Stan was only 1-2 in the NCAA.  0-2 at our program.

Lokirain

Completely horrible hire. Go home Altman!

To me the fact that he made the NCAA tourney 7 times at CREIGHTON tells me that he can do wonders here at Arkansas.

Oliver

While I don't like the hire, I'm going to give him a chance.  I also immediately like him better than another coach on our campus.   ;D

Geohul

Give me today to vent.  Tommorrow I might feel better about this, but today it seems crummy.

RocknRollRazorback

my opinion doesn't matter- as long as the players have the opinion that this is a coach to get behind and play for. we know the team can play if there is a fire lit under their a$$... if this man can get them to play with passion  [and PB stays], then i think we'll be happy next season.
my 2 cents.
"You're no rock and roll fun! Like a party that's over before it begun. You're no walk in the park- more like a shot in the dark with clues left for no one."

PLAYBOAR

Fully support Altman and am looking forward to seeing a team with some fire in its eyes for a change.

I don't imagine that you people already calling for Altman to be fired will be around long.  Enjoy finding another team to support.

Hey Ref, does your wife know you're screwing us?

I'm pretty sure you can't go 1-0 in the NCAA tournament.

He was 3-1 in tourney play in his one season at Kent.

And people say that the fanbase in Arkansas is ignorant..

So, you're saying that it is easier to consistently get a tourney bid in the MVC than in the SEC?  You better think about that one hard before you answer.

12yrs at Creighton he won only 65% of his games, and was 2-7 in the NCAA TOURNY!!!!  What hire a dumb@$$ Frank Broyles!

did you read the title of the thread? go b*tch on someone elses thread, this one is for happy thoughts!

WBChogfan

I'll support Altman until I have a reason not to do so.

He can wail.  I saw him with his brother Greg in concert in LR in 1978.  Greg was the more famous Altman brother having married Cher and all.  But everyone knows Dana was the true backbone of the band.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

He's our coach, he wants to be our coach.  Let's give him a chance to win before we ridicule him too much.

Well said. He wants to be here, wants to WIN HERE and therefore has my support.

Ditto.  Good luck, and welcome to Arkansas, Dana!

Do I have a choice?  Of course, I'll give him a chance, I'm a Hog fan and want them to succeed, but this process only makes December seem forever away.

Good luck, Dana!

dana-
welcome to arkansas---we'll all come around and you'll do well.  You've got a great team, a fan base that is HUNGRY for wins, and you're gonna have to deliver---BUT, if you do deliver, we'll love you for life and we'll buy more tickets than the bud bowl can hold.  we'll be there for the sec tourney, we'll all come out to the ncaa regionals.  CBS will be at Bud Walton on Sundays and we'll be playing a lot of 8pm games cause of ESPN.  you're on the big show now---its the only show we have.  we're trusting you with a lot here, if you've been reading these posts you can see we're kind of tempermental, but its cause we love our hogs.

ps--if you have any ideas on a new football coach we'd be all ears

Where can a get this thing called chance, do they sell them at walmart, dillards, or maybe old navy? To give a chance I must possess one, I think I gave my last one to HDN. If anyone knows where I can get one on sell that would be great. Nevermind I had one in the closet, I was saving it for a rainy day. And it has been storm here for a while. So here is my chance DA, I hope you treat it better that the Nuttster did with it.

jbhicks

I think we will look back 4 years from now, and say this was a good hire. It obviously was not the "home run" that we were all looking for, but I think he will do good things for our basketball program. He is a good coach that likes up-tempo basketball, likes to press, and is a good recruiter. I hope he can convince PBev to stay. We will be a good team next year. I predict we win the West over Mississippi State. I am a Hogs fan, and will support Altman until he proves me wrong. Go Hogs Go. Wooooo Pig!

Jonas_Quin

I support this Coach 100% and hope he wins us a N.C. and he very well may, but...

the Razorbacks are now officially a national joke.  They already were somewhat thanks to Nutt and Broyles, but this whole mess just proved that no big names, no matter what the money, want to come here.

That is the ultimate embarrassment and humiliation.  Thank-you Frank Broyles.  You built a Colossus just to blow it up on your way out the door.

Is if Coach Altman didn't already have enough to do he now has to resurrect the entire athletic program.  I wish him the best and I for one will not be calling for his firing no matter what until Nutt and Broyles are gone.  It isn't his fault that we are now at the bottom of the barrel.

Good luck Coach Altman, you are going to need it.

beachhawg

I have done a lot of research on this guy.  I now think he is a great hire.
Get behind the guy.

DuffMcHog

I'll back him as long as he doesn't lie or email like the nuttster. Go coach Altman, come in here and be a class act and get the Piggies back to where we belong. WPS.
Restore the Razorback Pride! WPS and GHG.

Hogberry Snortcake

I just read the article from a recent thread stating the teams that have been chasing this guy over the last few years.  I think he's only an unknown to the fans.  I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at least.  As mentioned above, its not like we have a choice...

John Futrall

So far, his record at Arkansas is 0-0. He's recruited 0 5*, 0 4*, 0 3*, and 0 2* and 1* athletes...

Though his name certainly isn't exactly water-cooler conversation worthy as of yet, I fully support him based on his record as a Razorback..

Now there's only one thing left to say:

It's BASEBALL Season!!!!

GO HOGS!
GO CUBS!

OzarkHighs

Welcome aboard Coach Altman! Look forward to see what you can do with our Hogs!

Boarme

You may be pissed at Frank but it is not our new coach's fault.  Since it is a done deal we need to give him a chance.

The Master Of All

Coach Altman has built a powerhouse at Creighton and has consistently had the program at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference, a conference that is rated in the top 10 year after year and occasionally in the top five.  Coach Altman has done this at a Jesuit university with tough admission standards located in Omaha, Nebraska.  In other words, the situation Coach Altman found himself in was not favorable for building a program that expects conference championships and NCAA tournament berths.  Coach Altman did that and will do it again at the University of Arkansas.

Coach Altman has been the number one choice for many top programs over the last years when looking to find a new head coach.  The Master's number one choice for new head coach was Reggie Theus, but that is because the Master wanted to sing the "Hang Time" theme song before every game.
Without me, you people would just be confused.

ErieHog

I'd love to see him come out at his news conference and say something along the lines of   "For all those people who are upset that I'm not Jon Calipari or Bill Gillispie, get the hell over yourselves, get on board or get off the bandwagon, because we don't want half-assed fans.   My teams will leave others to do their coach-blustering for them, and will do all of their talking on the court."

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

zwhogfan

I'm glad we got him, he is a good coach and a good guy, and he plays an uptempo style of basketball which is what we all want to see. Not a huge name but I think he will do well here and he deserves a chance.

wirebender25

SEMO Hog

I think he is a good pick.  I'm behind him all the way.

kawhog

He is a very good coach.  Sure he isn't a home-run name or anything like that, but he isn't some dud either.  From what I remember when he was back at K-State he wasn't that bad.  KSU was spoiled rotten to a extent when they fired him.  Well I bet they wished they would have been able to hold on him now a days.  Just give him a chance!

RedSatinHog

He had a chance-stay at Creighton and avoid all of this.

We already know he's not a man of his word.  Just yesterday, he was telling the press he wasn't going anywhere that he wasn't the number one candidate for.

We only want razoback fans that want to be razroback fans!?!
sometimes it's a good and some times it's a schit

Dwight_K_Shrute

We can get talent here.  He can get a recruiter if he isn't one.  I want a guy that can beat the guy on the other bench with x's and o's.  We may never have a top 5 recruitng class but good x's and o's and strategy and structure can over come that.  That's why we were getting beat by teams with less talent.

I want a coach that will call a TO at the right time, make adjustments and can draw up a play to get a basket when we need one.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Puerco Diablo

Let's get this party started!  Lock up PB and hit the road... there is recruiting to be done!

AnthroHog

I'm supporting him for a few reasons.  He plays up-tempo according to some people, I've never seen him coach (so how am I to judge), he didn't leave Creighton for 13 years despite getting job offers elsewhere, he allegedly is intense (something that was always lacking for Heath) and I didn't want him is the last reason.

When I heard the candidates willing to come in front of the committee for the Arkansas job after Nolan was fired I was the biggest Stan Heath advocate you could find.  I believed that Stan's coaching philosophy would be a mixture of Izzo's and Kent State's (which I watched through their games in the NCAA tournament).  I blew off the fact that they rebelled against him believing he may adopt their style.  Well, I really wanted Stan and we saw how that was turning out and I didn't want Altman after hearing about all the other candidates, so maybe this is the best hire we could get.

Altman is a solid coach, no matter how you look at it. He is consistant, develops players well, and is big on fundamentals. He loves to use the three. Has a spectacular repoir with the community he is in. Creighton basketball has been selling out games for a long time now. So, he gets people in the seats. I read an article somewhere this year on his ability to get people to games.

The problem for most Hog fans with this hire is that Dana is not a "sexy" pick. We love "characters". Eddie and Nolan were a riot in themselves. Imposing, brooding, flamboyant types, who were as much a part of the story as the game itself. We love a little flash don't we? Thats the enamor with Anthony Grant, sharp good-looking, aggressive. While we have hated Calipari for years, a lot of got excited at the prospect...he is a little dangerous and we like that thrill. We like those slick. smooth tongued guys who have a flair. Helps with recruiting, I suppose. Tame, layed back guys don't seem to inspire us a whole lot. Lute Olson, John Wooden types would have died in Fayetteville

Dana has goody goody looks, and doesn't inspire danger. He won't rant and rave like Bruce Pearl and get the whole place wound up. He won't ever be the good imposing young looking black man or the slicked back smooth talking white guy. He will be Dana Altman, consistant, experienced, and respected. He coaches a good game. If the fans get behind him, recruits and players will see that and want to play here. If we don't, then they will see that to and go elsewhere.

Guys at this point, some of this is on us. We cannot change yesterday, but we can learn from it. I say we support this new era and get behind this proven coach and send a message to our recruits and players that Arkansas is goign to be great place to play basketball. You will have a good coach and great fans. By the way, I really believe that some coaches (not all- some guys will always be what they are)  can go from good to great when put in the right environment of support. Here to hoping that this is the place that we see Dana go from being a really good coach to a great coach.

I'm OUt

Well said.
He certainly isn't the coach I had dreams of coming in here.  But I haven't seen anything bad about this guy.  He apparently is the only coach around that wanted this job.  For that I am grateful and will cheer him on.  He likes fundamentals.  I like fundamentals.  We have something in common.
Dana come on down.  Let's make some history.  GO HOGS! Beat Memphis and A & M.
IF YOU HEAR THE QUACK IT'S TOO LATE!

I'm in, I think he will do a great job and and will actullay kick some butt on this
team and make us proud.  He is a solid coach, knows what he wants and how
to get it out of his players.  If he is recruiting and winning in the MVC he will
win here.
