Does anyone have an idea of what's going on with him.  Has he messed up, Anderson doesn't like him, slacks off in practice....what?  Early on it seems most on this board figured him to be a big part of the teams success.  Now he's a ghost.

Like it is

No clue , because all MA talks about in pressers is how important our bench is and they need to get more minutes

b-ash

He is a shooter only and he can't make any shots now, so no reason to be in the game.

PygmalionEffect2

I thought he was not 100% physically?

I haven't seen much info on it but I thought the announces mentioned it in a recent game.

I think he damaged his knee last year and so I don't know if it's the same knee or something else.

Someone on here should know.

He is clearly in a slump that I think goes back to having his shot blocked in the corner vs Miss St..
Shooters have to shoot themselves out of slumps. In the meantime he needs to not think about it when he's in and just let the game flow.

He strikes me as a shooter that absolutely requires confidence. Get him the ball in a blowout win in rhythm and it's 100% in.
I would say if we think he's necessary for this team we are doing the wrong thing having him doubt himself on the bench. I haven't seen him get a whole lot of chances recently.
It's back to a catch22 now like last year. "Get in there and make your first 3 or you're out." How's that for confidence?

You're right, he's very dependant on confidence. There are guys who can be rattled by trash talk as much as their own failures. His issues begin and end in his own head, but coach isn't helping if he insists on instant success every appearance.

It's more like, "Get in there and at least make 1 out of 3".  But he's not even able to do that.

hawginbigd1

He is a below average defender and ball handler for a guard. If he doesn't make his shots he really provides nothing.

Asset when shooting well and liability when not.  Last few games, NOT!  More playing time when a asset and less when a liability.  How hard is that to understand from his past few performances?

I think it was early in the UT game, and I said the same at that time, it looked as though he got rattled.. shot an air ball immediately afterwards... not been the same since..

He can defend as good as Beard and certainly out rebound him.  I don't understand why MA won't let him work through his slump like he does Macon, Barford and Beard... All he needs is some minutes....

Plus there is zero reason to start 3 guards on this team.  There is a glaring lack of guard play which makes Barford, Macon, and Beard play too many minutes!  Hey mediocre Mike figure out a decent rotation

The CJ Jones in non-conference play hasn't shown up in SEC play.
It's been apparent he's tentative out there, lacks confidence and can't throw it in the ocean right now.
In a close SEC game how do you give him more minutes???

He played 13 minutes against Tenn 1/6 FG 0/3 3 pointers / 0-2 from the line / 3 rebounds / 0 assists

Ms. St 10 minutes 0/2 FG / 1 reb / 0 assists / 1 Turnover

Those games led to his 3 minutes yesterday.

He didn't do much against Tennessee and then he did nothing at MSU.  Contribute or hang out on the bench.  I think Dustin Thomas was in the same situation.

C.J. Jones from 3 pt. to air ball specialist now. This kid has completely lost his stroke and confidence, uncanny just how much.
