I hope he stays as well.

I just started a thread about hearing.  I think it is just lip service because he never said anything about the 08-09 year just said next year.  If i recall the next game is next year so this may be him making us think it.  Who knows for sure except Felix and we already heard that.

dish13-hog

Listening to Bo's show, he just said that it "sounds" like Felix is coming back to Arkansas next year.  FWIW.  I'm guess he's referring to some interview, but I just tuned into the show.

So would that constitute as words out of Felix mouth  ;)

Money can work both ways; it isn't a given that coming back would be an unwise financial decision.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

It was an interview with Felix and he said he was staying.  Also, he never has filed the exploratory paperwork with the NFL for players who intend to declare.

Incredible bump for the Hogs next year if it happens.  He would be devastating in a spread offense.

Wow, all I can say. That sounds a lot like he is staying. That would probably get us a top 25 ranking with a CB win.

If he goes this year he could be foregoing future income.  If he comes back he could be worth twice as much next year plus have a college degree.  Conversely he could have a career ending injury this year if he comes back.  however, if he takes out an insurance policy for a million and gets his college degree then even if he blows a knee he will still have a college degree and a million dollars.  I could have a real comfortable life with a million.

Maybe he believes what Jesus said:  "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:19-21)

Would be super if he stayed. However, unless the money ain't right, he should go.

jgphillips3

I will say this, he is risking injury...BUT...if he is the featured back and lights the world on fire running the ball, returning kickoffs, catching the ball, et al he will be a Heisman candidate and will be a MUCH higher draft pick and get far more guaranteed money as a higher pick.  It could be a financially sound decision and a financial windfall if everything goes right.

I find it hard to believe, but if so I'm thrilled about it. 8)

If he does come back, I can't understand why.  He most likely won't get his degree, he won't be worth twice as much as he would be this year, and a million dollars isn't that much in the big scheme of things.  There is absolutely no "sane" reason why he should come back.

hogfan064

Well, Felix certainly sounded like he's coming back listening to that interview.  Say he plans on being a Razorback.  He didn't hesitate a bit when saying that.

Demaghog

Felix will be perfect out of the one back spread that Petrino runs.  Remember the 40 yard touchdown out of a one back formation vs SC.

He already had a policy for more than that.  He'll likely bump it up to 5 or more.  That IS a lot of money in any scheme of things.

If he improves 10 spots in the draft, it will more than likely double his earnings.

Who cares about the friggin degree?  It's about M O N E Y.  A very smart gamble on Felix's part.  Cheers to FJ. :razorback:

According to the final AP poll of the regular season, the Hogs ARE in the Top-25...at No. 25

Dr Swineglove

If Felix stays, he'll be a major weapon for the Hogs - I think Felix staying would mean an extra win or two and I'd feel a whole lot more confident we'll be heading to a bowl next season.  The only drawback is that if Felix does stay, we very well might miss out on Curtis.  Given the choice I'd rather have Felix, and try to recruit a stud RB next season if Curtis does decommit.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that with Felix coming back and a CB win, we are likely to start next season in the top 25, something that hardly seemed possible before Coach Petrino and this great news.

You are mistaken.  The best possible spot he could be drafted this year would be around 15th.  Imagine if he rushed for 1700 yards next season?  He would be an easy top 10, probably top 5 pick.  The difference between number 5 and number 15 is many many many dollars.  Millions in guarunteed money and in incintives.  There is very good reason for him to be back.

I agree with this...He's the ideal back (shifty, great in space, superb speed, good hands) for Petrino's offense. If can move up into the top 10-15 area of picks next year as opposed to the late first/early second round area where he's at now, there's no telling how much more $$$ he could make. Petrino's offense will give him the opportunity to move into that part of the draft. I think it's a good move for Felix (and for us).
He can always get more insurance to cover the injury risk, too...

I have a sneaky suspicion that it is true that Felix will be back.

Here's the difference between a mid-30's pick (the highest I've seen him projected for this year's draft) and a top 15 pick (where Felix could go with a good season next year):

From the '03 draft:

No. 34 pick:  Signing bonus $2.2 million, 5 year contract for a total value of $4.6 million or $920,000/year
No. 15 pick:  Signing bonus $3.0 million, 6 year contract for a total value of $9.5 million or $1,583,333/year

So, with the signing bonus and the difference in the contracts, the 15th pick will make $4,116,665 over the first 5 years of their NFL career.  That is $823,333 per year, $68,611 per month, or $2,256 per day.

Bottom line is:  If he comes back, has a good year this year that proves he can be an "every-down back", he can make A LOT MORE MONEY for his entire NFL career.

The money drops off significantly from there too-- and keep in mind, you aren't guaranteed but a fraction of that cash.   Your signing bonus is the only thing they are obligated to pay, you could be cut the  next day and never see another dime from the contract,  though first round deals usually come with guaranteed roster spots, something that isn't the case for 2nd round deals,  meaning you'll very likely at least see a season's salary as a 1st rounder.

There is even a possibility for him going higher than 15.  Imagine if he runs for 1700 yards, I think hes capable.  How could 10 teams pass up someone like that?
