Andre almost beat him.
From the story I've heard, Andre said he wasn't going to lay down for Hogan and no one knew if he meant it or not. Hogan went out there thinking Andre was going to screw him.
Andre was sipping on Wild Turkey, popping pills before the match, and cursing Hogan.

Hogan always thought someone was going to stab him in the back when it came to these type of things.  Can't blame him, in a way, for being the way he was.

sad thing was the randy savage and ricky steamboat stole the show with one of the greatest matches ever.  Savage and steamboat actually got yelled at backstage for putting on such a great show. i guess some things never change.
