It just blows my mind that what was probably the best ever high school basketball player in the state of Arkansas ended his career without a state championship. I know it was a challenge the last couple of years with how good North Little Rock was, but I expected him to ride off into the sunset this season, even after we learned how many other good teams there were in 7A. A transcendent talent like that is usually just that: transcendent.

I'm not a huge fan of Marcus Monk now, but the EPC team his senior year was easily one of the two best Arkansas high school teams I've ever seen. They were 3A and Altheimer was 2A, but they were beating the biggest schools in the state and winning out-of-state tournaments. They were just great, great teams.

EPC lost early on in a tournament in Kansas City or somewhere and never lost again. I'm pretty sure Altheimer's only two losses that year were to EPC. Marcus and his teammates were just so, so good, though Monk was the only one who went on to a big college career and that was in football.

Maybe Malik will work better together with other players on his level in college, but Bentonville always seemed funky every time I watched them this year. They didn't have as much talent last year, but Monk and his teammates knew their roles better and played better together. It was just weird to me that after an entire season playing together, there were still times last night when they weren't on the same page.

lc480

What you watched was a team that played together verses a team who has a prima donna who's been reading to many press clippings of people telling him how great he is.
You also have a coach who is to afraid to pull his star player aside and tell him it just not his night and his shots are not falling get the ball to someone who shooting it better from 3 like the Hutchinson kid , he was shooting 50% from 3 point line and Monk was shooting 0%, one ended up shooting 2 of 4 while the other one missed all 10 of his some not even close, all the while jacking wild shots from all over the floor. But coach he couldn't take a chance on hurting the superstar feelings, I mean Monk needed to be the leading scorer to stroke his ego, to heck with state title. Got to think about that pro career!!!!!!!!
Then the facts were Bentonville had Cabot out maned at every Position even at the post where the Bentonville player who looked like he could play tight end for Razorback couldn't even handle the skinny kid under the basket. Then you have a football player who is maybe 6' tall guarding the most elite guard in college basketball this year who has played basketball all season while the other one joined the team after football season was over. Looked like he was for sure up to the task.

Last but not least its time for the Monk brothers to take their dog and pony show to Kentucky and play for old slick willie Cal the snake oil salesman. WPs

Sorry , but F monk Brand, and i hope they have a uhaul parked outside their place and are escorted to the state line as quickly as possible. I also hope that Nick mason goes with them. Take their whole dbag brand of buddiez and hit the road. Hope they never come back, and are never welcomed back for any reason. It will be very funny if Moses comes back, and all of our new recruits hit the ground running like they were doing in the juco ranks and we kick the shizz out of UK next season. The leading scorer of our new bunch, Barford, i think it was said that his style in college and in high school is the same as Mikes, so he should be ready to go out of the gates. So hope that we beat the dog dook out of UK next year. I only wish we could have played UK in Fayetteville. But, then again, i dont think Monk is good enough to be 1 and done. Anyways. Hope i never hear that name again. Good riddance!
Glad Bentonville lost, glad monk had a bad game, and glad he got to hear the Hog call while he was losing! Now leave the state!
Basketball is back, baseball always, football was a dumpster fire once again..... but as the phoenix rose from the ashes, BMF Petrino has risen again!!! Lots to look forward to.

As the rain falls, I realize, that some where out there, some one, is wearing a mask while they shower............

I have a hard time not feeling the same types of sentiment. But......if you think about it, with CMA as our coach, can you really blame him?

i do wish that Mike would do like Bielema and hire the best coach/recruiter he can find. To me, its a good thing when your staff is so good that they are constantly taking upward promotion jobs. Bielema just replaces them with another great coach/recruiter. As far as i know, mike has had the same staff since being at UAB. We dont have a single top dog re recruiter on this staff. That is just the plain truth. I like Mike, and i want Mike to win here, but even Nolan had a couple of top recruiters, and maybe a bagman here or there hahaha. (Inside joke) but seriously, There are just too many instate kids that have left in the last few years. We have enough talent inzide the state to produce good teams every year. Allen kid that went to UF would have really helped us this year. Monk would have helped us last year. The kid that went to uga ? Was it. He could have helped us. Didnt we have one go to bama, and aTm as well? The kid that is going to mizz next year, kid could have helped us next year. Just kind of sick and tired of our own states talent leaving and then killing it for other teams.

I hope somebody digs deep into how the Monks got to Bentonville, Marcus running his dog and pony tournaments, and how Monk ultimately ended up at UK. I think if some light got shined into the fiasco, you probably would find some impropriaties.

I'm glad that kid from Kentucky is finally leaving. Can't wait for them to leave this town.

Monk may never have a college or pro career like those guys, but Monk could have been a lottery pick as a junior out of high school. I've seen a ton of high school basketball in Arkansas and he's easily the best I've ever seen. The reason why I give him an edge over others is because Monk really has no weaknesses in his game. He's a complete player.

I have absolutely nothing against Malik Monk, but I don't expect anybody to cry over it either.

lol at lottery pick as a junior. This lottery pick just went 0 of 10 and go outplayed by a football player. He is not even top 10 of all time Arkansas high school players ever. How old are you 25?

This is ridiculous, jilted ex-girlfriend nonsense. Have fun living in whatever reality you tell yourself you're in.

Bennie Fuller in 1970-71 season at Arkansas School of the Deaf scored 102, 98, 77, and 65 in games. He only averaged 50.9 points per game that year. If you don't have him in your top 3, than you know notta. Monk who?

1. Corliss Williamson
2. Sidney Moncrief
3. Marvin Delph
4. Bennie Fuller
5. Keith Lee
6. Micheal Cage
7. Andrew Lang
8. Ron Brewer Sr.
9. Ron Brewer Jr.

In no particular order for those of you millenials who throw around Monk is best ever. If these guys are not in your top 10, just give us old guys a break and zip it. :)

Im 30 and I'm a late millennial. And I agree with this. Monk was garbage last night.

Damn. I'll remember my Hogville lesson for next time. One game is always indicative of a players' abilities and reflects his entire career. Got it.

Your top 10 would be correct unless Monk had decided to go to Arkansas and then he would be number 1. Let's what and see what type of career he has before he is ranked.

Wow 8 of 24 shot attempts and the next closest guy is 15 attempts below him and only 3-9. 0-10 from 3 and 8 - 14 from two. Wonder did the coach ever think to whisper in his ear to maybe let up on the 3 attempts and look to get to the basket more?

#2 on Arkansas high school scoring list is 1200+ points behind Bennie Fuller. His 50.9 ppg is still 3rd nationally all time. His records have stood the test of time for 45 years.

lc480

Fuller scored the second most point in a Arkansas high school game, the all time record for points in a game was set by my late uncle Morris Dale Mathis who played for St.Joe in 1955. You can look it up in the records. Still wonder how many points he could have scored if they would have had an 3 point line at that time.

guessing about what? That we need better recruiters on the team? That is pretty obvious. Guessing that the players that went out of state would have made this team better? Thats pretty obvious too. Mike needs to hire a top recruiter. Plain and simple.

Seems to me that same thing happened to Archie Goodwin a few years back during the state title game against Alma. Isaac McCoy wore that butt out to the tune of like 40 points, 20 rebounds and 10 blocked shots, if I recall it correctly. McCoy was also a football player.

I hope he chokes every time hereafter. The Monk family used and abused Bentonville and Arkansas and I'm glad the kid is leaving town.

I did find your Uncle listed and he in fact is the leader in a single game. My apologies sir. He is listed in the Arkansas record books, but not nationally. You might want to contact some of them and have them add him. (Removes foot from mouth). :)

It was all a setup deal, or so I thought.
It made little sense for the Monk clan to move to Bentonville, of all places.

There are probably as many people living in Bentonville who are connected to universities other than the UA as the ones who are connected to the UA.

No weaknesses? The guy shoots a knuckleball half the time. With his size that should never happen.

Also, Joe Johnson was better than Malik Monk, IMO. I wouldn't even put Monk in the greatest Arkansas high schooler of the last 25 years much less ever. Johnson and Anderson were better. In terms of all time, Williamson was extremely good to have been the Gatorade player of the year prior to Youtube and Keith Lee was far more dominant as a high schooler than was Monk and Lee didn't go to Arkansas either.
