Jim Dykes and Broyles on the plane.  Bo is reporting that Cal is in the mix and that Memphis allowed Cal to talk to Broyles.  Cal is considering the job and that Cal is in the mix and is the leading canadite and may get the job.  Bo contacted Memphis and they had no comment but said that they did grant Cal permission to talk to the UofA.

I posted earlier today that this was more than just a rumor.  Although I think he would be crazy to leave his current situation, I would love to have Cal.

milehipig

Is Jimmy Dykes helping us with the search or what?

Arkiebrian

Wow indeed...need to find pics of Calipari now.

No Cal, No Cal, No Cal

Cal employment will increase the business for the Washington county jail and prosecutor.

Geohul

Please let this be true.

hview

Hard for me to believe that Cal would be interested.

This is business, big business!!!  You're best to leave the personal feelings aside on this one, all we want is a proven winner and Calipari is just that!

What's the upside for him to take the Job?

ekyle1

Hold on boys.....remember,the last coach was playing us for more money. dont count Cal out fordoing the same thing.

Razorhog2006q

Cal is at the same level as Bill Self, maybe even better. Frank better deal out the cash if he truly wants him. 2+ million is the only chance we have.

lookawayquick

It is time to hire Majerus or Montgomery and put an end to this madness.  Both big-time coaches, proven winners.  Available and affordable.  Forget BG and Cal.  Hire a proven winner today.

I think Calipari is an excellent basketball coach.  I share the concerns about graduation rates and his kids staying out of trouble.  I have a question for anybody on the board; hasn't there been some rumors about questionable recruiting practices with Calipari?  That's all we need is to increase the size of the NCAA bullseye that we have on our programs due to Frank and Harrod.

HawgG

Help me out here, what has KNWA reported lately that hasn't been just internet message board gossip?

They are almost as bad as Randy Rainwater claiming he has great sources, when in reality his sources are what he reads from hawgsillustrated and hawgsports message boards.

Calipari is good  at outliving his welcome, no matter what job he has.  He is a year or two, and one or two ugly incidents away from doing that at Memphis.

He's just getting out ahead of the curve this time.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If we do hire Calipari, do you think he should apologize to the Hogs fans for saying bad things about our program, during the PC introducing him?

An old hog fanatic

He is supposedly making 1.8 at Memphis.  I would think it would take almost 3M to get him.  He's not worth that much, IMO.

I know that not many people like John Calipari on this board.  I was just wanting to get some reasons why.  I think I remember some people saying that he said something bad about Arkansas.  Can't remember though.  Please remind me.  I think that if we are able to get him as a coach, he we do a very good job here.  Thoughts.

Whoa! Isn't this putting the cart before the horse?

fatman423

You people need to relax.  He will NEVER come here.  EVER.

If you want a national spalsh, then this is it. Or do want to be an afterthought. I am on board! Bring him on!

Don't get too excited, it's likely that he's doing the same thing as Gillispie. I do think we can get him if we put out the big bucks though. Memphis can't outbid us.

Hogtropolis™

I would be very happy with this hire.

quest4excellence

I hate him. but if he coaches us  I will change my middle name to Calipari

I have this same feeling.  At this point, it would be a blessing.  Especially if he brought Rose with him.  All this team needed was a good point guard in the first place.  We could potentially have a great one.

If we Frank can land him that would be fantastic.

Montgomery if not Cal for sure.

I think Beverley would have no problem staying with an ex-NBA coach on board.

I hate Calipari, but I could grow to like him really quickly.

From what I remember, his first year at Memphis, he said he wasn't renewing the games with Arkansas because Arkansas wasn't a big enough to program to play non-conference games with.

He also has taken some shots at the U of A over the Nolan stuff, and when we played UMass back in 95, he was pretty smug about some stuff.

V

John's always been a very arrogant man. He's said some diaparraging things about Arkansas before. Recently on the Jim Rome show he was so high on medication, he had a hard time finishing the interview. He would never go to Fayetteville unless he is very high on medication...LOL

We need to put up WHATEVER it takes to get him. This is the coach that will revive the basketball program. This is the coach that will strike fear into opposing SEC teams. No excuses, Frank. Put up the money.

Yoko Oinko

Any coach who frustrates another coach to the point of "I'll kill ya!!  I swear I'm gonna kill ya" is to say the least, effective.  I'd love to have Cal.

if that is true that would be one I would have never thought would have crawed to Arkansas thought he hated us.

Calipari could use us just like Gillispie.  Get the big bucks ready Memphis if you want to keep Cal.

I think the guy is one hell of a coach he just an arse.

Yep, but that crow tastes better than the one we had over Gillispie.
I'm excited over this possibility.
