Quote from: bennyl08 on Yesterday at 12:52:22 pmThe state would probably be tripping over themselves to get that to happen. The schools profit a lot off of the free labor and we can see how much they are fighting that.

I'm not opposed to that solution, but I think making them university employees makes sense too, because then they can take that salary and employee discount and get an education plus a salary, being better off than just the education they were getting.

Businesses can negotiate for discounts and what not for employees, but it's typically not the same.

Really on state employees? Arkansas has to have a balanced budget by law. Say cuts have to made across the board, include higher education. You lay off staff and not athletes, how is that going to look? Insurance and benefits for life from the state? Sorry no. Taxpayers should not have that burden (and don't start with the television money, because that isn't going to pay those benefits for life).

Also do the athletes want to state employees subject to FOIA disclosures? There are cans of worms being opened that most are not thinking about.

All I can if NIL is not enough then sorry. They are receiving a lot, more than their classmates whom a majority will graduate with a burden of paying off loans that will set them back years. Sure some will become professional athletes, but the others will graduate with the help of free tutors, free room and board, free meals, celebrity status etc., all the way a lot their classmates struggle to get by.

Look the college model is almost done. It can't sustain this. I tire of all this television revenue talk, because what that pays for is sports that don't generate revenue. Coaches make big bucks, sure, and they and their agents are to blame too. Athletes see the coaches getting paid and want their slice too, but in the end it is all self-defeating.

And just think all of this started because of a video game. The irony of that.

I posted earlier in another thread that I didn't think they would do good in SEC play. I was wrong. Their pitching was much better than I thought. However, their hitting is really subpar. One thing I noticed in SEC games is that there's a fine line between winning and losing. I see teams lose that look better than the winning team. Arkansas finished in the top four, but I'm not sure they are that high in regards to actual talent. This is just me thinking out loud.

I am concerned about Tygart.  Might see Tygart in the pen and Wood be the starter

I am not surprised we lost a game in the series was just hoping it would be the last game
