I know it's just a preseason game tonight (Hall of Fame game against the Cowboys), but I'm excited to see him get on the field again and I hope he does well. Hopefully he makes well on what's probably his last opportunity to make it in the NFL

I'll make a prediction: If BCG were to get the Tennessee job, Calipari will be fired from UK within 2 years because from the 2013-2014 season on, Tennessee will own the SEC East until BCG moves on or retires.

He'll have to show out to make it. Doesn't look good for Matt.

Unfortunately for Matt, Ocho Retard got his new BFF T.O. on the team.  They already have matching 1/2 heart tatoos, so my guess is that it wouldn't matter if MJ set a single game mark for yards- he is still done there.

Sad-  I really thought putting him in that offensive system would finally allow him to shine....

I took my sons over to the Bengals training camp on Friday to see MJ.  He spent a good deal of time watching from the sidelines.  Once they started their skeleton he got a couple of passes but dropped them both.   I will have to say that the entire receiving corps looked pretty lackadaisical during this practice.

Seems to me he would work well as a slot receiver with '85' and TO on the outside.  Sadly, he didn't seem to be trying to set himself apart or show much enthusiasm.  But what do I know, may just be the general demeanor for everyone during practice in August.

Matt Jones should see the field a lot tonight. My thinking behind that is the Bengals want to see him on the field and kind of show case him to the other teams to see if they can use Matt as trade bait for another position the Bengals are not deep at.

With Antonio Bryant on his way out due to injury, there is still a slight hope for Matt. T.O. only fills the hole that Bryant was expected to. Jordan Shipley and Andre Caldwell have reportedly been very good in the slot thus far in camp.

Matt has been bothered by a foot injury in camp, and that's not helping him fight for the final WR spot left on the roster. He better hope they cut Bryant. Not many teams will a guy like Matt a third shot.

Matt Jones is having some ankle issues so that is why he didn't see much action during practice.  I just hope he is feeling close to 100% for todays game as this is probably his last shot.  Doesn't look good for him right now.  The only way that I see him going to the next preseason game is if he has an outstanding game and the other receivers just blow it.

The problem is that Bryant wasn't put on the PUATP list,  which means he still occupies a roster spot.    Had they put him there, they could have saved a preseason roster spot, seen what their new guys offered, and put him on the regular season PUATP list until Week 6 if he wasn't back yet, without harming their roster numbers.

This stinks.  I can't believe that he could have all that natural talent and lead the Skag Wires in receiving is final season there, while only playing in 12 of the 16 games and for all of this to now have happened.

It seems like once he did the deed in Fville, he's had either bad luck or no luck.  With the ultimate locker room cyanide coming to the Bungals, it created a domino effect, and with MJ's ankle injury, well.............I wouldn't be surprised if this is it for MJ.

maybe the titans will offer him a shot again? he had the choice between the two teams to start out, so maybe they still need a WR.

Matt is now on game film making a couple good grabs and nice yards after the catch. If the Bengals don't keep him, there will be more than one team trying to pick him up....he's a big possession receiver, they are not just everywhere.

Good luck to Matt. I believe he showed enough of himself to make it another week. That's all he can do right now is play from week to week. He can't have any down games.

From the gist of what punditry says (Sal Pal, etc), those bridges are burned.  I'm not sure who, but someone also interviewed Jeff Fischer as well,  and he wished Matt well wherever he ended up-- but implied heavily it would not be TN in the future.

true, but at least he looked good. you can only play the hand you're dealt. May still get cut, but maybe he can catch on somewhere. I still think he's a legit 3 or 4 WR there which should make the team, but if not, I'd think SOME team would need him.

I agree, and hope he makes the team or catches on somewhere else in the league, but it looks doubtful.

Matt is an enigma.  He's one of those players who coaches don't really like or get.  They prefer the less talented, bust his ass guy to the extremely talented "I don't have to look like I'm trying as hard" type.

Matt makes plays when he is on the field regardless of how he looks in practice.  Unfortunately that is not a concept that a lot of coaches are able or willing to grasp.

He has done plenty to screw up his own career, but I also think part of his problem is that coaches and personnel people still don't understand how a guy as big as he is can appear to be moving slowly yet still getting open, catching passes, and eating up yardage.

Everyone laughed at Matt before the combine when he said he thought he would probably run about a 4.4.  Then, even after he did it, the word was that he doesn't try hard, is slow off the line, etc.

There is NO WAY you can be "slow off the blocks" and still run a 4.37.  There is no way that you can "loaf" and run that fast.  It's an optical illusion.  But, real or not, it is a perception that has dogged Matt throughout his NFL career.

he's probably going to have to go somewhere that's desperate to get over that and hope he puts up really good numbers, enough to catch on with someone better maybe next year.

There is a point where people have to start accepting that maybe there's a "there" there that you aren't seeing.  Too many on here have tried to somehow excuse away his lack of prospects because of a form of collusion among coaches.

that's definitely the elephant in the room. still holding out hope its just a part of my imagination until he gets cut for good though. Still seems like he could be a solid 2-3 receiver.

You're completely right, but many people around here have turned on him.  Now they'd rather him fail and then make fun of him when he does.  I don't really get it.  He produces everytime he gets the chance.  Problem is; coaches won't give him a chance because of this perception.
