Scarblog: Luckily, the visitor this night was Kentucky, and Kentucky plays football only because the Southeastern Conference requires it

QuoteAlabama could beat Kentucky at football with Tim Williams tied behind its back - for just a half, though, because that'll teach him - and Brandon Chicken winging it at quarterback.

Let's be honest. While amazing college football things were happening throughout the land Saturday, Alabama 34, Kentucky 6 turned out to be the least interesting thing that happened in Tuscaloosa in the last week.

The No. 1 football program in the nation didn't have to be particularly awesome or even inspired to handle the No. 1 basketball program.

For the rest of the month, though, that kind of effort from the Crimson Tide might not get it. Not at home or on the road. Not on or off the field. Not with the three-game challenge that lies dead ahead.

Try misfiring on too many downfield throws next week at Arkansas, and see where that leads you. The Crimson Tide barely escaped its last visit to the home of the Big Piggies by the hair on its chinny chin chin. Jalen Hurts can consult Blake Sims for guidance.

Try stumbling out of the starting blocks the next week at Tennessee, which seems touched by the old magic...
