Ernie Kent would be my proven pick. I'd still go with Anthony Grant with his familiarity with the SEC

I guess we are going to have to join the ACC and ask Vitale to come coach us.  Either that or Dickey Nutt.

Yes.  Kent would be a great choice.

Oregon wanted to fire Kent last year.

rasorback4life

"Due to a steady decline in the success of his teams, the perceived lack of development of highly-regarded recruits as well as rumors of personal issues, many people questioned whether Kent would remain at Oregon after the 2005-2006 season. But after the season, the school's athletic director at the time, Bill Moos, issued a statement affirming his support for Kent."

That is a quote on wilki about Ernie Kent.   No thanks

NO TO ERNIE KENT!  Oregon's been trying to can him.  He's their Houston Nutt, just good enough to not get fired.

We have to start realizing that THIS JOB IS NOT DESIRABLE to most coaches.

1. We proved with BG that we're not going to offer 2 million, which is the least it would take to get a great coach to move to ARKANSAS. If we had opened up the purse strings, BG wouldn't have settled for a 1.5 mil contract with the Aggi es. Seriously, we are not and have never been committed to spending money like we want to be a National Powerhouse. We always look for Bargain Basement deals.

2. Why would you leave Vegas, LA, Lawrence etc just to come to BF Arkansas? Look at our past coaches--not very worldly people, w/ possible exception of Heath, who was a bad coach and struck gold when we came calling. Arkansas is viewed as backwoods and no wonder, there's no big city, very little culture compared to major metropolitan areas and even some large college towns, and it's not anywhere near the beach or mountains or casinos or anything. You have to overcompensate with a lot of money to get someone top-quality to come here.

3. WHO would want to work for our Three-Ring Athletic Dept.? We're not committed to winning anymore, at least not enough to pay a coach top dollar. We have a lame duck AD. We have a chancellor who gives votes of confidence to Nutt and fires Heath and doesn't even LIKE sports. We have a good-ole-boy BOT where ridiculous political moves are made to the detriment of the Athletic Dept.  I mean, come on!

Anthony Grant wouldn't come if we asked.  Kruger didn't come, that should speak volumes. I've been saying Kruger wouldn't come since his name came up. People act like they don't want him, but he's a better coach than what we'll be ABLE to get.

Lowery won't come either. At this point the S. Illinois job is better than the Arkansas job. And we won't shell out 1.5 for him anyway.

All the ridiculous names like Calipari, Pitino, etc. need to stop. Let's start talking about real possibilities. None of those people would leave the relatively happinin' places they live in to come to where the road ends, Arkansas. We're not close to any substantial city, and opportunities for culture for the children exist in VERY small quantity. And we wouldn't pay them enough to come here anyway.

We'll hire a mid level up-and-comer just like we always have. If not, we'll hire a has-been coach looking for his last blaze of glory, and we'll bomb with him for the next 5 years. It's a lose lose situation for us.

THE REASON IS WE WON"T SPEND THE MONEY IT TAKES.  NOTHING HAS CHANGED.  WE"RE STILL THE CHEAPEST AROUND.

Winner

Do you really believe the S. Illinois job is better than the Ark. job.  I hope Lowery believes it, because I don't want him here.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This has been a complete joke. Now we look like we will have to start begging for an up-and-comer.

Let's look on the right coast to Anthony Grant.

Kent (from Oregon) is lucky to still have his job.  From what I understand he was on the hot seat going into this season.  IMO, that is not someone we want.  Floyd won't come here, esp. after what happened with the hiring of Heath over him.  On to Anthony Grant!

Good.  If people like you were making decisions, we wouldn't even have a coach come next year.  Yes I and probably the entire rest of the country outside Arkansas view the S. Illinois job as at least the same as the Arkansas job.  Our entire Athletic Dept is in shambles.  Do you live in a cave??

Tim Floyd & Mike Holmgren.

does mike holmgren come with a reuniting with brett favre?

Considering the sport Holmgren coaches, its not about who he reunites with as much as who we would depart with.

Jay Wright.  Mike Montgomery.  Jamie Dixon.  Tom Crean.
Next line: Anthony Grant; Al Skinner; Todd Lickliter; Bruiser Flint; Seth Greenberg; Gregg Marshall; Ronnie Arrow.
Next line: Sean Sutton; Scott Sutton; Doc Sadler; Chris Lowery.

Young Coaches & Wildcard: Skip Prosser; Travis Ford.

All of this if Self, Gillispie, and Floyd are official out of the equation.  Might've missed a name or two.

I am not sure if the fan base, as a whole, would take a Seth Greenberg.
I'd take him if others didn't pan out.  Skip Prosser is a 50/50 for me.

If our fans wouldn't take a man who can turn a POS VaTech into a good team in no time flat... not to mention, they came thru the ACC....

Prosser always fields a good team, imo...

Honestly, I'd take Wright over Gillispie.  I am not sure he'd live the Philly area.
He went to Bucknell.  Wife went to Nova.  He's from Pennsylvania.
Have to put some serious cash to get him, I'm sure.

Greenberg is not a "name" coach, which might not suit some fans.  I agree he's done a great job at Va. Tech.  Getting Jamon Gordon and Zabian Dowdell and making them solid guards is what Arkansas needs.  Solid guard play.  The record, just above 500, might be a turn-off also.

I'm sure you are correct.  I just firmly believe in that guy.  He is very well thought of around the nation.   I've heard him doing analyst work on the radio quite often and they always refer to him as a "clinic" or something comparable.   He knows the game and if he can win at Va Tech ...  I'd like to see what he could do here...

Houston h

John Thompson III, he has the name, the pedigree, the coaching ability, he was an assistant at Arkansas, he can recruit with the best of them AND Georgetown isn't going to pay him like we can!  He is making less than Heath was making.

Bomis Hawg

Ronnie Thompson was at Arkansas, not John Thompson III.
Ronnie is at Ball State.  JT3 played & coached under Carrill at Princeton then was the HC there.
