement.

The "face palm" was in regard to the poster quoting a post and saying he obviously hadn't seen the first games when the statement was made before the first two games were made.
