QuoteOle Miss quarterback Shea Patterson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an injury during the first-half of the Rebels' 40-24 loss to LSU on Saturday.

Patterson tore the Posterior Cruciate Ligament in his right knee late in the first half of Saturday night's game. Head coach Matt Luke and Patterson's father, Sean Patterson Sr., both confirmed the injury to the Ole Miss Spirit early Sunday morning.

Patterson underwent an MRI at Baptist Hospital in Oxford immediately following the game.

Patterson left the game and field during the last series of the first half after being examined inside the sideline medical tent. He returned to play all but the final minutes of the second half with a brace on his right knee.

The sophomore entered Saturday night's game as the SEC's leading passer. He completed 10-of-23 passes for 116 yards, no touchdowns and was intercepted three times versus LSU. He was visibly favoring his right knee during the second half.

Sources say Patterson is expected to spend the next four weeks in a cast. That period will be followed up by another MRI to see if surgery is necessary those same sources say.

Shea Patterson's Ole Miss career has been filled with plenty of adversity. Saturday was the latest blow.

QuoteOle Miss' season has been doused with even more adversity.

This time in the form of a torn PCL to the SEC's leading passer.

Quarterback Shea Patterson injured his right knee during the Rebels' 40-24 loss to LSU and underwent an MRI immediately after the game. That revealed a torn PCL which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

The initial diagnosis was a sprained knee. Patterson left the game after a second-quarter interception and checked into the medical tent. He went to the locker room later in the quarter and came back out during halftime warmups.

Patterson played the entire third quarter and a majority of the fourth with brace on his right knee. He didn't look like himself, walked with a considerable limp and was slow to get up after LSU's Arden Key sacked him in the fourth.

"We felt like he gave us the best chance to win," Matt Luke said. "We were told he wasn't going to further damage it so that's what we went with."

Patterson was one of the top passers in the country and ranked 12th nationally among FBS quarterbacks with 2,259 passing yards. He completed 63.8 percent of his passes to go with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Patterson's Ole Miss career hasn't gone exactly as planned. A little after his arrival in January 2016 as the No. 1 quarterback recruit in the country, the university received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA's enforcement staff.

He was supposed to redshirt his freshman season, but became Ole Miss' starting QB after Chad Kelly suffered a major knee injury.
