Officially retired with lameness and bone bruises. Was pretty obvious hasn't been the same horse all year long. Happy retirement to her.

Well, that explains why Smith didn't get the ride out of her that he did on Drefong and West Coast. She was an outstanding mare.

Not gonna compare her to Z because totally different running style...but one thing I will say is she had a comparable high cruising speed through fast fractions like Rachel did.  So thankful they diagnosed her before something bad happened in a race.

Mares, unlike studs, have this biological clock in their heads. Some can race effectively on past 5, most cannot. The biological clock tells them it's time to procreate for the sake of perpetuating the species. Horses are just like any other animal, there's something innate in the females that tells them its time to have babies. Don't laugh, you see the same behavior in all mammals and even the lower species in the animal world. That's why mares can suddenly lose their form and people wonder what's wrong with them. Not saying that's the only reason mares lose their will to race, but many times the drive to keep the species going takes over their will to run in an oval dirt/grass ring when some human says it's time.
The long Grey line will never fail our country.
