What do we need to accomplish next season?

Let's quantify things; What do we need to do next season for you to think we are headed in the right direction and do not need to make a leadership change?

8-8 conference record? NCAA tournament bid? ...etc...

The biggest thing that has to be done is to get Washington to come back
then he could actually have some help inside with Powell
then we have to find somebody for the spring signing period that is better than what we have on the floor right now.
then we have to sign very well in the early signing period in Nov of 09

We must go to the NCAA tournament or it is a wasted season!

Got to be above .500 in league play and get an NCAA bid, at the very least, IMHO

Next year?  About .500 in league play;  if they're under, it better have some overtime losses, or close ones lost on the road.    Be a bubble team, on the strength of that and a good OOC season.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I am sure we will win about 6 conference games, and everyone will be saying how great Pel is.

You doubt we will have 6 wins, or you doubt everyone will be praising Pel?

A couple of more wins at least.  I think off the court will be the deciding factor.  Discipline issues must be fixed and the 2010 recruiting class needs to 'look good on paper' as in recruits who were won over major programs and that fit our needs.

I need to qualify this with if this offseason including the late signing ends up positive.

Plus attendance at BWA..........If Pel has the depth to play his kind of ball, I think the fans will show up......One problem with Heath was there was no excitement in his style of play and the fans lost interest.

At this point I'd be pleased with keeping the team off the police blotters and on the hardwood.

Absolutely attendance numbers will be a big factor.  And if fans aren't seeing the discipline fixed and don't see much hope, that will surely fall.

My expectations might be the lowest,7-9 and an NIT Bid/Bubble NCAA Team.  A good improvement and hopefully competitive losses. These expectations will not change depending on whose on the court.  If we lose Washington and Henry it might make it that much harder.  I base this on it being Pel's 3rd year!  If he can't keep players on the team, can't get major recruits by this point, we shouldn't expect much better.

I am more concerned with recruiting than the record for next year. Solid recruiting dictates the direction your program is going. Even if there is another losing conference record, but there are solid recruits lined up in the 2010 class, then at least I can see we are moving in a positive direction. But if there is another losing conference record, and we are looking at recruits we beat out UAB and Nebraska for, then I can't see a reason to continue down this path to no where.

I'm not even as hard to please as some on here. 5-6 conference wins and competitive would be enough for me. This year we won every game we could have with the exception of the Tennessee game, it was by far the worst season in Arkansas basketball conference history, and we looked the part.

I'd be happy with an NIT bid.

Every game we could have?  Even "Sunshine" thought the @SC game was stolen from us by refs.  I'm pretty sure we could have won the Ole Miss game at home, give or take a call here & there.

Well, if Washington and Henry leave...I doubt that we win 4 games.

If they stay, I can see us possibly winning 6-7, but I don't think it will be enough to get the heat off Pel.

I thought the question was "What do we need to accomplish next season?" not "What do you think we'll accomplish?" Are this many people going to be content with a less than .500 conference record next year? Holy cow! How far have we sunk. I realize that if you set your expectations low enough you won't get disappointed but this is Arkansas folks - Top 20 program from 1984 - 2008 (period includes 4 losing seasons 2 by Nolan & 2 by Heath) in NCAA Tournament bids (#11), 20 win seasons (#13), 19th in total victories (542), 9th Overall in Final Four appearances (6), 30 NCAA bids Overall, 12th Overall in NCAA tournament victories.

elksnort

0.500 in conference games and at least an NIT bid, with CONSISTENT discipline and not as many off the court issues.

Note, it's not also 'What do we want to happen?'

It's not a matter of low expectations-- it's a matter of minimum expectations.

We need to have a winning conference record and win at least one game in the NCAA tourney.

Regardless, I'm surprised at anyone's expectations being at or below .500 given the program that Arkansas has been. Hey, that's it! We're a "has been". I've been in denial all this time. :puke:

I think people are just trying to be realistic, haha.
